Client CORNER 2014 THE September NEW FACES at BARC TERRY (MOVE) The GET Bus strike that took place be- tween July 15 and August 19, 2014 left many BARC clients without transporta- tion to and from work. Unsatisfied with the idea that Clients might miss work because of the lack of transportation, the BARC Client Coordination and Supported Employment Teams stepped up to the plate! During the GET Bus strike, the two departments transported 38 Clients either to or from work! A big Thank You to the two teams that helped ensure our Clients didn’t miss work because of the strike! Stepping Up to the Plate! DEJUAN (Packaging) MARVIN (Packaging) JOSHUA (Access Now) DONNA (Supported Employment) Find Your Way to the FAIR!! The Life Skills Classes taught by the Bakersfield Adult School are back and taught by new-to-BARC teacher Valerie Purcell. “I like Ms. Valerie,” said Client Erika Marquet, “she’s very nice and I’m learn- ing a lot from her. Right now we’re learn- ing how to introduce ourselves and about the value of money.” The classes, part of the 44 year joint partnership between the Bakersfield Adult School and BARC, are taught Monday through Friday in the Industrial Training Facility. Each Client attends the classes once a week and is taught a variety of life skills such as budgeting, interviewing, and hygiene. Life Skills Classes Are Back!! GREAT KERN COUNTY FAIR September 17-28, 2014 Dust off your cowboy boots and head on over to the Great Kern County Fair from September 17-28, 2014. Make sure to visit the BARC Food Booth during your visit and pick up a BARC Burger Special or the new Pulled Pork Sandwich! Special Friends Day will be on September 25, 2014 from 9:00 AM until Noon!

The BARC Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm Trip took place from September 6-7, 2014. Over 45 Clients went to Disneyland on Saturday and Knott’s Berry Farm on Sunday! A fun time was had by all! Special Thanks to chaperones Carolyn Tucker, Connie Munoz, Dorothy Hill, Genevieve Carter, Maria Roque, Patricia Hale & Tami DeLeon for helping make

the trip a success!

Everyone who attended this year’s Dreyer’s Zero

Waste Celebration at BARC had a great time.

Approximately 400 people attended this year’s

event enjoying plenty of Mountain Mike’s Pizza

and Chocolate and Vanilla Drumsticks from

Dreyer’s Ice Cream. Jesus Bello and Silvia Madrid

received awards from Dreyer’s Ice Cream for

work excellence. Packaging Clients and Staff

have helped sort cardboard for Nestle Dreyer’s

since the partnership’s inception four years ago.

Thanks to Nestle Dreyer’s, Boxsmart and Com-

plete Recycling for the work opportunities!
