Special Friends Day is celebrated on the
last Thursday of the Great Kern County
Fair. Every year, BARC Clients attend the
Fair and are able to partake in the many
wonderful festivities such as Tadpole the
Clown, Russell Brothers Circus, Fables of
the West and All Alaskan Racing Pigs! “I
liked walking around and looking at the
chickens!” said Client Tracey Mendoza, “I
also liked the funny circus!”
The Clients were also able to visit the
newly remodeled BARC Food Booth and
sink their teeth into a tasty Hamburger
and wash it down with a nice refreshing
beverage. “I loved the hamburger,”
exclaimed Client Ruth Marquez. “I can’t
wait to go to the fair again next year!”

Sunday marked the return of the GET Bus
stop in front of BARC! The stop was
removed in 2012 when GET redesigned
their bus routes. The removal of the stop
forced Clients to walk at least 1/4 of a
mile, sometimes in inclement weather, to
catch the bus home! Thanks to the tireless
advocacy of BARC and the willingness of
the GET board to re-examine the remov-
al, the stop is now back! The new route
83 goes from BARC to Half-moon Drive.
The bus has a stop at the Valley Plaza
allowing individuals to transfer to a bus
that will take them closer to their home.
“I love it,” said Client Rhonda Redd in
response to the return of the BARC stop.
“I don’t have to walk way down to the
corner anymore.”
