Initiated in 2006 after Mycoskie visited Argentina on vacation

Met an American woman who was part of a volunteer organization which provided shoes for children in need

Spent several days traveling from village to village with the group

Mycoskie noticed that many of the children were running around the streets barefooted

He learnt that the lack of shoes was a problem that had a serious impact upon the youth- threatening the ability of the children to go to school and preventing infection

This thus inspired the founding of his company, TOMS shoes

In a randomized control trial conducted in El Salvador, 95% of the kids in El Salvador had a favorable impression of the shoes

77% of the children wore them at least 3 days per week, and the most common response by children was wearing them every day.

Age- due to his young age, some people found it hard to take Mycoskie seriously and it was also hard for him to get loans from the bank.

Inception of the company- they had no experience in making shoes and they had to learn production, quality control, inventory and all the other business parts of being a shoe and fashion company very quickly.

Challenges faced
