Este año despedimos el verano sin lamentaciones, sabemos que marzo llega y es momento de volver a la rutina, pero esta vez será diferente, decidimos abrazar el otoño, salir a explorar sus impresionantes paisajes teñidos de rojo, con agradables temperaturas para realizar actividades outdoor, y lo mejor de todo, en temporada baja, es decir, con muy poca gente, lo que se agradece cuando lo que quieres es sentir el lugar y lograr bellas fotografías.

La verdad es que estaba esperando el otoño, para visitar una de las destacadas viñas nacio-nales y participar de un tour de vendimia, para partir a un lugar súper colmado de turistas en verano y disfrutarlo con la soledad que el paisaje se merece, me refiero a San Pedro de Atacama, que esta temporada se presenta como perfecta para quienes quieran recorrer la impresionante geografía de uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes de Chile.

Lo estaba esperando también para visitar Torres del Paine, Valparaíso y algunos parques nacionales seleccionados por sus panorámicas otoñales, lo estaba esperando porque pien-so además dejar algunos días en Santiago para salir a disfrutar de una interesante carte-lera cultural. Y si a tu otoño le falta emoción, no dejes de leer la “Aventura Deluxe” para atreverte a decir “ahí voy”, a volar en un planeador para disfrutar la ciudad desde lo alto.

This year we bid farewell to summer without remorse. We know that that March has arrived and it’s time to get back to the routine. Yet this time it is different. We decide to embrace fall, to get out and explore its impressive landscapes covered in red, its lovely temperatures perfect for outdoor activities. Best of all, it’s the low season. That means there are very few people, which is much appreciated when you really want to get a feel for the place and take beautiful pictures.

The truth is that I have been waiting for fall to visit one of the famous Chilean wineries and take part in a harvest tour, to set off for a place that is crawling with tourists in summer and enjoy it in the solitude that its landscape deserves. I am referring to San Pedro de Atacama. It is the perfect place this season for those who want to tour the breathtaking geography of one of Chile’s most renowned tourist destinations.

I was also waiting for fall to visit Torres del Paine, Valparaiso and some national parks chosen for their fall activities. I was waiting because I think I’ll leave a few days to go out in Santiago to enjoy a number of interesting cultural events. And if your fall season is lacking excitement, be sure to read “Deluxe Adventure” and be inspired to say “let’s go” to flying in a glider, enjoying the city from up above.

Hace tiempo que me viene rondando la idea de abandonar la cámara, y es que cada vez que me enfrento a un paisaje majestuoso, de esos que te dejan sin aliento, necesito verlo por un buen rato a ojos desnudos, sin un lente de por medio, cargar las imágenes al disco duro de mi memoria, así como son, porque la cámara capta sólo una parte, es como contar una gran historia resumida en cuatro líneas.

A la vez, un relato de viajes sin fotografías es un imposible, porque sin duda dicen más que las palabras, y es tal vez por esta razón que en esta oportunidad les aclaro, que las fotogra-fías que retratan esta “Escapada Deluxe” no son ni el diez por ciento de la realidad, por lo que si las encuentras bellas e impresionan-tes entonces tienes que hacer tus maletas y venir, porque no sabes lo que te pierdes al no estar aquí, a 4300 metros de altura, sintiendo el viento y la emoción de presenciar un es-pectáculo sobrecogedor de la naturaleza, de una geografía indescriptible que sólo puedes creer cuando la ves, no es de otro planeta, no es un sueño ni es el resultado de filtros fotográficos, es el altiplano, es San Pedro de Atacama y sus alrededores.

For a while now I have been thinking about leaving the camera behind. It is just that every time I find myself in front of a majestic landsca-pe, one of those that takes your breath away, I need to gaze at it for a good while with the naked eye, without the use of a lens, to upload the ima-ges to my memory’s hard drive, just as they are, because the camera only captures a part. It’s like trying to fit a long story in a 4-line summary.

At the same time, a travel story without pictures is impossible, because without a doubt they ex-press more than words can. For this very reason I warn you that on this opportunity the photogra-phs included in this “Deluxe Escape” do not even do it 10% justice. So if you think they are beautiful and impressive now then you have to pack your bags and come because you don’t know what you are missing by not being here! At 4300 me-ters (14,108 feet) above sea level, feeling the wind and the excitement of experiencing an amazing natural scene, of indescribable geography is something you just have to see to believe . No, it’s not on another planet. No, it’s not a dream. Nor is it made with photographic filters. It is the highland desert known as the altiplano. It is San Pedro de Atacama and its surroundings.

San Pedro es uno de los tres destinos turís-ticos más visitados en Chile, junto con Isla de Pascua y Torres del Paine, y goza de fama mundial, lo que ha generado que la oferta tu-rística sea amplia, con hoteles de lujo, desta-cados restaurantes y una larga lista de atrac-tivos para conocer.

Y entre tanta oferta, la elección del hotel re-sulta fundamental, para disfrutar al máximo y vivir una experiencia inolvidable. en el Tierra Atacama Hotel Boutique & Spa se cumplen por una simple razón, desde que en-tras hasta que te despides del hotel, te sientes bien, feliz y agradecido de cuanto viste y sen-tiste, porque de eso se trata y aquí les dejo una narración de lo que vimos y sentimos en este mágico paraje, en el Desierto de Atacama.

Nuestra aventura comienza al atardecer, con una excursión al Salar de Atacama para ver flamencos en el paisaje sobrecogedor de La-guna Chaxa, caminamos sobre un suelo de sal mientras decenas de flamencos decoran este lugar, un imperdible en la ruta del de-sierto y perfecto para el primer día de estadía ya que se encuentra cercano al hotel y a la misma altura. De vuelta en la van, hacemos una parada para ver como se esconde el sol por detrás del cerro Quimal mientras disfru-tamos de un aperitivo.

La mañana siguiente tenemos programado partir hacia el Valle de la Luna, haciendo una primera parada en el Mirador de Kari un lu-gar al que cada anochecer llegan cientos de turistas, razón por la cual vamos en la maña-na, así, tenemos el lugar sólo para nosotros.

Our adventure begins at sunset, with an excur-sion to the Atacama Salt Flat to see flamingos in the spectacular landscape of the Chaxa La-goon. We walk over a salt-covered ground whe-re dozens of flamingos dot the landscape. It is a must-see along the desert route and a perfect stop for our first day because it is close to the hotel and at the same elevation. Back at the van, we make a stop to watch the sun go down behind the Quimal Hill while we enjoy a cocktail.

The next morning we have a trip planned to Valle de la Luna or “Valley of the Moon”. We make our first stop at the Mirador de Kari, a place where hundreds of tourists gather each evening. For this reason, we go in the morning so that we have the place all to ourselves. And of course, we cannot miss taking the classic picture at Piedra del Coyote or “Coyote Rock”. Those who

Y por supuesto no podemos dejar de tomar-nos la clásica fotografía en la Piedra del Co-yote, no apta para quienes sufren de vértigo. Continuamos la ruta en medio de un paisaje lunar en la tierra, en medio de una geografía que parece irreal y que hace de este sitio otro imperdible para todos quienes visiten San Pe-dro de Atacama.

Llegamos hasta la base de la Duna Mayor, nos bajamos de la van y a pie comenzamos el as-censo hasta la cima para contemplar una ma-ravillosa vista del valle y del Anfiteatro, antes de continuar hacia las Tres Marías, una for-mación de granito, piedras de cuarzo, gemas y arcilla tallados por el viento y erosionados por la sal del desierto.

De vuelta al hotel, llegamos a almorzar y alcan-zamos a disfrutar del Uma Spa, un lugar para relajarse y sentir el bienestar del agua en una de sus piscinas, climatizada al interior y otra al aire libre con una vista majestuosa al volcán Li-cancabur que comparte terraza con un jacuzzi, todo decorado con unos particulares sillones de mimbre que dan un sello distintivo al diseño exterior del hotel y que además son tan cómo-dos que resultan perfectos para leer un libro o disfrutar de un jugo de frutas o un cóctel.

suffer from vertigo, beware! We continue along the route surrounded by what seems to be a lu-narscape here on Earth, in the middle of surreal geography, making this site another must-see for those visiting San Pedro de Atacama.

We arrive at the foot of Duna Mayor or “Great Dune”. We get out of the van and begin the as-cent on foot up to the summit in order to see a fantastic view of the valley and of the Ampithea-ter. Before continuing on to the Tres Marías, a granite formation of quartz rock, gems and clay carved by the wind and eroded by the desert salt.

Back at the hotel, we arrive just in time for lunch and then a chance to enjoy the Uma Spa. It’s a place to relax and feel the wellness provided by the water in one of its pools. The one inside is heated and the one outside has a spectacular view of the majestic Licancabur volcano. The same outside terrace that houses the pool also has a jacuzzi and is decorated with really neat wicker lounge chairs that give a unique look to the hotel’s exterior design. Not only that, they are so comfortable that they are perfect for re-ading a book or enjoying a fruit juice or cocktail.

Uma Spa also has a long list of massages and therapies that use natural desert elements like

A las tres y media partimos nuevamente, esta vez para internarnos en la Cordillera de Do-meyko y recorrer el Valle del Arcoíris, ubica-do a 3500 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Sin duda, una de nuestras excursiones favoritas, porque une la majestuosidad de un paisaje único con pictogramas de culturas precolom-binas, que evidencian el paso de caravanas de llamas y la necesidad del hombre por dejar registro de representaciones de fauna típica de la zona, de chamanes y de algunos anima-les que descubrieron en algunos de sus viajes al otro lado de la cordillera. Seguimos cami-nando en medio de este maravilloso paisaje,

At 3:30pm we get back on the road, this time to drive through the Cordillera Domeyko mou-ntain range and tour the Valle del Arcoíris or “Rainbow Valley”. Located 3500 meters (11,482 feet) above sea level, it is, undoubtedly, one of our favorite excursions because it encom-passes both a unique majestic landscape and pictograms of Pre-Colombian cultures. These pictograms are evidence of the passing of lla-ma caravans and man’s need to leave a record of representation of the area’s typical fauna, of shamans, and of some animals found in their journeys to the other side of the mountains. We continue walking in the middle of this incredible landscape featuring different colored hills that give the place its name. The reason for these colors lies in the minerals found in the earth.

La razón de sus colores está en los minerales que com-ponen su geografía, así podemos observar laderas rojizas, beiges, verdes, terracotas, blancas y amarillas. Y mientras avanzamos, fascinados con el entorno, burros salvajes se acercan a nosotros y rebuznan fuertemente, intentando alejarnos de sus crías y de su há-bitat, mientras, nosotros seguimos recorrien-do, con respeto por el entorno y los animales que han hecho de este cautivador paraje, su hogar.

Una noche con ausencia de nubes nos invita a descubrir el universo, aquí, en San Pedro de Atacama, lugar que se impone por poseer el cielo más claro del mundo, sin contami-nación lumínica, perfecto para ver estrellas, planetas, constelaciones y nebulosas, por-que no se puede llegar hasta aquí sin apun-tarse en un tour astronómico, y una de las grandes sorpresas del Tierra Atacama es que cada noche (en días despejados y sin luna llena) tiene programado un tour en el Obser-vatorio Ahlarkapín, a escasos 5 minutos del hotel para vivir una experiencia única, obser-vando los astros a cielo abierto y a través de sus telescopios, mientras aprendemos de astronomía y cosmovisión andina.

Here you will see hillsides of all different co-lors; reds, beiges, greens, browns, whites and yellows. As we walk along, fascinated by the scenic beauty around us, wild burros approach us and bray loudly. They do it in effort to keep us away from their foals and their habitat. We continue touring this place with respect for the environment and the animals that have made this captivating scene their home.

A cloudless night invites us to discover the universe. San Pedro de Atacama is known for having the world’s clearest skies. Free of light pollution, they are perfect for gazing at the stars, planets, constellations and nebulas. You can’t leave San Pedro without signing up for an astronomy tour. One of the biggest surprises at Tierra Atacama is that every night (on cloudless nights without a full moon) there is a tour at the Ahlarkapín Observatory. Located just 5 minutes from the hotel, you can enjoy a unique experien-ce, observing the stars under the open sky and via their telescopes, while learning about astro-nomy and Andean cosmovision.

Our third day starts at 9 am with a full day of activities. We are registered for an excursion to see several lakes known as the Lagunas Altiplánicas, at an altitude of over 4000 meters (13,123 feet), to see a string of salt flats called the

Nuestro tercer día comienza a las nueve de la mañana con un fullday, tenemos programado una excursión a las Lagunas Altiplánicas a una altitud de más de 4000 metros, para conocer el Salar de Aguas Calientes, Laguna Tuyajto y Piedras Rojas. El favorito indiscutido de nues-tro viaje, un lugar de impresionante belleza es-cénica, un paisaje sorprendente, donde la luz se refleja en el suelo blanco de sal en la Laguna de Tuyajto, y las impresionantes formaciones rocosas del sector de Piedras Rojas, seguro, formarán parte de las imágenes más bellas y conmovedoras que podrán ver en el transcurso de sus vidas. Creo que podría quedarme aquí por horas, en absoluto silencio, sintiendo el viento y el vacío de este espacio que pareciera que un artista pintó con acuarelas, tan perfec-to, tan remoto, tan particular y mágico.

Nuestros guía y chofer montan una mesa con exquisitas preparaciones para almorzar con una vista inmejorable. Una experiencia que devolverá la capacidad de asombro hasta a quien cree haberlo visto todo, a quien ya casi

By far the favorite of our trip, this is a place of im-pressive scenic beauty, a surprising landscape, where light reflects off the white salt soil in the Tuyajto Lagoon and the impressive rock forma-tions of the area known as Piedras Rojas. I’m sure that they will make up some of the most beautiful and moving images that you will see in your lifetime. I think I could stand here for hours, in absolute silence, feeling the wind and the emptiness of this space that seems as if an artist painted it in watercolors. It is so perfect, so remote, so unique and magical.

Our guide and chauffer set up a table with de-licious food for lunch with an unbeatable view. It is an experience that is capable of astonis-hing even someone who thinks they have seen it all, to that person who hardly gets excited about anything. This place will surely take your breath away.

We return to the hotel at 4:30pm to continue

Volvemos al hotel a las cuatro y media de la tarde para seguir disfrutando, de un Rica-Rica Sour en uno de los living exteriores con fogón y vista al volcán, para más tarde deleitarnos en el restaurant, con una cuidada gastronomía in-ternacional que resalta lo mejor de Chile, con ingredientes como Atún o Vidriola de Isla de Pa-cua, Albacora, carne de cordero, y por supuesto los mejor ingredientes locales cómo la Quínoa, la Rica-Rica y el Chañar, en compañía de desta-cados vinos chilenos.

Y no nos podemos despedir de San Pedro sin vi-sitar los Géiseres del Tatio, en una excursión que comienza a las cinco y media de la mañana, cuan-do dejamos el hotel para partir a conocer este im-portante campo geotermal, uno de los tres más impresionantes del mundo, con más de ochenta géiseres activos. Así, llegamos hasta los 4300 me-tros, a oscuras para presenciar un espectáculo de la naturaleza, donde columnas de vapor de hasta doce metros de altura emergen de aguas hir-vientes, caminamos por los senderos habilitados mientras nuestra guía nos entrega detalles del lu-gar, hasta llegar a una mesa montada con un re-confortante desayuno, que a esa hora y con el frío del lugar se agradece y disfruta enormemente.

enjoying, this time with a Rica-Rica Sour, in one of the outdoor seating areas with a fire-place and a view of the volcano. Later, we are delighted at the restaurant with well-prepared international cuisine that showcases the best of Chile with ingredients like tuna or vidriola fish from Easter Island, swordfish, lamb, and of course, the best local ingredients like qui-noa, rica-rica and chañar, accompanied by fabulous Chilean wine.

And we couldn’t leave San Pedro without visi-ting the El Tatio Geysers in an excursion that starts at 5:30 am, the time when we leave the hotel in route to see this large geothermal field. It is one of the three largest and has over 80 active geysers. We arrive at 4300 meters (14,108 feet) when it’s still dark outside to see a natural event where jets of steam reach up to 12 me-ters (39 feet) immerge from boiling water. We walk along marked public paths as our guide gives us more information on this place, until we arrive at a table with a wonderful breakfast made for us. Considering the time and the cool temperatures, this breakfast is more than ap-preciated and immensely enjoyed.

On the way back, we make a few stops to ob-serve the fauna like vicuñas, chinchillas, and birds like the red-gartered coot, flamingos,

De vuelta, hacemos algunas paradas para obser-var fauna como vicuñas, vizcachas y aves como la Tagua, flamencos, gaviotas andinas, entre otros. Cámara en mano, zapatillas cómodas y mu-chas ganas de subir y bajar escaleras, abor-dar antiguos ascensores y folclóricos trolle-buses, es lo que necesitan para internarse por los cerros de Valparaíso.

Hay quienes prefieren perderse solos, con un mapa, un listado de imperdibles como los que en este reportaje entregaremos y así, sin mirar el reloj empezar a descubrir sus rincones, res-taurantes, cafés y tiendas. Otra opción es tomar un tour, pero no el tradicional recorrido cultural si no uno de particular estilo y lenguaje, con el sello porteño, auténtico, informal y creativo.

Les damos dos alternativas diferentes, una diseñada para recorrer los cerros en compa-ñía de Wally (después de haberlo encontrado claramente), y el otro es para conocer Valpa-raíso desde sus graffitis.

Comenzamos por Tour4tips, un tour muy en-tretenido que se inicia en la Plaza Sotomayor, sin necesidad de reservar, la idea es llegar hasta ahí en alguno de los dos horarios (a las 10 am y a las 3 pm) y encontrar a Wally, perso-naje popular de la serie de libros ¿Donde está Wally?, por si no lo recuerdas, su característica principal es una polera a rayas blancas y rojas.

El tour es una caminata de 3 horas y su va-lor es la propina que cada uno quiera entre-gar luego de finalizar el recorrido. Así desde la Plaza Sotomayor comenzamos a caminar

Camera in hand, comfortable sneakers and a desire to climb up and down stairs, board old elevators and picturesque trolleybuses is what you will need to roam the hills of Val-paraiso.

There are those who prefer to roam on their own. With a map and a list of must see places like those found in this article, they set off. Without a sense of time, they begin to discover all of this city’s nooks and crannies, restau-rants, cafés and shops. Another option is to take a tour, not the traditional cultural circuit, but one with a particular style and language, a “porteño-style” tour that is authentic, ca-sual and creative.

We offer you two different options, one desig-ned to tour the hills in company of Wally (after having found him of course), and the other is to see Valparaiso via its graffiti.

We begin with Tour4tips, a very entertaining tour that starts at the square known as Plaza Anibal Pinto. No reservations necessary! The idea is to meet there at one of the two times offered (at 10am and 3pm) and find Wally, the popular character from the Where’s Wally? book series. In case you don’t remember, he is known for wearing a red and white striped shirt.

The tour is a 3-hour walk and the cost is the tip that each one wants to pay once it’s over.

Otra opción es la que ofrece Valpo Street Art Tours, quienes nos acercan a Valparaíso a través de sus graffitis callejeros.

Así, un guía experto en este tipo de arte ur-bano nos llevará a conocer más de 200 gra-ffitis en una ruta que puede ser caminando o en auto. Los tours pueden ser grupales o privados y hay opciones de diferente duración, incluso existe la posibilidad de tomar un tour con workshop para vivir la experiencia de pin-tar un graffiti o “Street Art” con pintura aero-sol y latex.

El “GraFREEti Tour” que dura alrededor de 2 horas y media caminando, es el más econó-mico y parte cada día a las 10:30 y a las 3:30 en la Plaza Aníbal Pinto, en caso de ser un tour privado o en auto el horario y lugar varía y pueden incluso recogerlos en su hotel pre-via reserva.

Another option is Valpo Street Art Tours, which show us Valparaiso by way of its street graffiti.

Here, a guide expert in this type of urban art will take us to see more than 200 graffiti paintings on a tour in which you can partici-pate on foot or by car. Tours can be in group or private and there are different options in terms of length. There is even an opportunity to take a tour featuring a hands-on graffiti or “Street Art” painting session with latex and spray paint.

The “GraFREEti Tour” that lasts around 2.5 hours on foot is the cheapest and starts everyday at 10:30am and at 3:30pm at Plaza Anibal Pinto. In the case of private tours or those in car, the time and place may vary. There’s even the option of being picked up at your hotel via prior reservation.

La mayoría de los restaurantes y cafés que nombraremos están en los cerros Concep-ción y Alegre o en el Cerro Bellavista, ya que pueden servir de descanso mientras pasean por las principales rutas turísticas.

Para continuar, con una vista inmejorable en el restaurant La Concepción, se-guido de otro con vista privilegiada pero de corte más informal con una carta donde predominan los sandwich es el Fauna, y para salir de tapas y copas está el Taulat, un bar-restaurant catalán que tienen que probar. En el cerro Bellavista, la recomendación es a probar el restaurant Espí-ritu Santo.

Y seguimos por los cafés, la terraza de sueño don-de es un imperdible disfrutar de la hora del té es la del Café Brighton a un costado del Paseo Atkin-son, y otra terraza protagónica en la escena gas-tronómica local es la del Café Turri con una ubi-cación privilegiada a los pies del Paseo Gervasoni.

Una vez satisfechos los apetitos foodies re-tomamos nuestra ruta, esta vez, vamos por cultura. Así llegamos a un imperdible, el bro-che de oro de todo recorrido por Valparaíso, me refiero a la casa museo de Pablo Neruda, nuestro poeta nobel, quién habitó esta ciudad, la amó y transformó en poesía. Su casa, a la que llamó “La Sebastiana” alberga una serie de objetos y fotografías que narran su historia y presentan la poesía de Neruda en este lugar que sirvió de inspiración y que buscó y vistió a su manera. “Siento el cansancio de Santiago, quiero hallar en Valparaíso una casa para vivir y escribir tranquilo. Tiene que poseer algunas condiciones. No puede estar ni muy arriba ni muy abajo. Debe ser solitaria, pero no en exceso. Vecinos ojalá invisibles. No deben verse ni escu-charse. Original, pero no incómoda. Muy alada, pero firme. Ni muy grande ni muy chica, lejos de todo. Pero con comercio cerca. Además, tiene que ser muy barata. ¿Crees que podré encon-trar una casa así en Valparaíso?” Carta de Ne-ruda a su amiga y poeta Sara Vial.

With foodies appetites satisfied, we return to our route. This time, let’s focus on culture. And here we arrive at a must see, the cherry on top of the entire tour through Valparaiso! I’m referring to the house museum of Pablo Neruda, Chile’s No-bel Prize winning poet. He enjoyed living in this city so much that he transformed it into poetry. His home, called “La Sebastiana”, served as his inspiration, one that he searched for and found, and visited at whim. It houses a number of ob-jects and photographs that tell his story and showcase his poetry. “Santiago has worn me out. I want to find a house in Valparaiso in which to live and write in peace. It has to have certain characteristics. It can be neither too high nor too low. It should be solitary, but not excessively so. Neighbors, hopefully out of sight. They shouldn’t be seen or heard. Original, but not uncomforta-ble. Many wings, but sturdy. Not too large or too small, located away from it all. But close to shops and services. In addition, it has to be very cheap. Do you think I will be able to find a house like that in Valparaiso?” Neruda wrote in a Letter to his friend, the poet Sara Vial.

We bid farewell to “La Sebastiana”, taking a few memorized verses with us, in order to carry on with our cultural route. This route will take us to Villa Victoria to learn more about Valparaiso’s history.

Esta vez es el turno del arte, por lo que nos trasladamos hasta el Palacio Baburizza, ubi-cado junto al Paseo Yugoslavo y que alberga una serie de obras de destacados artistas na-cionales y extranjeros. Muchas de estas obras retratan Valparaíso en diferentes épocas y bajo diferentes miradas.

Otro museo que no pueden dejar de visitar es la “Casa de Lukas” en el Paseo Gervasoni, donde se narra la historia de Valparaíso al es-tilo de este talentoso dibujante, Renzo Peche-nino, conocido como Lukas quien plasmó con humor diversos aspectos de la vida cotidiana y el acontecer local, nacional e internacional.

This house museum that will take you back in time to understand why Valparaiso was named a World Heritage site. It’s an unforgettable expe-rience where everyone dresses up like people at that time in order to start their visit here at the site of some of the most important events of the 19th century, like the arrival of the immigrants to Valparaiso, trade workshops and the produc-tion processes of yesteryear such as the printing press, bakery, and candle factory, among others. The experience draws to a close at the tearoom “Entre Teteras”, where you will enjoy Victorian-style teatime. Reservations are necessary.

This time, let’s focus on art. Therefore, we make our way to Palacio Baburizza. Located next to Pa-seo Yugoslavo, this large home houses a number of works by famous national and international artists. Many of these works portray Valparaiso in different eras and from different perspectives.

Another museum that you can’t miss is “Casa de Lukas” on Paseo Gervasoni. This house mu-seum narrates the story of Valparaiso through the eyes of talented cartoonist Renzo Pechenino. Known as “Lukas”, this famous artist portrayed the humorous side of diverse aspects of daily life as well as local, national, and international events.

Para aquellos que decidieron perderse por su cuenta, sin un guía ni tour, les recomendamos algunos paseos, miradores, rincones y pasa-jes que no deben dejar de visitar.

Los nombraré pero ustedes tienen que ubi-carlos en su mapa o llevarlos en su lista para descubrirlos en su ruta, así pueden organizar sus días a su manera, porque si tomaron esta alternativa es porque les gusta la libertad, y eso si que se respeta. Ahora, a perderse en Valparaíso!

Para comenzar es necesario subir, para eso les recomiendo el ascensor Reina Victoria que llega al Paseo Dimalow, el ascensor El Peral que llega al Paseo Yugoslavo en Cerro Alegre, justo frente al Palacio Baburizza y el tercer ascensor que conecta el Plan (sector bajo de Valparaíso) con los cerros Alegre y Concepción es el Ascensor Concepción que llega hasta el Paseo Gervasoni. Pueden elegir uno para su-bir y otro diferente para bajar y entre estos dos cerros la idea es caminar, descubriendo en el Cerro Concepción, el paseo mirador Atkinson que termina en el restaurant Brighton per-fecto para disfrutar de un café en una de las terrazas emblemáticas del puerto. For those who decide to go it alone, without guide or tour, we recommend a few promenades, lookout points, corners and alleys that you must see.

I will name them but you must find them on your map or add them to your list in order to discover them along the way. This way you can organize your days as you wish, because if you have de-cided on this option it is because you enjoy your freedom, and that is something we can respect. Now, off to explore Valparaiso!

To start, you’ll need to go up the hill. For this we recommend the elevator Reina Victoria that will take you to Paseo Dimalow, the elevator El Peral that takes you to Paseo Yugoslavo on Cerro Ale-gre, right in front of Palacio Baburizza. The third elevator we recommend is the one that connects the coastal plain (the lower sector of Valparaiso) to Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepcion. 100 metros se encuentra el Paseo Gervasoni, donde se ubica la Casa de Lukas y el Café Tu-rri, luego continuar el recorrido por el Pasaje Gálvez, escalera Fischer y calle Templeman, la Iglesia Luterana Alemana y la Anglicana St. Paul, y no olviden pasar por el pasaje Beetho-ven para fotografiarse en la escalera de piano.

En su vecino Cerro Alegre el recorrido debe incluir el Paseo Yugoslavo y Palacio Babu-rizza, la Casa Crucero que está saliendo del paseo y bajando por la calle Urriola, esta casa es una clásica postal de Valparaíso que deben retratar, Pasaje Bavestrello que cruza un edi-ficio a través de una escalera decorada con graffitis de artistas locales, y como dato, en una de sus puertas venden exquisitos alfajo-res, es sin duda un imperdible.

Mientras caminan entre angostos pasajes, subiendo y bajando escaleras, podrán admi-rar pequeñas tiendas, graffitis en la mayoría de los muros, restaurantes, bares, cafés, ta-lleres de artistas y orfebres, hoteles boutique y casas muy interesantes, en fin, todo un mun-do para descubrir y admirar porque como dice Neruda “Si recorremos todas las escaleras de Valparaíso, daremos la vuelta al mundo”.

Pasaje Bavestrello cros-ses through a building via a stairway decora-ted with graffiti by local artists, and just so you know, one of the doorways there sells delicious alfajores. It is, without a doubt, a must see!

As you walk along narrow alleyways, going up and down stairs, you will see cute shops, graffiti on most of the walls, restaurants, bars, cafés, artist and jewelry maker workshops, boutique hotels and really neat houses. All in all, there is a whole world to see and discover! Just like Pablo Neruda once said, “If you tour all the stairways of Valparaiso, you will have traveled around the world”.

Esta es una de las secciones más atrevi-das de Chile Deluxe, no saben a lo que nos hemos expuesto por retratar este par de botellas Premium, nos hemos mojado en el Seno de Última Esperanza para apoyar la botella en uno de esos troncos que son un ícono en más de una postal de Puerto Na-tales, y deben imaginar que la temperatura del agua no era de lo más templada, tam-bién hemos esperado horas con la botella en la mano a que se corra esa nube que tapa justo las famosas Torres del Paine, en bus-ca de lograr la instantánea perfecta, y más aún hemos esperado para obtener ese cielo rojizo en la Playa de Anakena.

En esta oportunidad, las botellas de Monte Fraile y Alto del Carmen nos acompañaron al altiplano, ahí la tarea no fue fácil, mira-dores a prueba de vertiginosos invitaban a capturar una fotografía que acredite que lle-gamos hasta aquí, con nuestras compañe-ras de viaje, con estas dos botellas que ade-más de llevarnos por Chile han sido parte de cada lugar que exploramos, de momentos únicos, de experiencias cautivantes.

This is one of the most daring sections of Chile Deluxe. You have no idea what we have gone through to photograph this pair of pre-mium bottles. We waded through the waters of the Ultima Esperanza Sound just to dis-play the bottle on one of the tree trunks that are so iconic in the post cards of Puerto Na-tales. As you can imagine, the temperature of the water was not very warm. We have also waited for hours, with bottle in hand, for that cloud to pass, the one covering the famous Torres del Paine, in search of the perfect moment. Not only that, we’ve waited to see the sky turn red over Anakena Beach.

On this opportunity, bottles of Monte Fraile and Alto del Carmen have accompanied us to the desert highlands. Here, it didn’t get any easier. Dramatic lookout points invited us to capture a photographic moment pro-ving that we had arrived here with our tra-vel companions. In addition to carrying us around Chile, these two bottles have been a part of every place we’ve explored, of once-in-a-lifetime moments, and of captivating experiences.

Each one comes with a happy ending. It’s that moment in which we sit down to enjoy our destination with cocktails that we prepare with one of these premium piscos. This time, we use Alto del Carmen The Essence of Mus-cat to make a delicious Rica-Rica Sour.

Here are our photos. Maybe one day we will present the “making of” with more than a funny story. But for now, we’ll share with you the recipe so that you can get a hold of this Atacaman ingredient as soon as possible and prepare this style of sour, paying homage to Chile’s desert, to this highland that invites you to be mesmerized by its landscapes, to dream big, to be amazed, excited, to scream into the empty space, or to be quiet in order to listen to Mother Earth. Thus, we must always pre-viously prepare ourselves to enjoy. Start by turning off the cellphone, freeing up your sche-dule for a few days, buying a plane ticket and while you wait for the day of your departure to arrive, enjoy this Rica-Rica Sour and it will be here before you know it. It’s time to fly high.

INGREDIENTES:

• Rica Rica• 240 ml de pisco Alto del Carmen• 240 ml de jarabe de goma• 240 ml de jugo de limón de pica o lima• 1 clara de huevo (opcional)• Amargo de Angostura

PREPARACIÓN:

• Dejar una ramita de Rica-Rica adentro de la botella de pisco durante 5 días.

• Colar el pisco macerado y ponerlo en el jarro de una juguera/licuadora.

• Agregar el jarabe de goma, el jugo de limón de pica o lima, y la clara de huevo. Refrige-rar para que esté bien frío.

• Licuar hasta mezclar bien y servir de inme-diato en copas frías.

• Agregar una o dos gotas de Amargo de Angostura a gusto.

• Espolvorear unos pocos granos de Rica-Rica en la superficie.

INGREDIENTS:

• rica-rica• 240 ml Alto del Carmen pisco• 240 ml gomme syrup• 240 ml key lime or lime juice• 1 egg white (optional)• Angostura Bitters

PREPARACIÓN:

• Leave a sprig of Rica-Rica inside of a bottle of pisco for 5 days.

• Strain the flavored pisco and pour it into a jui-cer/blender.

• Add gomme syrup, key lime or lime juice, and egg white. Refrigerate so that it is well chilled.

• Blend until well mixed and serve immediately in chilled glasses.

• Add one or two drops of Angostura Bitters to taste.

• Sprinkle a few rica-rica grains on top.

Siempre busco vivir aventuras emocio-nantes, sentir el placer de la velocidad, del vértigo, de la adrenalina que produce el mo-mento que viene a continuación de decir “sí, me atrevo”, seguido del clásico, “ahí vamos”.

Y no pensé que volvería a encontrar un de-porte extremo con tan alto grado de emo-ción que lograra generar en mi tanta adre-nalina, hasta que un día, mirando el cielo, vi un planeador y comencé a pensar que se sentiría estar ahí arriba, en un vuelo sin mo-tor conocido también como vuelo a vela, en esa nave ultra liviana con tremendas alas. Más que volar como un pájaro, esto es vo-lar como un cóndor, pensé, algo grandioso, que navega sólo con los movimientos de las masas de aire.

I’m always looking to go on exciting adven-tures, to feel the pleasure of the speed, of the vertigo, of the adrenalin produced by the mo-ment that comes directly after when I say “Yes, I’ll do it”, followed by the classic, “let’s go”.

I didn’t think I would ever find an extreme sport with such a high level of excitement, that would generate so much adrenalin in me, until one day, looking up at the sky, I saw a glider. I began to think about what it would feel like up there, on a flight without an engine in that ultra light aircraft with tremendous wings that is also known as a sailplane. More than flying like a bird, this is flying like a condor, I thought to myself. It’s something magnificent, controlled only by using the movements of the air currents.

Así, llegué hasta el Club de Planeadores de Vitacura para vivir la experiencia de volar por primera vez en un planeador, donde me recibe Rodrigo Lavanderos, avezado piloto e instructor de planeadores por más de 16 años, quién me enseñó sobre este deporte que comenzó en Alemania en el año 1920. Al llegar, me sorprende ver de cerca esta nave sin motor, de materiales ultra livianos, de gran belleza y simpleza.

Y así comienza la aventura, una avioneta está estacionada algunos metros más ade-lante en la pista, y será nuestro remolcador, ayudándonos a elevarnos con un cable que une ésta con el planeador.

Escucho el rugido de los motores del re-molque y con el cinturón de tres puntas bien ajustado empiezo a sentir como nos elevamos, hasta lograr una buena altura, momento en el que el remolque nos suelta dejando caer la cuerda, así, pude sentir la emoción de saber que solo éramos nosotros y el viento.

This is how I arrived at the Vitacura Gliding Club to live out the experience of flying for the first time in a glider. I am greeted by Rodrigo Lavanderos, experienced glider pilot and instructor for over 16 years, who teaches me about this sport that began in Germany in 1920. Upon arrival, I am sur-prised when I see up close this engineless plane made of ultra light materials, of great beauty and simplicity.

And thus the adventure begins. There is a small plane that is parked a few meters ahead of it on the runway. This plane will be our tow, helping to lift us with a cable that connects it to our glider.

I hear the roar of the engines of the tow-plane. With a well-adjusted three-point seatbelt on, I begin to feel our glider being elevated. When we reach a good altitude, it is the moment when the tow-plane relea-ses us, letting the cord fall. It is the moment when I feel the excitement of knowing that it is just us and the wind.

Sobrevolamos Santiago, después de unos 20 minutos, Rodrigo me pregunta si me siento bien y si no estoy mareada porque hasta ese entonces el vuelo era tranquilo, de ob-servación, para disfrutar el paisaje. Y al es-cucharme decir que estaba perfectamente bien, y más que bien, fascinada a 2500 me-tros de altura, volando como un pájaro, sin motor, me dijo “prepárate” y comenzamos a hacer piruetas, que fueron vuelo recto y ni-velado, ocho flojo y terminamos con virajes escarpados.

Solo puedo decirles que ha sido la aventu-ra extrema más increíble y adrenalínica de mi vida, es indescriptible la sensación de placer que sentí en cada pirueta, y ahora, revisando las fotos, solo pienso en volver a planear lo más pronto posible, en volver a vivir una experiencia cargada de emoción que por lo menos hay que experimentar una vez en la vida y, así, los invito a ustedes, lec-tores, a que nos envíen su mejor “Aventura Deluxe” para compartirla con todos quienes disfrutan cada temporada de lo mejor de Chile, desde la vitrina de Chile Deluxe.

We fly over Santiago. After some 20 minu-tes, Rodrigo asks me if I feel ok or if I am dizzy because so far the flight has been smooth, perfect for observing and enjoying the view. And when he hears me say that I am perfectly fine, more than fine, fasci-nated at 2500 meters (8202 feet) altitude, flying like a bird without the help of an engine, he says to me “prepare yourself”. Then we begin to do loops, flying at flat at-titude, a lazy eight and we finish with dips.

I can only tell you that it has been the most incredible and adrenaline pumping extre-me adventure of my life. The feeling of pleasure that I felt in each loop is indes-cribable. Now, as I review the pictures, all I can do is think about going gliding again as soon as possible, and once again having that excitement-packed experience that you have to try at least once in your life-time. Also, I invite you, the reader, to send us your best “Deluxe Adventure” to share it with all those who enjoy the best of Chile each season, from the display case that is Chile Deluxe.

Y continuando con Shakespeare, “Las horas negras” es una trilogía creada y dirigida por Romina Herrera que incluye fragmentos de Otelo, Macbeth y El rey Lear en formato lambe lambe. Este tipo de teatro presenta una obra en una caja. Fuera de ella, un actor mueve las marionetas y objetos en minia-tura, mientras el espectador mira por una abertura y escucha con audífonos la obra que por pocos minutos ocurre solo para él. Con una entrada se pueden ver los 15 minu-tos y las tres cajas de la trilogía. Del 22 de abril al 29 de mayo.

This season we head to Barrio Lastarria to enjoy an interesting and fun event sche-dule that Gam has prepared for all fanatics of scenic art, photography and dance. One of these events is the grand premiere of the Spa-nish version of Happy End, a musical comedy by Bertolt Brecht, Kurt Weill and Elisabeth Hauptmann. It will be showing Thursday to Sunday until May 15th,The theatrical production commemorates the 60th anniversary of the death of Brecht (Ber-lin, 1956), and is brought to the stage by Alvaro Viguera with 14 actors and a live orchestra. To Viguera it is “a musical that makes fun of Broadway musicals and their happy endings.. “. The musical stars Geraldine Neary, Gabriel Urzua, Elvira Lopez, Bastian Bodenhöfer, Glo-ria Münchmeyer, Felipe Castro, Catalina Mar-tin and Gabriel Cañas, among others.

Another premiere is William Shakespeare’s tragedy Richard III, written over 400 years ago. It is brought to the stage by Jacqueline Rou-meau with a cast of people in the process of

And continuing with Shakespeare, “Las horas negras” is a trilogy written and directed by Romina Herrera that includes parts of Othe-llo, Macbeth and King Lear in lambe lambe format. This type of theater consists of putting on a production inside a box. Outside the box, an actor moves the marionettes and miniature objects while the spectator watches through an opening and listens to the performance via headphones. It’s a private show lasting only a few minutes. One ticket is good for the 15-mi-nute show and the three boxes of the trilogy. Showing April 22nd to May 29th.

Ópera, ballet, conciertos y destacados pianistas nos trae esta temporada la carte-lera del Teatro Municipal de Santiago, para que, con calendario en mano, comiencen a programar sus noches de otoño, partiendo por asignarle un día a una ópera dramática, “La Gioconda” de Amilcare Ponchielli que se presenta del 11 al 23 de mayo.

Del 23 de junio al 1 de julio la recomenda-ción es escoger un día, para presenciar un estreno en Chile de la versión completa de “Auge y caída de la ciudad de Mahagonny”, una mezcla de teatro y ópera electrizante, obra de Kurt Weill.

El Museo Precolombino y Minera Escon-dida, operada por BHP Billiton, presentan esta exhibición de cincuenta y dos piezas perteneciente al Museo Nacional de Ar-queología, Antropología e Historia, Ministe-rio de Cultura del Perú y estará en el Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino hasta el 6 de junio. Una interesante muestra para apreciar la riqueza técnica, estilística y cromática de los antiguos tejidos de Paracas, entre los que destacan principalmente los monumen-tales mantos funerarios bordados. Se estima que fueron creados por este pueblo de Perú aproximadamente a comienzos de nuestra Era, permaneciendo enterrados en la arena por alrededor de dos milenios.

Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino (Chilean Museum for Pre-Colombian Art) and Minera Escondida, operated by BHP Billiton, are presenting this 52-piece exhi-bition belonging to the Cultural Ministry of Peru’s National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History that will be on display at the Museo Chileno de Arte Preco-lombino until June 6th. At this interesting exhibition you can ob-serve the technical, stylistic and chromatic richness of the ancient Paracas textiles, among which are the amazing embroide-red funeral mantles. In addition, there is clothing, ceramic pottery, gold adornments, and other offerings that accompanied the deceased on their trip to the afterlife.

Paracas Burial Mantles: Gifts for Lifein the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino

Since their discovery by archaeologists almost a century ago, the embroidered Paracas textiles have fascinated the world over. They belong to the huge necropolis of WariKayán discovered in 1927. Here 429 funerary mantles from the era of the Paracas Necropolis were unearthed. It is believed that they created by this Peruvian society around the beginning of our era, remaining buried in the sand for around two thousand years.

This exhibition is a must see this season. We also recommend checking out the museum’s permanent exhibitions: Pre-Columbian America in Art (with 8 cultural areas) and Chile before Chile.

El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes esta temporada nos sorprende con dos impor-tantes exposiciones. “Mi andadura” de Fer-nando Casasempere, que se presenta hasta el 29 de mayo, es la primera exposición del artista en Chile luego de 20 años residien-do en Londres. Son cerca de 300 piezas de cerámica las que aquí se exponen, donde el público podrá ver el estudio que el artista ha desarrollado sobre la materialidad y el color, integrando residuos mineros y volcánicos, entre otros, y otorgándole a su trabajo un ca-rácter sustentable y ecológico que también es destacado en la muestra.

En las alas norte y sur del segundo piso del museo se expone (en)clave Masculi-no, selección de cerca de cien obras de la colección del MNBA, en la cual es posible apreciar prácticas de lo masculino que han funcionado como ejes de articulación de la modernidad chilena. En la curatoría de la historiadora del arte Gloria Cortés, desta-can piezas del acervo patrimonial de la ins-titución que se exhiben por primera vez al público como Cristo Muerto (1892) del pintor francés Jean Jacques Henner (1829-1905) que recuerda a la versión que se exhibe en forma permanente en el Museo de Orsay de París y nuevas adquisiciones como el Pro-meteo encadenado de Pedro Lira. This season, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) or “Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts” surprises us with two impor-tant expositions. Mi Andadura by Fernando Casasempere, on display until May 29th, is the first exposition by this Chilean artist after returning from a 20-year residence in London. There are close to 300 ceramic pieces on exhibition, in which the public can see they study that the artist has done on the appearance and the color, integrating mining and volcanic waste, among other things, and giving his work a sustainable, ecological nature that is also apparent in the display.

In the north and south wings of the museum’s second floor there is (En)clave Masculino, a selection of close to 100 pie-ces from the MNBA collection, in which you can see representations of masculinity that have served as articulation axes of Chilean modernity. Under the curatorship of art historian Gloria Cortes, there are pieces of the institution’s cultural heritage that are exhibited for the first time to the public, like Dead Christ (1892) by French painter Jean Jacques Henner (1829-1905) that reminds one of the version that is on permanent dis-play at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and new acquisitions like the Prometeo Encadenado by Pedro Lira. La sexta versión del Festival Latinoameri-cano de Cocina se realizará entre el 11 y 17 de abril, bajo el concepto #AmoMiTierra”. Durante los siete días del festival, se pre-sentarán destacados chefs nacionales e in-ternacionales, quienes realizarán charlas, Talleres Magistrales y la oportunidad única y exclusiva de participar de los Talleres Ex-pertos, para un máximo de veinte asistentes.

Desde el jueves 14 al domingo 17 de abril, se llevará a cabo el festival para todo el público, en una gran celebración que se desplegará en el Cerro Santa Lucía y sus alrededores.

Una invitación a pasear por Ñam Mercado, Caleta Ñam, disfrutar de Ñam Barrio con más de 20 restaurantes de Lastarria y Mer-ced que se sumarán a la fiesta, o si prefie-ren, en Resto Ñam pueden probar y compar-tir sabrosas preparaciones de los carros de comida y sector de parrillas instalados en el Cerro Santa Lucía. Y todos los días en la Pla-za Caupolicán, se impartirán clases de co-cina. Además habrán clases para aprender a catar y servir vinos. Por otra parte, en el Castillo Hidalgo, se realizará el World Class, un concurso de bartenders.

Los niños también están invitados a esta fiesta con distintas actividades y clases de cocina para ellos en Ñamcito.

The 6th annual Festival Latinoamericano de Cocina or “Latin American Food Festival” will take place April 11th – 17th, based on the concept #AmoMiTierra”. During the 7-day festival, famous national and international chefs will be presenting as well as holding lectures and master classes. Visitors have the unique and exclusive op-portunity to attend expert workshops with a maximum of twenty participants.

From Thursday, April 14th to Sunday, April 17th, the festival will be open to the general public with a huge celebration taking place on and around Cerro Santa Lucia.

If you prefer, at Resto Ñam you can try and sha-re delicious dishes from the food trucks and the grill sector located on Cerro Santa Lu-cia. Cooking classes will be held every day at Plaza Caupolican. There will also be classes where you can learn to taste and serve wine. In addition, the World Class bartending con-test will take place at Castillo Hidalgo.

Kids are also invited to this party. Here they will find a variety of activities and cooking classes just for them at Ñamcito.

Llegó el otoño y con él uno de los momentos más esperados del año, la vendimia, y como amantes del vino no podíamos dejar de vivir esta entretenida eno-experiencia.

A las diez y media nos esperan en Viña Indómita, ubicada en el Valle de Casablanca, para comen-zar el tour “Mi primera vendimia”. Nos reciben en el Centro de Visitas con un cálida bienvenida y nos entregan agua, un sombrero, una peche-ra, un canasto y tijeras para podar. Entusias-madas caminamos por un sendero hacia un cuartel de uvas Premium, que corresponden en esta oportunidad a la cepa Sauvignon Blanc, las cuales están listas para ser cosechadas.

Así, comenzamos esta divertida actividad, cor-tando racimos desde el tallo, despejando pri-mero las hojas, para depositarlos en nuestros canastos, el cual, más tarde llevaremos hasta el patio de vendimia ya que nos dicen que las uvas que hemos vendimiado serán utilizadas en la elaboración de estos reconocidos vinos.

Fall is here and with it one of the most awaited events of the year, the harvest! As wine lovers, we could not resist partaking in this fun eno-experience.

They are waiting for us at Viña Indomita, lo-cated in the Valley of Casablanca, at 10:30 am to start the “My First Harvest” tour. They give us a warm welcome at the visitors cen-ter and proceed to give us water, a hat, an apron, a basket and pruning shears. Excited, we walk along a path towards a plot of pre-mium grapes that are ready to be harvested. On this opportunity, they happen to be Sau-vignon Blanc.

This is how this fun activity begins, cutting grape clusters off the branch, taking the leaves off first, and then placing them in our baskets. Later, we take these to the harvest patio since we have been told that the very grapes we harvested will be used to make these recognized wines.

Pero antes nos tenían preparada una degus-tación de Sauvignon Blanc en la laguna, un lugar de gran belleza escénica, perfecto para disfrutar de una copa de este Indómita Gran Reserva 2015, del Valle de Casablanca, que se caracteriza por ser un valle de clima frío don-de predominan los vientos frescos y salinos del Pacífico. Un vino fresco que se presenta con una atrevida acidez y notas a manzana verde, hierba fresca, piña y limón.

El tour continúa con la visita a la sala de vini-ficación y sala de barricas para finalizar con una cata de vinos Ultra Premium que comien-za con un Duette Chardonnay 2014, seguido de un Duette Pinot Noir del mismo año. La tercera copa es para un ensamblaje de 60% Cabernet Sauvignon y 40% Carmenere, para finalizar con el Zardoz, vino ícono de la viña co-rrespondiente a un Cabernet Sauvignon 2013.

But before this, they have prepared a Sau-vignon Blanc tasting for us at the lake. This place of great scenic beauty is perfect for en-joying a glass of Indomita Gran Reserva 2015. This wine comes from the Valley of Casablan-ca, which is known for being a cool climate valley thanks to the fresh, ocean breezes that arrive from the Pacific. It’s a crisp wine that contains a bold acidity and notes of green apple, fresh herb, pineapple and lemon.

The tour continues with a visit to the produc-tion room and barrel cellar to finish with an ultra premium wine tasting. It begins with a Duette Chardonnay 2014, followed by a Duet-te Pinot Noir from the same year. The third glass is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Carmenere, and the final glass is a Zardoz. It’s an icon wine from the winery co-rresponding to a Cabernet Sauvignon 2013.

VERAMONTE: VINOS CON VERDADERO SENTIDO DE LUGAR

WINES WITH A TRUE SENSE OF PLACE

Veramonte es una bodega familiar en Ca-sablanca, ubicada entre la Cordillera de los Andes y la costa del Pacífico, a menos de una hora en auto de Santiago. Agustín Huneeus, empresario y pionero en la industria del vino, compró terrenos ahí en 1990, después de ob-servar el sabor distintivo de las uvas de un vi-ñedo local. Debido a sus condiciones de clima fresco con una larga temporada de madura-ción, el valle es ahora una denominación pre-ciada y está entre las diez “Wine Capitals of the World” (Capitales de Vino del Mundo). El edificio de la bodega, imaginado por Agustín, se inspira en el mercado central de Santiago y está rodeado de 400 hectáreas de Chardon-nay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot y Syrah, que a su vez están rodeadas por 2.500 hectáreas de bosques nativos.El proyecto ha recorrido un largo camino desde su primera cosecha en 1996. En la ac-tualidad ha incorporado propiedades en las reconocidas denominaciones de Chile, tales como Apalta -con algunos de los viñedos más antiguos del nuevo mundo y Marchigüe - te-rroir Premium para vinos tintos- ambos en el Valle de Colchagua.

Veramonte is a family-owned winery in Casablanca, between the soaring An-des Mountains and the rugged Pacific Coast, just one hour drive from Santiago. Wine pioneer and entrepreneur Agustin Huneeus bought land there in 1990 after noting the distinctive flavor of grapes from a small local vineyard. Because of its long, cool growing season, the valley is now a prized appellation and of the ten Wine Capitals of the World. The winery building, imagined by Agustin, is inspi-red in Santiago’s central market and is surrounded by 400 hectares of Chardon-nay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Carmenere, which are in turn enclo-sed by 2500 hectares of native forests.

The project has come a long way since its first harvest in 1996, and now inclu-des new estates in the best appellations of Chile, such as Apalta –with some of the oldest vineyards in the New World- and Marchigüe – premium terroir for red varieties-, both in the Colchagua Valley.

QUE SE LUZCAN LOS VIÑEDOS

En Veramonte, el cuidado de la tierra y el me-dio ambiente es una prioridad. Creen firme-mente que las prácticas agrícolas sustenta-bles mejoran la calidad del vino, obteniendo así uvas procedentes de viñedos sanos y lon-gevos. El objetivo es lograr que tengan más carácter, sabor y aromas, buscando hacer un producto realmente distintivo. Su decisión de certificarse como agricultura orgánica res-ponde a esta necesidad de vinos expresivos con un verdadero sentido de lugar: “Cual-quier buen vino siempre refleja su origen, y el origen es interpretado por la variedad utiliza-da. En términos musicales, es el instrumento mediante el cual se expresa la partitura de un lugar -su suelo, su exposición, el clima. En-tonces el lugar, la variedad y el vino son uno” reflexiona Agustín Huneeus.

Veramonte became known for its emble-matic Sauvignon Blanc, now a favorite among many restaurants worldwide. The rest followed and today Veramonte and its brands – Ritual, Primus and Neyen- are consistently ranked among the best.

The key to their success is based on the be-lief that great wine is evidence of the uni-que quality of its terroir: a combination of people, soil, topography, and climate.

LET THE VINEYARDS SHINE

At Veramonte, care for the land and the environment is a top priority. They firmly believe that natural farming practices im-prove the quality of the wine, thus obtaining superior grapes from healthy vineyards with proven longevity. The objective is to grow grapes with more character, taste and aromas, with the aim of making truly distinctive wines. Their decision to beco-me certified as organic farming responds to this need of making expressive wines with a true sense of place: “Any fine wine always reflects its origin. I know now that origin is interpreted by the variety used. In musical terms, it́ s the instrument by which the score of a place –its soil, its exposure, its climate- is expressed. Then the place, the variety and the wine are one” ponders Agustín Huneeus.

TURISMO PARA APRENDER

La pasión que Veramonte le imprime a la pro-ducción de sus vinos, la transmite con entu-siasmo en los tours educativos que ofrece en su centro de visitas, Casona Veramonte. Du-rante la visita, se explica la historia de Vera-monte y su filosofía sustentable a lo largo de todo el proceso de vinificación. Los recorri-dos llevan a aprender sobre la elaboración, el manejo orgánico de los viñedos y los procesos que se llevan a cabo en la bodega de fermen-tación, y la bodega de guarda.

A lo largo del año, se ofrecen tours relacio-nados con el momento que se está viviendo en la viña. Desde marzo, por ejemplo, existe el Tour Vendimia, donde las visitas pueden vivir la fascinante experiencia de cosechar ellos mismos las uvas, aprendiendo las técnicas del campo, y más adelante el proceso que se lleva a cabo en la recepción y selección de la uva. The passion that Veramonte dedicates to wine production is transmitted through the enthusiasm apparent in its educative tours offered at its visitor’s center, Casona Vera-monte. During your visit, you will be told about Veramonte’s history and its sustainable phi-losophy that involves the entire winemaking process. The tours will teach you about wine-making, organic vineyard management and the processes carried out in the fermentation cellar, in addition to the wine storage cellar.

Tours are offered throughout the year and are based on what process the winery is un-dergoing at that moment. As of March, for example, there is the Vendi-mia Tour, where visitors themselves can take part in the fascinating process of harvest the grapes, learning field techniques, and later on, the process carried out during grape re-ception and selection. It is a unique opportu-nity to experience this important phase that starts the entire production cycle and ends with the wine being bottled a few months la-ter. The tour also includes the tasting of these wines –some directly from the barrel- as well as a selection of premium wines in a guided tasting, together with specially designed food pairings. To make everything easier, groups are picked up in Santiago and are returned

What is the relevance of enotourism for Veramonte?

Veramonte has taken enotourism very se-riously, which is expressed in a considerable in-vestment in our renovated Casona Veramonte, with the aim of offering an excellent service and unique tourism experience. We want the tou-rism area to be a reflection of the value propo-sition of our premium wines, and a contribution to the development of the Casablanca Valley.

What is the tourism offer in Casona Vera-monte?

We offer tours and tastings, tailored accor-ding to each production cycle in our vine-yards. For example we are now with the Har-vest Tour. For example, we are now offering the Vendimia or “harvest” tour. These tours have an educational focus that is based on helping customers understand. We also have a Café with simple but delicious breakfasts and lunches, where friends and family can have a pleasant time, and finish with a visit to the wine shop. There is also the possibility of private tours, and we have function rooms for meetings or events. We want people to fill this place with activity and celebrate the good things of life in the company of a fine wine.

Looks like the trend is here to stay. Therefo-re, from now on Sundays come with brunch. For those that are still unfamiliar with the term, it is a combination of breakfast and lunch. HARVEST SEASONA SHORT GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THIS FINE PROCESS

Ésta es mi temporada favorita, las parras se visten de cálidos tonos rojizos, marrones y amarillos realzando la belleza del paisaje de las viñas, anunciando la época de vendimia para cosechar las uvas que darán vida a des-tacados vinos nacionales. Es el caso de Viña Montes, ubicada en Apalta, en el reconocido Valle de Colchagua, quienes en esta oportu-nidad nos enseñan sobre el proceso de ela-boración del vino, desde la cosecha hasta el embotellado.En las páginas a continuación les contamos, de forma simple cómo se lleva a cabo la vendimia, la cual se vive de una forma muy especial aquí, en Viña Montes, donde podrán realizar un tour entre las parras otoñales, su bodega diseñada bajo el concepto del Feng Shui y finalizando con una degustación de sus reconocidas etiquetas. Y como recomen-dación, no pueden dejar de probar la carta de otoño del Bistró Alfredo, de exquisita gastro-nomía y en un entorno de sublime belleza.

This is my favorite season. The grape-vines turn warm tones of red, brown and yellow, exalting the beauty of the vineyard landscape. This season also marks the be-ginning of the harvest, a time to gather the grapes that will give life to famous Chilean wines. Such is the case at Viña Montes, located in the renowned Apalta Valley. On this opportunity they show us the winema-king process, from harvest to bottle.

In the following pages is a basic summary of how the harvest is carried out. Here at Viña Montes, this process is celebrated in a special way and you can see it by ta-king a tour through the autumn-colored vines, the cellar designed with Feng Shui architecture and finishing with a tasting of its famous labels. As a recommendation, don’t leave without tasting the fall menu at Bistró Alfredo, a place known for its deli-cious cuisine and sublime scenic beauty.

Empecemos entonces por la cosecha, la cual comienza en abril cuando las uvas han alcan-zado la madurez necesaria en azúcar y com-puestos fenólicos, decisión que es tomada entre el enólogo y viticultor. En general la co-secha se realiza durante las primeras horas de la mañana para que la fruta esté turgente y además, como Viña Montes es sustentable, evitar el uso de gasto de energía para bajar la temperatura. Toda la cosecha es manual y muy delicada, y en algunos casos es llevada a cabo por verdaderos acróbatas, ya que las pendientes de los viñedos pueden llegar has-ta 45°. La cosecha es en gamelas de 12Kg, por lo tanto hay una selección de la uva en el campo y que además permite que la uva llegue en excelentes condiciones a la bodega.

Let us start, then, with the harvest, which begins in April when the grapes have rea-ched the maturity necessary in terms of su-gar and phenolic compounds. This decision is made by the winemaker and the grape grower. In general, the harvest is carried out during the early morning hours so that the fruit is turgid. Plus, because Viña Montes is sustainable, they avoid using energy to lower the temperature. The harvest is delicate and done manually, and in some cases is carried out by real acrobats, given that the vineyard hillsides can have up to 45° slopes. Harves-ting is done using 12kg (26.5 lbs.) trays. The-refore, the selection process is carried out in the field and allows the grape to arrive in excellent conditions to the cellar.

La selección de la uva una vez cosechada es muy importante para el resultado final, de esta manera la uva llega a la bodega que fué diseñada para funcionar por método gravi-tacional. A través de un ascensor se eleva la uva al techo de la bodega, donde está el pa-tio de recepción; es aquí donde mujeres van seleccionando cuidadosamente la mejor uva que avanza a través de unas mesas vibra-torias y una despalilladora que separa los granos del racimo. Después de la selección, caen por gravedad a través de una manga hacia un tanque, al interior de la bodega.

Así, llega el momento de la fermentación; una vez adentro de los estanques de acero inoxidable se deja reposar la uva por 7 días en condiciones frías, de aproximadamente 7°C en lo que se llama maceración prefer-mentativa, permitiendo una mejor obtención de aromas propios de cada cepa. Luego, se sube la temperatura y las levaduras co-mienzan a transformar el azúcar de la uva en alcohol, en un proceso que además le aporta color y aromas al vino. Después de 15 días ya se ha obtenido el alcohol y carac-terísticas que el enólogo busca en cada vino.

Once harvested, grape selection plays a very important part in the final result. This way, the grape arrives at the cellar that was designed to work using the gravitatio-nal method. The grape is transported by elevator up to the roof of the winery where the patio for receiving grapes is located. It is here where women work carefully selecting the best grapes that later pass through two vibrating tables and a destemmer that se-parates the grape seed from the fruit. After the selection, they fall by gravity through a sleeve into a tank inside the cellar.

Now it’s time for fermentation. Once inside the stainless steel tanks, the grapes are allowed to soak for 7 days at a cold tempe-rature, approximately 7°C (44°F). This pro-cess is called pre-fermentation maceration and allows a better extraction of aromas from each type of grape. Then, the tempera-ture is raised and the yeast begins to trans-form the sugar from the grape into alcohol in a process that gives the wine its color and aromas. After 15 days, the wine has obtained the alcohol content and characteristics that the winemaker seeks.

Una vez que el vino está listo, viene la guarda en barricas de roble francés. Todo el líquido es sacado de la cuba de acero inoxidable y lle-vado a una bodega especial, donde reposarán entre 12 y 24 meses, dependiendo del vino. En esta etapa, las barricas descansan en una bo-dega con forma de anfiteatro, al son de cantos gregorianos dándole una especial vibración al vino y una agradable sensación de solemnidad a los trabajadores y visitas. Una vez que el vino ha reposado el tiempo necesario, está listo para ser embotellado y etiquetado; en botella podrá esperar entre seis meses y cuatro años para estar listo para ser tomado. Ahora es momento de disfrutar, del resultado del trabajo realizado por destacados enólogos y vitivinicultores y de todos quienes trabajan en Viña Montes, con pasión y respeto por la tierra, para que nosotros aquí, en la viña, en un restaurant o en la comodidad de nuestros hogares podamos disfrutar de estos presti-giosos vinos Premium.

Once the wine is ready, it is stored in barrels made of French Oak. All liquid is removed from the stainless steel cube and taken to a special cellar where it will be stored bet-ween 12 and 24 months, depending on the wine. In this phase, the barrels rest in a cellar shaped like an amphitheater, inside which Gregorian chants play, giving a spe-cial vibration to the wine and a nice feeling of solemnity to workers and visitors. Once the wine has rested for the necessary pe-riod of time, it is ready to be bottled and la-beled. Afterwards, the wine is kept between six months and four years before it is ready to be opened. PARQUE NACIONAL TORRES DEL PAINE


Este es un trekking contemplativo para amantes de la fotografía y el senderismo, siendo el otoño el mejor momento para capturar los colores de su bosque caducifolio, y es además uno de los mejores lugares para ver Araucarias milenarias como la denominada “Araucaria Madre”, uno de los ejemplares más antiguos del planeta.

Además este lugar sirvió de locación para la serie “Walking with Dinosaurs” emitida por Dis-covery Channel por su paisaje similar al que habitaron estos gigantes vertebrados.

Un bosque de impresionante belleza, con la cumbre nevada del volcán Llaima como prota-gonista, miradores como los del trayecto de Sierra Nevada y lagunas como la Captrén, para explorar la naturaleza salvaje de la Araucanía Andina, y así admirar y fotografiar estos es-pectaculares paisajes de otoño y algunos protagonistas de la fauna del lugar como el pájaro carpintero, el cóndor y mamíferos como la güiña (gato salvaje), pumas y zorros.

PARQUE NACIONAL CONGUILLÍO

This is a contemplative trek for photography and hiking enthusiasts and fall is the best time to capture the colors of its deciduous forest. It is also one of the best places to see millenary araucarias or monkey-puzzle trees like the famous “Araucaria Madre”, one of the world’s oldest.

In addition, this place also served as the filming location for “Walking with Dinosaurs” shown on Discovery Channel thanks to its landscape being similar to that which these giant vertebrates inhabited.

Here you will find an amazingly beautiful forest, together with the snow covered sum-mit of the Llaima Volcano, lookout points like those on the Sierra Nevada Trail and lagoons such as Captren. You can explore this wild natural area known as the Andean Araucanía, as well as admire and photograph its spectacular fall landscapes and some of its wildlife like the woodpecker and condor, and mammals like the güiña (wild cat), pumas and foxes.

CONGUILLIO NATIONAL PARK

Durante abril y mayo, justo antes de que comiencen a bajar las temperaturas y las laderas a cubrirse de nieve, su bosque na-tivo compuesto por milenarias araucarias, coigües, mañios, lengas y ñirres muestran su atractivo color rojizo.

Se ubica a sólo 38 kilómetros de Pucón y para recorrerlo tienen habilitados una se-rie de senderos de diferentes niveles de dificultad para admirar lagos, lagunas, vol-canes y asombrosas vistas, por ello, si las condiciones físicas y el tiempo les permiten llegar a la cumbre del cerro San Sebastían, podrán disfrutar de una soberbia panorámi-ca, acompañada en algunas ocasiones, del majestuoso vuelo del cóndor.

During April and May, just before the tempe-ratures begin to plunge and the hillsides are-covered with snow, the native forest composed of millenary monkey-puzzle trees, Dombey’s beech, plum pines, southern beech and An-tarctic beech trees turn an attractive red color. Located just 38 kilometers (24 miles) from Pu-con, this national park has a number of hiking trails of all different difficulty levels that are open to the public. Here you can admire lakes, lagoons, volcanoes, and fantastic views. And, physical shape and the weather permitting, you can reach the summit of San Sebastian where you will see a magnificent panoramic view and, on some occasions, the majestic flight of a condor.

Este es un trekking de aproximadamente doce kilómetros (ida y vuelta), internándose en la selva valdiviana por un sendero habi-litado por la comunidad indígena local que atraviesa un denso bosque, de exuberante vegetación, para caminar entre árboles na-tivos, cruzando puentes y cascadas y dis-frutando de la belleza del bosque mientras ascendemos hasta llegar a los mil metros donde se esconde el Lago Paraíso.

Un lago de impresionante belleza, que en esta época cautiva con las vistas de su orilla rodeada de bosque siempreverde y lengas que adquieren atractivos tonos rojizos. Para quedarse a contemplar el paisaje por horas, pero si siguen caminando unos 35 minutos más, desde el refugio que van a encontrar como entrada al lago, podrán descansar en una playa, en absoluta soledad y así disfru-tar de su impresionante panorámica otoñal.

Para realizar este trekking, les recomenda-mos alojar en el exclusivo Cantarias Lodge, quienes disponen de diferentes circuitos de trekking, ascención a volcanes, travesías en kayak y pesca con mosca.

This is a hike that is approximately 12 kilo-meters round trip (7.5 miles). It goes into a Valdivian forest on a trail made by a local indigenous community and travels through a thick wooded area of lush vegetation. Here you will walk among native tree spe-cies, cross bridges and waterfalls while you enjoy the beauty of this forest. Gradually you climb up to 1000 meters (3280 feet) ele-vation where you will find Lago Paraíso or “Paradise Lake”.

This lovely lake is especially attractive this season thanks to the vistas from its shore that is surrounded by evergreen trees and beech trees that turn an attractive red color. You could stay here gazing at this landscape for hours. However, if you continue walking another 35 minutes from the shelter that you are going to find at the lake entrance, you can rest on an actual beach, all alone, and enjoy this impressive fall panoramic view.

In order to hike this trail, we recommend lod-ging at the exclusive Cantarias Lodge. Here there are different trekking circuits, hikes up to volcanoes, kayak tours, and fly fishing.

LAGO PARAÍSO, PARQUE NACIONAL PUYEHUEPARADISE LAKE, PUYEHUE NATIONAL PARK

Carrera Aysén Run 2016 va en su terce-ra versión, consolidándose como la carrera más desafiante de las rutas de Aysén, la que se desarrollará este próximo 30 de abril en el sector de Lago Frío, ubicado a 20 kilóme-tros de Coyhaique.

Será la naturaleza exorbitante del otoño en el destino Aysén Patagonia, reconocida como la estación más linda del año, caracterizada por sus innumerables bosques de lenga y ñi-rre de colores rojos y amarillos, que recibirá a los competidores, los cuales ya alistan sus zapatillas para insertarse en sorprendentes bosques y lagunas rurales del sector.

Por su parte, la carrera comprende catego-rías que van desde los 10K, 15K, 24K, 42K y hasta 60K, donde participarán competidores desde los 10 años cumplidos de edad, sin im-portar el viento, el frío, el sol o la escarcha, y quienes tendrán la posibilidad de recorrer y disfrutar de imponentes atractivos turísticos.

This year is the 3rd annual Aysen Run 2016, considered as the most challenging race on the routes of Aysen. It will take place on April 30th at Lago Frío, located 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) from Coyhaique.

Greeting competitors will be Aysen’s spectacular fall scenery. Known for being especially pretty during this season, this part of the Patagonia has boundless fo-rests of southern and Antarctic beech trees that turn fabulous shades of red and yellow. Runners are already getting ready to take off into the surprisingly beautiful woods and lake dotted areas of this part of Chile.

This race features categories that range from 10K, 15K, 24K, 42K and up to 60K. Regardless of the wind, cold, sun or frost, competitors as young as 10 years old will have the chance to run and enjoy the fan-tastic tourist attractions found here.
