Introduction

In 2000, Gates and his wife combined three family foundations to create the charitable "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation," which was identified by the Funds for NGOs company in 2013 as the world's wealthiest charitable foundation, with assets reportedly valued at more than US$34.6 billion.

The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty in the world.

Introduction

Our Global Health Division aims to harness advances in science and technology to save lives in developing countries. They invest heavily on vaccines to prevent infectious diseases.

History

As of 2007, Bill and Melinda Gates were the second-most generous philanthropists in America, having given over US$28 billion to charity, the couple plan to eventually donate 95 percent of their wealth to charity.

To maintain its status as a charitable foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donate funds equal to at least 5 percent of its assets each year.

Impact We identify challenges that can be tackled on a global level. Examples of

countries, such as South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and Oceania.

Within a year of the vaccine deliveries, it led to a dramatic drop in meningitis in Africa.

Helping farming families increase production in a sustainable way, and sell more crops, is the most effective way to reduce hunger and poverty over the long term in Asia.

Production of vaccines to prevent prevent devastating infections and illnesses, drugs help manage and treat disease, diagnostic tools and medical devices to manage illness and thereby improve people’s overall health.
