“RCHS Independent study drafting student Add Siler demonstrates his modern design trebuchet to members of the RCPS Foundation Board at the high school …”

“… Great experience of teamwork … where my ideas actually can be put together …” Robert Fonner, Class of 2011

Drafting I students studied design and manufacturing tolerances in CAD, but to better understand the importance of tolerances, students work in teams to build domes while required to maintain efficient use of materials.

RCHS Drafting II Architecture Class, using construction documents and doing extensive facility site studies, created drawings and a site model of the RCHS stadium. They also studied wood framing, bill of materials and cost estimates.

RCHS Drafting II Mechanical Class uses knowledge of dimension standards and assembly drawings to research & design their own projects, create materials cost & purchase lists, create study models, adapt design and build the winning design to full scale.

Each student shall document, with:

• Hand drawings,

• Calipers, rules, dividers

• 2D CAD multi-view drawings

• 3D CAD renderings, … a given “3d Object”.

“Drawing the hub of the bike was a challenging, and intriguing task. … The complexity of the piece made it vey enjoyable to work with, and figure out how to draft it in 3D.”

Dylan Fitzgerald Class of 2011

Given varied, un-dimensioned & to scale plane designs, students scale drawings, create their own plans & build their planes for flight.
