Online Survey

Thank you to our many parents who completed the online survey regarding the strengths of our

school and areas in which we could do better. I have read them all and, from the comments, our

parent community values the care and concern that is evident in our school culture. Parents

identified the approachability of staff as being a strength. Parents commented that we create a

safe and engaging learning environment and that we bring out the best in the whole child.

Teachers are viewed as passionate, dedicated and professional who individually know each

student and understand their interests. There was a strong sense of teamwork present amongst

the staff at our school.

There was a common thread in the responses to “What We Could Improve?”- communication.

Some of the issues raised will be rectified once we address the use of a third party platform

similar to COMPASS. We are currently trialling U Educate-Us which, at the moment, is meeting

our expectations. If all goes according to plan, we will have an announcement to make in term 4!

Taking on board your feedback in the online survey, the following measures have been taken:

1. A review of the use of plastic pockets for take home notices – all take home notices will be

placed in the plastic pockets in every grade across the school.

2. Continue our practice of writing student’s names on notices if a student is absent. The

note will then be provided to the student on their return to school.

3. In the school newsletter on the front page, anticipated forthcoming events will be detailed

as a reminder to all families. This list of events is also placed on the Events Quick View

page of the Website and the Up-dated app. These are a guide only, so you can view what

is coming up and to act as reminder so you can ensure your child/ren have given you

notices related to these events.

4. Any notices distributed to our students will be placed on our website in the Quick Link

Notices & Newsletters. – this excludes community notices eg Puffing Billy Fun Run. This

will be effective from Monday 3rd September 2018. Website address -

www.cockatoops.vic.edu.au

5. Clarification of the payment facilities currently in operation within the school are detailed

below.

Parent Electronic Payments

The following items provided they exceed $10.00 per child in value, will be entered onto CASES

21 as a Family Invoice - Camps, Excursions, Incursions, Swimming and Student Fees &

Charges.

These items can be paid in the following manner:

1. Via Qkr by Mastercard

2. Sending to school with your child a completed Eftpos Credit Payment form.

3. Via credit card payment over the phone – please be advised that we will ask for the

CCV number on the card that you are using.

4. Over the counter office EFTPOS payments from 8.30am to 4.30pm (unless otherwise

advised for special events).

In addition School Uniform, Out of School Hours Fees and Canteen Lunch Orders can also be

paid for using the Qkr by Mastercard App.

Page 3: Dates to Remember - Cockatoo...gowns and bridal veils from rolls of toilet paper. Following this was the wedding breakfast where yummy party food was shared. Today, Sarah is commencing

Cockatoo Primary School No 3535. Website – www.cockatoops.vic.edu.au

We have a $10.00 minimum for payments being processed via Electronic means in the office and

over the phone. Canteen and Out of School Hours Care transactions are exempt from this rule.

Any fundraising events conducted at the school will not be entered via a Family Invoice onto

CASES21 and you will therefore be unable to pay these via Qkr by Mastercard.

With no minimum amount, cash payments can be paid in the following manner:

1. Over the counter office payments from 8.30am to 4.30pm (unless otherwise advised for

special events).

2. Sending the money with the permission form to school with your child – please ensure

that all monies sent in this manner are in a sealed envelope/bag with your child’s name

and grade clearly marked on it.

NAPLAN Online

In 2019 all NAPLAN testing will be conducted online. To trial the capabilities of our IT system, we

have been instructed to run NAPLAN readiness tests with all grade 3 and 5 students. One grade

3 and one grade 5 test, of approximately 40-50 minutes duration, will be administered between

Monday 10th September until Wednesday 12th September 2018. If you have any queries please

do not hesitate to contact Ross Woolger (NAPLAN coordinator) or myself.

Breakfast Club

A huge shout out to our regular “breaky club mums” who willingly give of their time to fill some

hungry tummies with breakfast before school.

We have some mornings where breaky club is closed as we do not have any volunteers to man

the program. It is a truly wonderful way to start the day and it makes a huge difference to many

children, particularly those with a growling tummy.

We are desperate for help on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The program commences at

8.15 and finishes at 9. If you can help, please contact Lee Smith through the office and she will

be able to chat with you and ‘show you the ropes’.

Thank you in anticipation of your support!

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all school leaders will be involved in the Department’s

professional learning communities’ initiative. We will be working on-site on Monday and at 1330

in Ferntree Gully on Tuesday and Wednesday. On behalf of Cockatoo Primary School, Sarah

Abraham, Ross Woolger, Tim Stapleton, Sarah Wintle, Meredith Smith and myself feel very

privileged to have been nominated for this exceptional opportunity.

Miss Wintle

Today we farewelled “Miss Wintle” and, on Monday 8th October we will welcome Mrs Barnes to

our school.

Today she received an amazing send off in the JLC as she and the students created wedding

gowns and bridal veils from rolls of toilet paper. Following this was the wedding breakfast where

yummy party food was shared.

Today, Sarah is commencing long service leave as she prepares for her wedding on the 8th

September 2018. We are all very excited for Sarah and cannot wait to share her special day as

she walks down the aisle to meet the love of her life, Cameron.

Cockatoo Primary School is collaborating with Smiles Onsite to promote healthier, happier smiles at our school!

This incredible service is being offered for FREE under the federal government's Child Dental Benefits Schedule

(CDBS), and comes along with the chance to grab some amazing prizes.

All students will be given a consent form to bring home so that they can participate, and also so that they can go in

the draw to win a prize!

How does it work?

The Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CBDS) grants all eligible parents with $1000 worth of Medicare towards dental

per child, over a two-year period. Eligible parents should receive a confirmation letter; however if you are still

unsure, Smiles Onsite can check for you on completion of their consent form.

Can I make use of this service if I'm not eligible?

Of course! Smiles Onsite can do almost everything that your local dentist can do on board there state-of-the-art

mobile Clinic. If you would like them to see your child for a scale and clean, fillings, fissure seals etc., these services

can be offered with NO GAP payable.

This service is a great opportunity to get kids into the habit of good oral hygiene, and we hope you're as excited

about it as we are!

If you would like your child/children or yourself to participate in our service and have not received a Dental consent

form please click on the blue link below and complete the form. This form can be filled out on your computer,

smartphone or iPhone.

PFA Page * Cooking Program Every Wednesday

* Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser

This term we are cooking Apple Crumble at school, yummo… All students get a copy of the recipe we cook, you might like to consider getting a display book, or a folder to keep them in….. this program will run all year, so all students will collect quite a few recipes. If your child / children want to make these recipes at home, please support and encourage them. We have requested that all students ask your permission, before they start cooking their recipes at

home. Please remember they will need help preheating the oven, and placing the Apple Crumble in

the oven, and removing it from the oven when it is cooked .

We heard that lots of the students who cooked with us have been cooking at home with you. We hope your families are enjoying the students new cooking skills.

If you wish to contribute to the program, you can make a financial donation at the Office towards the ingredients.

The PFA Team volunteer their time to run this Cooking Program at Cockatoo Primary School. If you are interested and available to come in on any Wednesday to help with the Cooking Program, we would really appreciate your help. We would like to have one adult supervising each small group of

students. All recipes are provided, and a copy of each recipe will be sent home with students, so they can make their recipes again at home in the future. We would love you to come along and help teach the

students at Cockatoo Primary School to cook.

PFA are running a fantastic Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser

this term. Your family will be sent one box of Cadbury Chocolates to sell. A note will be sent home soon with further information about the Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser.
