Tips on makingworking remotework for you
A HELPFUL GUIDE FOR BEING PRODUCTIVE, GETTING SH*T DONE AND STAYING CONNECTED TO COLLEAGUES WHILE WORKING FROM HOME
Delivering Digital Excellence from Proof to Point.
Create a DedicatedWork Space
Choose a quiet spot in your home with lots of natural light and ideally a door
(to limit unwanted interruptions).
Make this a comfortable space infused with your personality, but limit things
that may cause distractions.
Be Organized
Have everything you need for a productive work day within arms reach.
Talk to your company or manager about what supplies you can take from work, or if there’s a budget to allow employees to
purchase things for home.
• Extra monitor with a docking station
• Mouse, mouse pad and keyboard
• Web cam, if your computer doesn’t have one
• Noise cancelling headphones or a headset
• Ergonomic computer chair and an office desk (min 30” in height)
• Standing desk or adjustable computer stand
• Basic office supplies
• Desk lamp
• Whiteboard
Specific items to considerfor your home office:
Plan Your Day
Take time every morning to plan your work day. Be deliberate and make this sacred,
dedicated time on your calendar.
Now that you have more flexibility to take care of things around the house–like
laundry–be sure to tackle those things around work responsibilities.
Communicate,Communicate,Communicate!
Make sure you’re available via e- mail, phone, text, Slack, Skype or whatever
communication tool you and your company use. Perception vs. reality can get distorted for teams that are transitioning to
remote work.
Make sure you communicate openly, respectfully, clearly and above all
concisely. No need to bombard inboxes if you can get your point across in one email.
Communication Tips forManagers WhileWorking From Home:
Set-up 1:1Meetings
Set-up AllTeam Meetings
Virtual OpenOffice Hours
If you manage a team, make sure to set or keep existing 1:1 meetings with
each of your subordinates.
It’s important to have all-team meetings so
everyone has visibility to one another, and updates can be communicated all
at once.
Create “open office” hours on your calendar whereemployees can virtually pop-in and connect with
you on a video call.

Schedule FaceTime & Fun Time
Don’t be afraid to turn on your camera!Being remote can feel isolating when you’re
used to working in a large office. Foster connections with your colleagues, clients and
vendors by using video conferencing.
And video conferencing doesn’t have to be limited to work related items. Set a designatedtime for a virtual Happy Hour or Coffee Break. These dedicated “fun times” will bring teams
together and create positive company morale.
Go on Walks
If you have a dog, take Fido on a walk once or twice a day.
If you don’t have a dog, ask your partner/spouse to join you, take your kids, or put
on headphones and listen to your fav podcast around the ‘hood.
Getting some fresh air and vitamin D will do you wonders, and is a nice break from
being behind a desk all day.
Plan meals &keep healthy
snacks at home
This one might require a little extra evening and weekend time to
coordinate. If you live at home with a partner, spouse, kids or other family
members, get everyone involved on the grocery shopping and meal
prepping. This will be a healthy change for everyone at home!
Set Work Hours
It’s easy to have work bleed into home life (and viceversa) when you first start
working from home.
Set your work hours and communicate that with your team; daily if necessary.
Keep your calendar up to date with the times you’re available and the times
you’re away from your desk.
CreateBoundaries
Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean everyone in your
household wants to talk about your work all the time!
Limit work conversations and be present for your family outside work
hours. Be extra sensitive about sharing information “outside the office.”
The information shared within
this deck is meant to provide
advice from our team. Whatever
you do, make sure you are in
compliance with your company’s
policies. At Proofpoint, we practice
transparency, empathy and doing
the right thing for all involved, at
all times. We think those are solid
business practices whether working
remotely or in an office. Good luck!
Thanks andGood Luck!
