From the Pastor’s Desk

This weekend I will be away from the parish. Along with three of our parishioners, I will be representing the Diocese of Columbus in a national gathering in Fort Worth, Texas, for the V Encuentro. The V Encuentro is an initiative spearheaded by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). It’s purpose is to study and reflect upon the Hispanic presence in the Church in the United States, as well as encourage its growth. The theme of the V Encuentro is “Missionary Discipleship,” which captures its purpose and aim. The Church desperately needs the lay faithful to embrace their role as missionaries. No matter what language we speak, it is now the time to act upon Jesus’ words: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” We who have responded to Christ’s invitation to be his disciples must work to promote the beauty, goodness, and truth of the Catholic faith. The V Encuentro is nation-wide conference, but the real fruit of this initiative will be seen on the local level. My hope is that everyone at Christ the King feel empowered by the Holy Spirit to share his or her faith and to invite others into a relationship with Jesus and his Church. On a different note, if you do not know Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, take some time this week to research this great saint from the twentieth century. I mention Saint Pio because his feast day is this Sunday, September 23. Perhaps you know him better as Padre Pio. He is most famous for the stigmata that he suffered during his priestly ministry. That is to say that he miraculously bore the wounds of Christ in his hands for fifty years. This was a supernatural testimony of this holy man’s conformity to Christ. The life of Jesus completely filled Padre Pio – his prayer, fasting, and devout service to the Church were animated by Christ. The unceasing flow of blood from his palms was a sign that Jesus’ work was being done in and through Padre Pio’s ministry. Again, I encourage you to learn more about St. Pio of Pietrelcina, and ask for his powerful intercession. May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

The Sisters’ Corner

The sisters would like to invite all families of the parish to participate in a new Bible Study course. The courses will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m., and Mondays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., starting on Monday, October 1. We will meet in the basement. All women from Christ the King are invited to a meeting on Thursday, September 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Instruction Room (lower church) to help plan for this year’s Aunt Hattie’s Luncheon and Raffle. This is the only fundraiser for the Women’s

Club and helps provide Christmas dinner for our Giving Tree recipients. Lots of help is needed to make this a successful event! Aunt Hattie’s will be held on Sunday, November 11. Desde el Escritorio del Párroco

Este fin de semana estaré fuera de la parroquia. Junto con tres de nuestros feligreses, representaré a la Diócesis de Columbus en una reunión nacional en Fort Worth, Texas, para el V Encuentro. El V Encuentro es una iniciativa encabezada por la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos (USCCB). Su propósito es estudiar y reflexionar sobre la presencia hispana en la Iglesia de los Estados Unidos, así como fomentar su crecimiento. El tema del V Encuentro es "Discípulos Misioneros", como propósito y objetivo. La Iglesia necesita desesperadamente que los fieles laicos acepten su papel de misioneros. No importa qué idioma hablemos, ahora es el momento de actuar sobre las palabras de Jesús: "Vayan pues, y hagan discípulos a todas las naciones". Los que hemos respondido a la invitación de Cristo de ser sus discípulos, debemos trabajar para promover la belleza, bondad y verdad de la fe católica. El V Encuentro es una conferencia nacional, pero el verdadero fruto de esta iniciativa se verá a nivel local. Espero que todos en Christ the King se sientan autorizados por el Espíritu Santo para compartir su fe e invitar a los demás a tener una relación con Jesús y su Iglesia. En una nota diferente, si no conocen a San Pío de Pietrelcina, tomen un tiempo esta semana para investigar sobre este gran santo del siglo XX. Milagrosamente padeció las heridas de Cristo en sus manos durante cincuenta años. Fue un testimonio sobrenatural de la conformidad de este hombre santo con Cristo. La vida de Jesús lo llenó completamente. Su oración, ayuno y servicio a la Iglesia fueron motivados por Cristo. El incesante flujo de sangre de sus palmas fue una señal de que Jesús actuaba en y por medio del ministerio del Padre Pío. The Youth Ministry Kick-Off is coming up on Sunday, September 30, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Christ the King. We will have free

food, games, and a raffle for prizes and gift cards and more! All students in grades 8 through 12 are invited to come and enjoy a night of faith, fun, and fellowship led by missionaries from Damascus Catholic Mission Campus. Youth ministry events are open to all teens. Feel free to bring a friend! We are also in need of volunteers to help with setup and cleanup each night. All Saints Academy Catholic School

The school is looking to hire a Technology Coordinator. This hourly position requires knowledge of PC's, Microsoft, online applications, and hardware technical support. The Technology Coordinator maintains our school website as well. We are looking for someone who would work around 25 hours a week. The school is also looking for an evening custodian who can work approximately 25 hours a week. Please call the office for details.

Join the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for the 2018 Columbus Friends of the Poor Walk on Saturday, September 29, at 10:00 a.m. This is St. Vincent’s largest fundraiser of the year and an

opportunity to walk a mile “in the shoes of the poor.” Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. It will be held at St. Francis de Sales High School, 4212 Karl Rd. To register, visit www.fopwalk.org. (This event is in English.) The Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign will be held at the Planned Parenthood surgical abortion facility at 3255 East Main Street, Columbus.
