Dear Ladies,I hope everyone had a good holiday season. I enjoyed seeing everyone at the January Meet-ing along with the excellent program provided. Good Customer Service not only affects our businesses but a lot of those principals also can be applied to how we interact in our personal lives as well.It was actually a situation with bad customer service that taught me a trick that I have used over the years. LOOK THE PART ***** ACT THE PARTMany years ago I went to the mall to the make-up counter after work and was treated very well and given a lot of free items with my purchases. A few months later, I went back to replenish my items and was treated quite poorly and indifferently and when paying no extra items were given to me. What was the difference? My appearance. My first visit I was in my business attire and the second visit I was in my weekend errand attire (sneakers, jeans, etc). Even though, I agree this was incorrect behavior on the part of the store’s staff, it taught me that there is such a thing as power dressing. I was the same person with the same amount of money to spend on products but my appearance made the difference. When I am in a situation that I know will be a challenge, I am sure to look the part. In addition, I self-talk and decide how I will present myself confidently. Sometimes, I am very, very nervous and a little unsure in some situations but this self-talk and some acting skills get me through the first few moments. Look the part, Act the part, Be the part – it works for me and I am sharing this with anyone who it may help. Although, I have to admit Decision Women in Commerce and the Professions’ membership is that of very talented and confident women we all do find ourselves in awkward situations now and then. That is my share and I look forward to our February meeting and program.Fondly,
Kathy,Kathryn Krejci, President
