We will all miss welcoming you to the traditional Christmas performances both at school and in the local parish Church of St Peter and St Paul this year - however, whilst COVID sends us ’Behind Closed Doors’ that does not mean the show cannot go on!

The performances listed here are being produced over the next couple of weeks and will be available to download from Monday 14 December. We will send you details of how to view the performances nearer the time.

Sit back, popcorn or mince pie in hand, drink prepared and enjoy this year’s school shows:

EYFS Year R: The Traditional Nativity

The children of Elmer and Gruffalo Classes will be acting out the traditional Christmas Story as Mary and Joseph make the trek to Bethlehem, where they have the most amazing present - a new, special baby boy!

They are joined by a host of visitors who come to celebrate with them. The show includes lots of songs to help narrate the story.

Year 1: The Christmas Alphabet

Year 1 classes Pixie and Elf will be performing together as they read and act out a poem, The Christmas Alphabet.

In addition to the poetry, they will be singing for you, some classic Christmas carols and songs.

Year 2: Year 2 Christmas Showcase

Year 2 will be showcasing all elements of performance for their Christmas Concert.

Both Gnome and Sprite Classes will be reciting especially selected poetry, singing festive songs and also performing through dance.

Something for everyone!

KS2 (Years 3-6) and special guests:

Candles by Candlelight

One of our most popular events of the Christmas period is the annual celebration at St Peter and St Paul Church. Whilst we cannot meet in this traditional venue this year, the children across KS2 have produced a brilliant substitute.

All of the classes from Year 3 to Year 6 have been busy practising to put together a video for all of the parents, carers and friends. They will perform for you readings, poems and songs.

They will be joined by our signing choir who will perform a Christmas song for everyone. And that is not all - the staff choir will also be on song with a festive number to entertain.

The show will be set to candlelight to replicate the normal show as close as possible. The perfect way to start your Christmastime.

Christmas Days at Slade

Friday 11 December

Christmas Jumper Day: Friday 11 December

Join the teachers and other adults in school, by leaving your normal Slade jumper at home and swap it with a fun, festive one instead.

If you have any old jumpers that do not fit anymore, or you would like to buy a new jumper for the occasion, see the PTA sale details on page 4 of this newsletter.

Christmas Dinner: Friday 11 December

Thankyou to all of the parents who completed the online survey or contacted us via email to book your child’s Christmas meal with Nourish.

The Christmas meal will be served by Clare and her team on Friday 11 December in accordance with your orders. The Christmas menu is the only hot food available on this day, so any child without a meal ordered via the online form or otherwise will need to come to school with a packed lunch from home.

EYFS and KS1 children receive this meal for free, so you do not need to do anything now. The dinner is £2.20 for all KS2 children, which should be paid via your ParentPay account in advance. For any questions about your payment, please contact Nourish via their regional operations manager, Teresa Adonis-Taylor via email at [email protected].

The school cannot accept cash for the meal, but Nourish do have options to pay at PayPoint stations across town if you do not have a card that can be used to pay online.

Christmas Parties and party clothes day:

Thursday 17 December

To make up for some of the events that have to be cancelled this year, such as the Christmas Sale, the children will be having Christmas parties in their class bubbles. We will provide the food, but please note this is not a substitute for lunch - Nourish will still be operating their usual menu and packed lunches should still be provided.

The children are invited to come to school dressed in any clothes they would like to enjoy their bubble party, they do not need to wear school uniform on Thursday 17 December. Please do not bring clothes to dress in to during the day.

Win & Enjoy with the PTA

This year, Christmas at Slade will be a bit different; unfortunately, we’re not able to run our traditional Christmas sale, but have lots of other exciting events planned which we hope you and your children will get involved in.

Get Ready for Christmas Jumper Day with Our Sale

Dig out your unwanted Christmas Jumpers; we’re collecting and selling preloved festive clothes ready for Christmas Day at Slade. The sale is taking place at

https://www.facebook.com/Christmas-Jumper-sale-for-Slade-Primary-School-PTA-101033885179556/

Children’s items will be £1 each, adult items £2 each, and to avoid having to handle cash, we’ll send a text to your phone (via Slade PTA/SumUp) and take payment online.

Christmas Raffle – draw date 11 December

Our raffle normally takes place at Carols By Candlelight, but this year we’re going online! There are some great prizes up for grabs including a Kindle, a photography session with Paul Barsby and several hampers for both adults and children.

If you would like to donate a bottle of bubbly, some lovely toiletries, a voucher or some festive food, we’ll be collecting in the Lower Castlefield car park on Thursday 3rd & Friday 4th of December after drop off (until 9.15am).

Tickets cost £1 each, and are available via Raffall until 11th December at 7pm when the draw is scheduled to take place:

Trek to Lapland

Did you know, it’s 2,683 miles from school to Lapland? And we’d like your children to walk, run or scoot just 6.5 miles and help us raise £2,683 to put towards lots of lovely things!

A sponsorship form is on the next page of this newsletter. And rather than collect cash donations, we are asking if you could donate via Just Giving:

https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sladeptatrektolapland

Christmas Trees from Stonepitts Farm

Martin and Jackie at Stonepitts Farm in Sevenoaks have kindly offered to donate £2 per tree sold to Slade parents (and staff) to the PTA; they have a wide choice of beautiful Norway Spruce or Nordman Fir trees, plus tree stands, mistletoe and holly wreaths.

You can find more information and directions at stonepitts.com – and don’t forget to show them this newsletter to ensure we receive the donation!
