My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!
When Norma McCorvey received her First Communion as an adult, the priest who gave her her First Communion said this: “Today, you have received the very same flesh of the Son of God, to which all humanity has been joined. That means, Norma, that today, in giving you His Body, Jesus has also given you back all the babies that were aborted because of what you did. He has reunited to you all the children who never got to play in the playgrounds. He has restored them to you, closing the distance between you and them. He has reconciled them to you and given you peace.” What strange and amazing words at a First Communion, right? Who is this Norma McCorvey? She is the “Jane Roe” of Roe v. Wade. This past February 18, Norma McCorvey died and entered eternity to receive her eternal reward from the Most Merciful, Sacred, and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus! She now gives thanks to God for His forgiving love for all eternity!
Norma’s case went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1973, when the majority of Supreme Court Justices legalized abortion throughout the entire United States. How ironic that in Norma’s case of pregnancy, she never had an abortion and made an adoption plan for her daughter! How did she get to be the “Jane Roe” then?! Her role as “Jane Roe” started when two activist lawyers from Texas, Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, were looking to overturn the Texas abortion statute in 1969. They saw an easy target in pregnant Norma McCorvey. She met them not because she understood what they were doing, but because she was hungry and the meeting was in a pizza parlor. She wasn’t looking to legalize abortion, but just to get help with her own pregnancy — help she thought they could give her. She confided in the pro-choice leaders that she thought abortion was wrong. Yet, not realizing the full implications of what she was doing, Norma signed on the dotted line, making her the plaintiff in what became the Roe v. Wade case. Norma never appeared in court and, as mentioned already, never had an abortion!
One day in 1995, Norma decided to give her life to Jesus — she accepted the gift of faith, was baptized, and became 100% pro-life. Seeking to reverse the holocaust she helped unleash, Norma founded Roe No More Ministry in 1997 with the mission of exposing the lie that is Roe v. Wade. But her journey was just beginning. After she was baptized in a Protestant denomination, she also met Fr. Frank Pavone and Priests for Life. Fr. Frank commented when he first met her: “So you are the Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade.” And Norma responded, “No, Father, I was the Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade, but now I am a new creation in Christ. I am Roe no more!” She began attending Masses, asked for her home to be blessed by Fr. Frank, and asked various questions about the Mass and the Catholic Faith. In 1998, she received her First Communion!
During the above-quoted remarks at her First Communion Mass, Norma commented, “I was sitting there crying. I knew I had been forgiven — and to think I was reunited with those children… it was sorrow and joy at the same time. It was like having my own children come back to me all at one time. It was like seeing all their faces, even though I’ve never known them.” Norma dedicated the rest of her days on earth towards evangelizing and reversing what she was a part of over four decades ago. Although she would have liked to have seen Roe reversed in her lifetime, I join Fr. Frank in having no doubt that her prayers and example will bring about the reversal of Roe v. Wade in ours.
O Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us — O Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us! In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

Totus Tuus will be here at St. Andrew the Apostle June 18-23, 2017! The Totus Tuus parish summer catechetical youth program is a week-long “parish mission” for Catholic
youth entering grades 1st through 12th. It is dedicated to the proclamation of the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, apologetics, Christian witness, the sacraments, Marian devotion, and Eucharistic worship. Totus Tuus aims to assist parents and parishes in the evangelizing and catechizing of their youth by supplementing the work they are already doing. The methodology, structure, content, and enthusiasm of Totus Tuus is concerned not only with teaching the faith, but also igniting the hearts of the team members and young people. The result has been the formation of youth and young adults who continue to dedicate themselves to the Church’s mission
of evangelization.

Contact Governor Bruce Rauner to VETO HB 1785
Springfield lawmakers recently passed HB 1785, a highly controversial proposal that would make it significantly easier for gender-dysphoric persons to obtain falsified birth certificates by changing the sex on their birth certificate, which is both a legal and historical document. In turn, this will have consequences with regard to the relentless cultural assault on physical privacy through the sexual integration of previously sex-segregated spaces like restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, shelters, semi-private hospital rooms, nursing home rooms, and prisons. Take ACTION:
Please contact Governor Bruce Rauner to encourage him to veto HB 1785 and uphold birth certificates as the historical legal documents they were intended to be. Call his office at (217) 782-0244 and/or (312) 814-2121.
The state of Illinois has no duty or right to make it easier for men and women who wish they were the opposite sex to falsify their birth certificates, nor should Illinois’ public policy affirm deceit. 708-781-9328 For more information and updates, please visit illinoisfamily.org.

mí, y cuyo trabajo hasta ahora no he apreciado.

Fatima Plenary Indulgence
Pope Francis has granted a special Fatima centenary plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, from November 27, 2016 to November 26, 2017, for those who go on pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Fatima, or visit an image of Our Lady of Fatima that is being publicly venerated on the 13th of each month from May to October 2017. Those who cannot travel can fulfill the conditions in front of a small image of Our Lady of Fatima. To obtain the plenary indulgence, the faithful, truly penitent and animated with charity, must ritually fulfill the following conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father. The important thing during this Fatima centennial year is to realize that we are all engaged in a huge spiritual battle, but it is battle that has in many respects already been won – we just have to keep fighting and eventually victory will come!

Grzech przeszkadza. Ty pragniesz zamieszkać w czystych sercach wolnych od zła. Pomóż walczyć z grzechem, Ty w nas zwycieżaj, bo sił ubywa – tych ludzkich.
Jezu, pomóż, bym zawsze miał czyste serce, aby Cię przyjąć, abym był mocny Tobą, by zwyciężać zło. -Św. Jan Paweł II

MYTHS AND TRUTHS The following are myths about divorce, annulment, and remarriage in the Catholic Church. (Please note the word annulment is commonly used jargon, but the proper church term is declaration of nullity.)
MYTH #6
Children of parents who received a declaration of nullity are considered illegitimate.
TRUTH
The parents who are now divorced or whose marriage is civilly annulled once obtained a civil license and had a legal marriage. Any children of that legal marriage are
legitimate offsprings. A civil divorce, a civil annulment, and a Church annulment do not change the legitimacy of the children. Also the parents’ respondibility toward the children remains the same as before the civil divorce and
annulment. The annulment process is concerned only with the children or arrangements involving the children
such as custody or support..

Mass of Saint Ann
Since Easter, we have been singing the Mass parts from the Mass of St. Ann by Ed Bolduc. This is a more contemporary Mass, but very easy to learn. The congregation has done an outstanding job! The Glory to God does not repeat the Refrain after every verse, but continues to drive forward until the end where the Refrain is again sung in Glory! After the Holy, Holy, Holy we proclaim the mystery of faith: “When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again, until you come again.” The next Liturgical season change doesn’t come until Advent, when the Mass parts will change once again. But for now, during this Ordinary Time, let’s sing together this “not so ordinary” Mass setting.

Look upon our brothers and sisters who are ill, in the midst of illness and pain, may they be united with Christ, who heals both body and soul; may they know the consolation promised to those who suffer and be fully restored to wellness and wholeness. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
GRANT ETERNAL REST, LIGHT AND PEACE TO ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 x301 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or
Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s — it doesn’t hurt to say it a few times, either! Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, (815) 886-4165 ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!
A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION CATECHUMENATE
The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT MARRIAGE
Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
ORDERS Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.
ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.
I would like to have my house blessed. Please contact me to make arrangements.
