synoPsisIselsa and Catty chose along with 150 other families, to be part of a social experiment that would allow them to settle in a middle class neighborhood in Valparaiso. As community leaders and friends they have worked together in the project and to achieve insertion into a neighborhood that rejects them, because they are considered potential delinquents. For over 6 years the documentary observes the struggle to obtain their homes, the integration to the neighborhood and the challenge to overcome their deep inherited disagreements through this process. It’s a struggle to reach their dreams of a neighborhood that promises them a unique opportunity to improve their lives.
Iselsa y Catty eligieron, junto a 150 familias, ser parte de un experimento social que les permitiría insertarse en un barrio de clase media en Valparaíso. Como dirigentes y amigas han trabajado juntas en el proyecto y para integrarse a un barrio que los rechazaba porque los considerarlos posibles delincuentes. El documental observa durante seis años la lucha para obtener sus casas, la integración al barrio y el reto de superar sus profundas diferencias heredadas de este largo proceso. Esta es una lucha por alcanzar el sueño de un barrio que les promete una oportunidad única de mejorar sus vidas.

synoPsisGustavo Proto, lost his father at the age of 16 when he took his own life. Afterward, he decided that he would also opt for suicide if he contracted a fatal disease. Now 58, and stricken with Alzheimer’s, he’s determined to follow through with his decision, but finds his will to live returning when he goes back to Chile to fulfill his long held dream of becoming a huaso (Chilean cowboy). His family is tormented at the thought of him dying. Carlo Guillermo Proto, Gustavo’s son, films his father’s unusual journey and the family conflicts that arise from respecting his choice. A film that tackles the complex ideas of individual freedom and family duty.
Ante la posibilidad de caer en un deterioro mental inmanejable, Gustavo decide que va a terminar con su vida antes de perder el control sobre la misma. Ya como una resolución, comparte este deseo con su familia esperando ser entendido, sin aceptar como posibilidad el disgusto de los otros. Hijo de una madre que padeció de Alzheimer y un padre suicida, sostiene que la existencia de la enfermedad justifica el hecho de buscar la muerte, pensada hasta como una forma de beneficiar a los suyos. “Quitarse la vida es una muerte natural”, afirma, mientras su mujer y sus hijos se entristecen, se desesperan, se indignan y hasta llegan a desear que todo termine. After working on an estate for some time, the job ended and now he is looking for employment. The landscape that surrounds them is quiet and cold, but not far away, down the river, a new, big and invasive project, brings noise and promises.
