SHARINGGOD’SBLESSINGSAPPEAL- This May, the Archdiocese of Newark welcomed nine new-ly ordained Transitional Deacons and twelve newly ordained Priests. Ordinations took place at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. While many dioceses in the United States have no candi-dates for the priesthood and clergy shortages are widespread, the Archdiocese of Newark is blessed with several men each year who are willing to answer God’s call to serve, insuring that the Church will be present for future generations. In fact, the Archdiocese of Newark has ordained more priests than any other diocese in the United States. A portion of the funds collected by the Annual Appeal sup-ports the seminary training and formation of new priests. Your support of the Annual Appeal continues to directly support the three seminaries maintained by the Archdiocese to educate and train future priests. Thank you for your continued support and generosity. ANEWCHERRYCOLOREDENVELOPE!-If you are using envelopes for your weekly offering to our parish, you can ind a new cherrycolored one within the last packet you have received in the mail. You will receive a total of six such envelopes throughout the year. They are not dated! You can use them anytime you like to make a donation towards our church MaintenanceandRepairs. Please use cherry colored envelopes for any future capital project, or any other particular purpose, towards the upkeep of our facilities & grounds. All donations received through the cherry colored envelopes are restricted because they are designated for a special reason, & therefore they are not assessed by the Archdiocese: all donations are totally used for Maintenance & Repairs! If you are sending offerings through our Online Giving Service you may send your Maintenance & Repairs donations electronically: the corre-spondent box may be found under the “Church Renovation & Upkeep” menu in the Online Donations setting page. KNIGHTSOFCOLUMBUS- All men 18 years old and older wishing to join the Assumption Council # 5819 Knights of Columbus are welcome to call 201-669-1304, or check us out on our website www.kofc5819.org to learn more about us. JOY’NTHEADULT CHOIR - The Adult Choir needs YOU. Please consider becoming a member . Rehears-als are Thursdays 7:30-9:00. We sing at the 10:00 AM. Mass every Sunday between September and June. All voice types are welcome, NO experience is necessary. Call Dr. Richard Sorce, Director, at 201-887-6175, for more information, or just come to the Church (rear en-trance) any Thursday evening. ONLINE GIVING CARDS - Many parishioners have signed up for our Online Giving program. Some of them have requested cards to be put into the Sunday’s collec-tion basket in place of their cash donation. Cards are now available at the Rectory office for anyone interested in using them. Thank you for your continuous support.

T his year the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on a Saturday, and is not a

holy day of obligation. Our yearly Triduum in honor of Our Lady will consequently be a little shorter than usual, ending with the 12:05 PM Mass and Novena on August 15th (the whole schedule of the Triduum can be found on the front cover of this bulletin or on our web site). The 5 PM Mass on the same day will then be the Vigil Mass for Sunday, August 16th, the day that will mark the ending of our Jubilee Year. This should not discourage us to celebrate the Assumption of Mary with the usual enthusiasm and participation. Devotion to the Virgin Mother of God – whom we honor as Mother of the Church as well – is in fact the privileged way to remain closer to the Lord and be guided by the Holy Spirit throughout our life. More so this year, as the celebration of the Assumption will be “blended” with the wrapping up of the Jubilee Year, thus giving us the occasion to express our thankfulness to Mary for the many graces she has bestowed on our parish during the past twelve months. From the Saints we may learn how to love Mary and make devotion to her part of our spiritual life. St. John Paul II used to say that authentic Marian devotion leads one closer to Christ. He recalled how he discovered this truth by reading St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary: “I was already con-vinced that Mary leads to Christ, but at that time I began to realize also that Christ leads us to his Mother…. One can even say that just as Christ on Calvary indicated his mother to the disciple John, so he points her out to anyone who strives to know and love him.” (The quote is from the book Saint John Paul the Great: His Five Loves, by Jason Evert. Copies of the book are still available at the Rectory office for all those who would like to make a special donation on the occasion of the Jubilee). St. John Paul II expressed his deep Marian piety also by the words of the following prayer he wrote, entitled Totus Tuus (All Yours I Am – the papal motto he took from the de Mont-fort’s work). May this be our prayer as well, as we celebrate Mary on the Solemnity of the Assumption:

Immaculate Conception, Mary my Mother, / Live in me, Act in me, / Speak in me and through me, / Think your thoughts in my mind, / Love through my heart, / Give me your dispositions and feelings, / Teach, lead me and guide me to Jesus, / Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior, / Possess my soul, / Take over my entire personality and life, replace it with Yourself, / Incline me to con-stant adoration, / Pray in me and through me, / Let me live in you and keep me in this union always. /

Amen. Withmyblessing, Fr.Paolo

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I want to thank all of you who participated in making our first Carnival a huge success. I was overwhelmed with the support and help our Parish Community showed when they were needed most. We accomplished something never done at Assump-tion, proving that we are a strong and loving Parish. It is impossible to thank ALL of you individually, as there were so many of you donating time and talent. There are two people who stood out and helped in an area that many of us lacked experience in. Dave and Sue Rec-tor handled all of the marketing of the Carnival and it’s their resources and knowledge we leaned on to promote the Carnival throughout the local areas. Thank you Dave and Sue!! I would also like to thank ALL the departments in the Town of Emerson, from the Mayor and Town Council, the Police, DPW, Ambulance, Police reserves, and the Health and Building Departments, for all their support and help during the Carnival. Over-all the Carnival was a profitable and safe event. It brought us together as a community, bringing in people from the Parish, the Town and the surrounding towns. So again, thank you to ALL of you that worked, at-tended or advertised our Carnival, or for any other part you played in making Assumption’s first Carnival a suc-cess. God Bless you all, Brian Beahm, Jubilee Chairman

Check for more details on www.rcan.org/evangelization. IntroductiontoLiturgyoftheDay- With such a strange mix of emotions the Holy Spirit draws us together on this rare, holy and wonderful occasion! We can say that graduation is a paschal moment, a time of Passover that offers us insight inot the paschal mystery of the Lord. In his Passover Jesus bade his friends a fond farewell. His disciples were sent away from one another, sent out to give witness to all that their Lord taught them. On this day that blends joy and sorrow we turn to the Lord, who gave us life and intelligence and compassion, who one day will reunite us in paradise. August2,2015-18thSundayinOrdinaryTime“Each day the people are to go out andgather their daily portion; thus will I testthem, to see whether they follow myinstructionsornot.”(Exodus16:4) When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten. In the same way today, God calls us to be content with a fair portion and to be willing to share the rest. REMEMBER….It is through the generosity of our advertisers that we are able to place this bulletin into your hands without cost to the Parish. Why not get into the habit of looking through the ads and give these neighbors and merchants a chance to serve your needs? Tell them you read about them in the Assumption Parish Bulletin.
