Insisto, no hay como llegar a un buen hotel, ser recibido con una sonrisa y un cocktail, que en esta oportunidad es un Pisco Sour de Rica Rica, que la habitación sea espaciosa, cálida, de cuidada decoración y silenciosa, con linda vista al río San Pedro o a la Cordillera de la Sal, y una terraza exquisita para leer y disfru-tar de la tranquilidad del lugar.

Tanto como las cumple la serie de piscinas al aire libre con que cuenta este fantástico hotel, son cinco frías y una climatizada además de un jacuzzi exterior, un aplauso para los autores de la infraestructura exterior y el diseño de su paisaje.

The hotel where we are staying is Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa. It’s a sure bet! It has a lovely location, surrounded by the Cordillera de la Sal or “Salt Mountain Range” and its mar-velous colors. The hotel’s architectural design blends in with the landscape, and its fantastic outdoor gardens, designed by Veronica Po-blete- the famous botanist who specializes in landscaping in extreme climates-, make this place unique and simply spectacular.

In my opinion, there is nothing better than arriving at a great hotel and being greeted with a smile and a cocktail. On this occasion, it’s a Pisco Sour de Rica Rica. The room should be spacious, warm, and tastefully decorated. It has to be quiet, and have a great view of the San Pedro River or the Cordillera de la Sal, and a lovely terrace where you can read or just enjoy the location’s peaceful ambiance.

Thus, the list of requirements for identifying a great hotel grows, and we move on to the spa. Complete with jacuzzi, sauna, and massages, it’s an environment that invites you to get away from it all. This hotel’s spa is named Puri Spa and it satisfies all my expectations. This fan-tastic hotel also has a number of outdoor swimming pools. There are five cold-water pools and one heated pool in addition to an outdoor jacuzzi. Y como aquí también se viene a recorrer, Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa cuenta con ex-cursiones diarias a los principales atractivos de San Pedro y sus alrededores, todas de baja difi-cultad y siempre acompañados de un guía bilin-güe. La idea de las excursiones es llegar en van hasta el punto más cercano posible del atractivo turístico visitado, ahí se detienen y nos bajamos a recorrer y admirar los más bellos lugares mientras ellos montan una mesa con aperitivo o almuerzo según sea la extensión de la ruta.

Nuestros cuatro días en San Pedro de Atacama incluyeron las siguientes excursiones: Atarde-cer en Laguna Chaxa, un imperdible, aunque la mañana también es un buen momento para ir porque hay menos afluencia de público y los flamencos se acercan más; visitar la belleza escenográfica de Laguna Céjar y atreverse a flotar en estas aguas que poseen altas con-centraciones de sal, recorrer el Valle de la Luna y más tarde volver al mirador de Kari para presenciar una increíble puesta de sol y por supuesto fotografiarse en la Piedra del Coyote; los Géiseres del Tatio, que recomen-damos ir al tercer día de aclimatación para evitar la puna o mal de altura, esta excursión sale a las 6 de la mañana para llegar a desa-yunar a los Géiseres, una experiencia única, un sitio impresionante, un lugar que todos deben conocer, al bajar se puede visitar el pueblo de Machuca, sus particulares casas y su iglesia.

deserve a round of applause.As guests also come to tour, Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa offers daily excursions to the main attractions in and around San Pedro. All the excursions are low-level difficulty and led by bilingual guides. The hotel transports guests by van as close as possible to the tou-rist attraction. Once there, guests are wel-come to get out, walk about and admire the most beautiful places while staff set up a table with cocktails or even lunch depending on the length of the journey.

Our four days in San Pedro de Atacama inclu-ded the following excursions: Sunset at Chaxa Lagoon, a must, although sunrise is also a great time to go because there are less people and the flamingos are easier to see; the scenic beauty of Cejar Lagoon and the chance to float in these waters with high salt concentration, tour the Valley of the Moon and then return to the Kari Lookout in order to see an amazing sunset and take pictures on Coyote Rock; Del Tatio Geysers, which we recommend visiting the third day in order to give you body a chance to acclimate thus avoiding altitude sickness. This excursion leaves at 6 am and breakfast is eaten at the geysers. It’s a unique experience, an impressive place, and one that everyone should see. On the trip back, you can visit the interesting houses and the church in the town of Machuca.

Nuestro cuarto día fue sin duda el mejor, nuestra excursión favorita, el Salar de Tara, un full day en que se asciende hasta los 4500 mts de altura, incluso pasando en la van por los 5000 mts, la primera parada es para cono-cer los Monjes de la Pacana, unos gigantes de piedra en medio del desierto que hace devol-ver la capacidad de asombro a quien sea que pase por este lugar, para más tarde llegar a almorzar a nuestro destino final. El Salar de Tara seguro los dejará sin aliento, acabará con la capacidad del memory stick de sus cá-maras, y mientras caminan a paso lento por la altura y el viento, sentirán que este lugar único en la tierra debe ser sin duda uno de los más bellos parajes que hayan visto jamás.

Without a doubt, our fourth day was the best. Our favorite excursion, the Tara Salt flat, is a full day trip that takes you up to 4500 m (ap-prox. 14,764 ft) altitude, and in van past 5000 m (approx.16,404 ft). The first stop is to see los Monjes de la Pacana, gigantic rock formations in the middle of the desert that will leave in awe all those who pass through this part of the desert. Later we have lunch at our final desti-nation. The Tara Salt Flat will surely leave you breathless and without space on your camera’s memory stick. As you walk slowly to compen-sate for the wind and altitude, you will feel like this unique spot must be, without a doubt, one the most beautiful places you have ever seen.

La naturaleza ha sido por siglos, fuente de inspiración para artistas que han utilizado diferentes técnicas y colores para retratar sus paisajes, llenando de belleza los muros de casas y galerías. Imágenes estáticas que miramos simplemente porque nos deleitan.

El arte es una de las disciplinas que más a estudiado la belleza, intentando definir este concepto para algunos subjetivo y para otros lógico-matemático, que tiene que ver con la armonía de las formas que se tradu-cen en un número o proporción áurea, que se puede encontrar en la naturaleza. Desde aquí parte todo, la naturaleza en sí es bella, y es quizás por esta razón que todos quie-nes aman el arte gustan también de viajar a lugares remotos, en busca de paisajes soñados.

Y aquí estoy, en plena Patagonia Norte, en un hotel que alberga una sala de exposiciones que tal vez no sea el principal atractivo del lugar pero que llamó mi atención porque de inmediato pensé que si el dueño de este lugar es amante del arte, seguramente habría es-cogido un maravilloso lugar de fondo y sobre él habría ideado cada elemento para com-pletar un cuadro perfecto inspirado en la na-turaleza. Lo logró, me refiero a la Hacienda Tres Lagos, inserta en un paisaje de belleza cautivante, en medio de tres lagos a los que rinde homenaje su nombre.

For centuries, nature has served as a source of inspiration for artists. These ar-tists have used different techniques and co-lors to depict landscapes, filling the walls of homes and galleries with beauty. They create static images that we look at simply because we enjoy them.

Art is one of the disciplines that most stu-dies the concept of beauty, trying to define it for some is subjective and for others logical and mathematical. For the latter, beauty has to do with harmony of shapes and can be translated into a number or golden ratio that can be found in nature. This is where it all begins. Nature itself is beautiful and perhaps for this reason all those who love art also enjoy travelling to remote locations in search of amazing landscapes.And here we are, in the middle of northern Patagonia, in a hotel with its own exhibi-tion hall that may not be the main attrac-tion around these parts but that caught my attention. I immediately thought that if the owner of this place is an art lover, then su-rely he will have chosen a marvelous place as a background. As for the foreground, he will have decided on each element neces-sary to complete the perfect image inspired in nature. And he did! I’m referring to Ha-cienda Tres Lagos, located in the midst of a stunningly beautiful landscape and named in honor of the three surrounding lakes.

El Lago General Carrera es uno de ellos, y en nuestro primer día en la Hacienda te-nemos organizado un recorrido en el Gor-beano para conocerlo. El Gorbeano es una embarcación diseñada especialmente para la travesía del Lago General Carrera y Ber-trand, lagos que invitan a la pesca siendo una de las disciplinas que más se practica en la zona. Son las 10 de la mañana y parti-mos, nos acompaña un guía, un chofer y un chef, quienes llevan todo lo indispensable para disfrutar el día en el lago. El sol bri-lla mientras navegamos, truchas de gran tamaño nadan a nuestro alrededor, tiramos caña pero sin suerte, el guía nos dice que están poniendo huevos y por eso no pican el anzuelo. Este lago de origen glaciar es el más grande de Chile y el segundo de Suda-mérica al compartirlo con Argentina donde se denomina Lago Buenos Aires. Desem-barcamos en la “Playa Blanca”, solos, el único sonido es el del carrete de hilo de la caña que hace un zumbido al lanzar, nuestro guía nos enseña, mientras el chef prepara corvina, una mesa de camping se monta en la orilla para almorzar, esto es lujo, el lujo de lo simple, el lujo de estar en medio de la nada con una atención de primer nivel.

Lake General Carrera is one of them. On our first day at Hacienda, we take a boat tour on El Gorbeano in order to see it. El Gorbeano is one boat that was especially designed for navigation on Lakes General Carrera and Bertrand. These lakes are great for fishing, which happens to be one of the area’s most popular activities. We start out at 10 am, accompanied by a guide, a chauffeur and a chef, carrying with them everything nee-ded to enjoy a day on the lake. The sun is shining, and as we tour the lake, large trout fish swim next to the boat. We cast a line but no luck. The guide informs us that they are laying eggs and for this reason are not bi-ting. This glacial lake is Chile’s largest and the second largest in South America. It is so large that part of it belongs to Argentina where it is called Lake Buenos Aires. We di-sembark on “Playa Blanca”, where we are completely alone. The only sound we hear is the fishing line that buzzes as we cast it. Our guide teaches us to fish while the chef prepares sea bass. A camping table is set up on the shore for us to have lunch. Now this is luxury! It is simple luxury, the luxury of being in the middle of nowhere, yet recei-ving first-class service.

De vuelta en la Hacienda descansamos un rato y recorremos el lugar para conocer sus instalaciones, sala de juegos con mesa de pool y bar, un quincho cerrado, sala de arte, hot tubs y jacuzzi a orilla del lago; y para dormir, suites, cabañas y bungallows para dos personas.

Amanece y nos preparamos para partir a las Cavernas de Mármol, el mayor de los atracti-vos turísticos de la zona, y una de las razones de nuestro viaje. 10 minutos de navegación en un bote a motor y divisamos la Capilla de Mármol, una gran roca esculpida por el viento y el agua, el blanco del mármol junto al brillo del sol y el color turquesa del agua hacen que la luz refleje en su interior crean-do una maravillosa obra de la naturaleza. Me recuerda a la Grotta Azzurra en Capri, Italia, y el guía me dice que ésta junto con la italia-na son los únicos dos lugares en el mundo donde ocurre este particular y maravilloso fenómeno. Nos bajamos en la Capilla, ca-minamos sobre el interior de la piedra entre ventanas que dan al mar. Avanzamos un poco más en el bote hasta la Catedral y las Caver-nas, las recorremos en su interior, esta vez, las fotografías dicen más que las palabras.

Back at Hacienda, we take time to rest and walk around the facilities, game room with a pool table and bar, an indoor barbeque pit, art gallery, hot tubs and jacuzzi on the shore of the lake. For sleeping, there are suites, cabins and bungalows for two.

The sun rises and we prepare for our visit to the Marble Caves, the area’s main tou-rist attraction, and one of the top reasons for our trip. After just a 10-minute ride in a motorboat, we spot the Marble Cathedral, a large rock sculpted by wind and water. The white marble shining in the sun and the surrounding blue turquoise water causes a reflection inside the cave that creates a beautiful, natural work of art. It reminds me of the Grotta Azzurra in Capri, Italy. The guide tells me that together with the Italian version, these are the only two places in the world where this particular phenomenon occurs. We disembark at the Cathedral and walk inside the rock among natural “win-dows” overlooking the ocean. We advance a little further in the boat until we reach the Cathedral and the Caves, where we tour inside. This time, the pictures are worth a million words.

Seguimos nuestra ruta hacia el Glaciar Ex-ploradores, haciendo un alto para almorzar, nuevamente el chef nos acompaña, a orillas del río y con vista hacia el glaciar, nuestro destino final de hoy. El camino es largo y sinuoso, finalmente llegamos, un sendero nos conduce al mirador desde donde se obtiene una vista privilegiada del glaciar, puerta de entrada a Campos de Hielo Norte.

Mientras recorremos los increíbles para-jes de la Patagonia Norte, en la Hacienda preparan la cena, platos de cuidada prepa-ración, de cocción lenta que sin presumir seducen con la calidad de sus productos, típicos de la zona y el talento de los chef y su exquisita gastronomía.

Un nuevo día comienza y tenemos prepa-rada una excursión a la Reserva Nacional Tamango, nos dirigimos en dirección a Cochrane para comenzar a bordear el Rio Baker hasta llegar a la confluencia con el Río Nef, una parada obligada para admirar la fuerza de la naturaleza, el momento y lu-gar donde chocan las caudalosas aguas del Baker con el Nef produciendo un salto de agua que magnifica aún más el color azul de sus aguas.

We continue our route towards the Explora-dores Glacier, with a break in the middle for lunch. Again, our chef is with us, on the bank of the river and with a view of the glacier. It’s our final destination today. The trail is long and winding, but finally we arrive. Another trail leads us to the lookout from where you can see an amazing view of the glacier, the gateway to the Northern Ice Fields.

As we tour the incredible landscapes of nor-thern Patagonia, back at Hacienda they are preparing our dinner. The well-prepared dis-hes, slow cooked, are not overly fancy. Instead they seduce merely with the quality of their in-gredients, grown locally and perfected by the talent of the chef and his delicious recipes.

A new day begins and we have an excursion planned to Tamango National Reserve. We head towards the city of Cochrane where we follow River Baker until we arrive at its confluence with River Nef. Here we have to make a stop in order to admire the sheer force of nature, the moment and place whe-re the mighty waters of the Baker collide with those of the Nef producing a waterfall whose stunning color is even bluer than that of the two rivers.

Más tarde embarcamos en un bote de made-ra para bordear el Parque Nacional Taman-go, la idea es avistar huemules que bajan a beber agua del río. La Reserva Nacional Ta-mango es hábitat de nuestro animal patrio, protagonista del escudo nacional y que hoy se encuentra en peligro de extinción, lograr ver uno es una hazaña, esta vez nos vamos sin suerte pero felices de haber vivido un día extraordinario que incluyó además un ex-quisito asado y un poco de pesca.Así termina nuestra estadía en Hacienda Tres Lagos, y nos despedimos de este mági-co lugar, su paradisiaco entorno y de todos quienes trabajan aquí, entregando calidez y una atención amable y personalizada. Les dejamos algunas fotografías, intentan-do hacer justicia a paisajes y colores que parecen irreales, buscando la instantánea perfecta a una imagen tan bella que resulta imposible capturar con una cámara. Aho-ra entiendo al pintor, que puede escoger el color preciso para poner sobre la tela, que puede dar intención a cada trazo y expre-sar la energía y el sentimiento en su obra. Porque no basta con admirar la belleza de un paisaje, hay que vivirlo, y este verano les recomendamos venir aquí, a la Patagonia Norte y vivir una maravillosa experiencia en la Hacienda Tres Lagos.

Later we set off on a wooden boat to sail along the coast of Tamango National Park. We are trying to spot Andean deer that come to the river to drink. Tamango Natio-nal Reserve is the habitat of this little deer appearing on Chile’s national emblem and which today is in danger of extinction. It’s very rare to see one in the wild. Although we didn’t spot one this time, we left happy to have had a fantastic day, one that included a delicious cookout and a little fishing.And thus our stay at Hacienda Tres Lagos comes to an end. We bid farewell to this magical place, its paradisiacal surroun-dings and all the staff who hosted us so at-tentively and so kindly. The new chef, Cristian Schwuger (Noso and Terraza) under the supervision of the renowned Jean Paul Bondoux, has launched a new menu inspired in Mediterranean flavors. Fresh oysters in sherry vinegar, ceviche in ginger sauce, abalone, and salmon and beef carpaccio are some of the favorites! Bee Solar, emprendimiento liderado por Francisco Urra, obtuvo el Primer Lugar del premio Vuela Alto 2014 otorgado por Pisco Alto del Carmen, que en su cuarta versión, valoró diferentes proyectos ligados a ener-gía y sustentabilidad, y les concedió un in-centivo económico para que continúen con-solidándose. La ceremonia de premiación se realizó en una jornada de celebración y fiesta en el remozado Teatro Huemul del tradicional Barrio Franklin. El segundo lu-gar recayó en Biogusto, iniciativa represen-tada por Valentina Montenegro, y el tercer lugar fue obtenido por Water Light, proyecto de innovación desarrollado por alumnos de la Escuela de Ingeniería Civil Industrial de la Universidad de Valparaíso. La actividad fue encabezada por Benjamín Vicuña, actor y embajador de Alto del Carmen, quien acom-pañó a los participantes de Vuela Alto 2014.

Bee Solar, a startup led by Francisco Urra, won first place in the Vuela Alto 2014 contest held by Pisco Alto del Carmen. In its four-th year, the competition evaluated different projects related to energy and sustainabili-ty, in order to provide them with economic support so they could continue their develo-pment. The award ceremony took place as part of an evening of celebration in the newly renovated Teatro Huemul located in the traditional Franklin neighborhood. Second place went to Biogusto, a project started by Valentina Montenegro, and third place was awarded to Water Light, an innovative project carried out by college students at the Industrial and Civil Engineering School of the Universidad de Valparaiso. Actor and Alto del Carmen spokesperson Benjamín Vi-cuña hosted the event and accompanied the contestants of Vuela Alto 2014.

2 OZ ADC TEOM 5 cc Vermouth Dry Aroma de piel de limónBitter grapefruit

PREPARACIÓN:

En un vaso mezclador agregar la medida de pisco, luego la medida de Vermouth, agregar hielo cubo hasta que doble la cantidad de líquido y refrescar con una cucharilla de bar en una copa de cocktail previamente fría dejar caer esencia de la piel de un limón, agregar el Bitter y servir la mezcla fría en la copa.

INGREDIENTS:

2 OZ ADC TEOM5 cc Dry Vermouth Lemon zest

Grapefruit bitters

PREPARATION:

In a shaker cup, add pisco, Vermouth, and ice cubes until level of liquid dou-bles. Stir with a bar spoon in a chilled cocktail glass. Add lemon peel zest, add bitters and serve cold in chilled glass.

ALTO MARTINI

INGREDIENTES:

1 ½ oz TEOM1 oz jugo de pomelo½ oz syrup½ oz Vermouth Rosso

10 cc Campari

PREPARACIÓN:

Agregar todos los ingredientes en una cocte-lera con hielo en cubo, batir enérgicamente y servir en un vaso rock con hielo, decorar con murtilla y naranja.

INGREDIENTS:

1 ½ oz TEOM1 oz grapefruit juice½ oz syrup½ oz Vermouth Rosso

10 cc Campari

PREPARATION:

Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes, shake well and serve in a rocks glass with ice, decorate with cranberry and orange slice.

Y para los amantes de la adrenalina, Marina Golf Rapel imparte clases de Flyboard y Hoverboard, la última novedad en deportes extremos acuáticos a cargo del instructor Alberto Feldman de Flyboard Chile By MGR. Como es costumbre, para recomendarlo pri-mero debemos probarlo, es así como partimos a probar el Flyboard, apagamos computadores, cerramos la oficina y en 2 horas estábamos en el lago listas para entrar al agua previa charla del instructor. Lo pasamos genial in-tentando volar sobre el lago en una tabla con una manguera de 18 metros, conectada a una moto de agua y con la propulsión de ésta se puede volar verticalmente hasta 12 metros de altura. Apenas logramos elevarnos un metro en nuestra primera sesión, pero seguro lo-graremos los 12 metros este verano, cuando volvamos para seguir con la emoción de este entretenido deporte acuático.

As always, in order to recommend it, first we have to try it! So, we shutdown our computers, close the office and in 2 hours we’re at the lake and ready to get in after an introductory flyboard lesson from the ins-tructor. We have a great time trying to fly over the lake on a board with an 18-meter hose connected to a jet ski. Propelled by the latter, board riders can reach verticals as high as 12 meters in the air. Although we only manage to get a meter off the water in our first session, we’re sure we can reach 12 meters sometime this summer when we re-turn to enjoy the excitement of this fun new water sport.

El resultado, fue un éxito visible en el Centro Cultural de La Moneda en un montaje que se extendió del 10 al 23 de noviembre.

Vanguardia Mistral has continuously evolved over the last four years, exhibi-ting different platforms before a public that has had the pleasure to observe sculpture, photography, large-scale art and finally, in 2014, audiovisual material. This year, Pisco Mistral commissioned the work of German Bobe, renowned multidisciplinary artist who, in a comple-tely eclectic style, was able to unite the efforts of seven talented artists of all di-fferent ages and styles. The result was a complete success and on display at Cen-tro Cultural de La Moneda from Novem-ber 10th to the 23rd.

La indicación es que des-pués de las dos medidas, rellenemos con manzana hasta la superficie. Acá disfruta-mos por primera vez de un pisco que en nariz establece puentes de armonía con este fruto, de marcadas notas cítricas, a manzana co-cida y flor de azahar. En boca tiene un inicio envolvente, oleoso, de sabor suave y elegante producto de su uva Moscatel de final largo y mineral. We begin with a cocktail by mixing 60cc of Horcon Quemado 35º, aged for a year in American Oak barrels, together with apple juice, preferably fresh apple juice. The reci-pe says, after adding the two parts of pisco, fill the glass with apple juice. Now for the first time we can enjoy a pisco that on nose creates harmony bridges with this fruit. It has strong citric notes, of baked apple and orange blossom. In mouth, it has a viscous, coating sensation followed by a smooth, elegant flavor, product of the Muscat grape, and a long, mineral finish.

Behind the bar, our sommelier, Claudia Ol-medo, shows us another of the charms of this pisco and its different variations with a drink called the “Chilcano”. This cocktail requires 2 ½ parts Horcon Quemado 40º aged 2 years, ½ part lemon juice, a touch of

Finally, there’s the grand finale; Horcon Quemado 43º aged 20 years. “Drink simply on the rocks or straight up”, they suggest, and we obey. Thus we experience its taste at its purest.

This concludes our pairing of Horcon Que-mado, a pisco that generation after genera-tion has preserved the secrets of its flavor. Without a doubt, it is a key player in the his-tory of Chilean pisco, a product that makes this country proud.

Viña Montes - renowned for its 25 years of innovation- has launched the Montes Alpha “Dry Farming” line, a pioneer wine research project in Chile promising sustainability by means of using rainwater and the positive effect it has on reducing its water footprint. Re-cently, an event was held at Renaissance Hotel Santiago, exclusively for specialized press, at which the historic vineyard presented its new Montes Alpha “Dry Farming” line, together with a special menu created by Chef Mariano Cid. The “Dry Farming” line – the only one in Chile– is the result of a successful study that was able to reduce vineyard water consump-tion by wisely using rainwater, and its impact on the vines, as a natural watering source (compensating those cases where watering was insufficient). The study revealed that less watering produces higher quality grapes, and a riper fruit that is more flavorful in mouth. Tastings of the Montes Alpha Merlot, Syrah, Carmenere, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 and 2012 harvests are proof of such.

Al recorrer los viñedos sin siquiera llegar todavía al hotel se siente un entorno que in-vita a formar parte de la cultura y tradicio-nes que rodea el mundo del vino.De inmediato somos recibidos amablemente por la gente que trabaja en el hotel que se ofrece a llevar el equipaje, y sin más nos dis-ponemos a recorrer de inmediato el lugar, entusiasmados por descubrir la belleza del entorno que incluye cancha de tenis, piscina, quincho y juegos para niños. Es un ambien-te de absoluta tranquilidad y armonía donde destacan los enormes álamos que se mue-ven con la brisa característica de la zona.

Para los que no conocen “House Casa del Vino”, se trata de un centro de enoturismo que se divide en tres espacios: tienda gour-met, restaurante y una bodega de vinos. Dicho esto, vamos con el cuento que nos convoca.En un comienzo en esta bodega solo se po-día conocer el proceso de Tiraziš, un syrah de Casablanca. Pero era solo el comienzo. El segundo vino estuvo a cargo de la enólo-ga residente y fue Despechado, un fresco pi-not noir. Así nació la bodega-taller. Hoy con-viven, además de estos dos vinos, Malmau, Bestiario, Aterciopleado, Creole y El Gran Petit, todos elaborados por los enólogos de Grupo Belén.Un lugar que comenzó como una bodega para conocer el proceso del vino se trans-formó en un laboratorio donde nacen vinos de culto, que escapan a las lógicas del mer-cado, tienen mística y se elaboran a mano.

For those who have not been to ‘House Casa del Vino’, it’s an enotourism center comprised of three parts: a gourmet shop, a restaurant, and a wine cellar. With that being said, let’s cut to the chase.At first, this cellar only featured the wine-making process of Tiraziš, a Casablanca syrah. But that was just the beginning. The second wine made by the resident wi-nemaker was Despechado, a fresh pinot noir. Thus the cellar-workshop concept was born. In addition to these two wines, today there are wines such as Malmau, Bestiario, Aterciopleado, Creole and El Gran Petit, all crafted by Grupo Belén winemakers. What once began as a cellar used to show guests the winemaking process became a laboratory where fine wines are born, wines that are mystic, that do not follow market logic and are hand crafted.

El último fin de semana de enero y los primeros tres de febrero se realizarán los “Encuentros Mu-sicales de las Rocas de Santo Domingo”, que adicionalmente celebran su aniversario número 30. Chuquicamata es la mina de cobre a tajo abierto más grande del planeta. A 16 kilóme-tros de Calama ya es posible incorporarla a nuestro itinerario gracias al tour gratuito que organiza Codelco. La visita oficial – que debe hacerse con vestimenta apropiada (zapatos cerrados, pantalones y manga larga)- consis-te en un completo recorrido por el yacimiento, laberintos, recovecos y por supuesto, por su asombrosa puesta en el desierto. La expe-riencia contempla el que fue campamento de los avezados mineros – hoy instalados en Ca-lama – y su Mirador, del que se aprecian las colosales faenas de esta mina aún operativa. Se recomienda además portar anteojos de sol, agua y bloqueador.

Chuquicamata is the world’s largest open-pit copper mine. Located just 16 ki-lometers (10 miles) from Calama, you can now add it to your Things-To-Do list when in Chile thanks to a free tour offered by Codelco. The official visit consists of a com-plete tour of the deposit, its labyrinths, its special nooks and crannies and, of course, its amazing desert setting. This experience also includes a visit to the Camp once in-habited by miners – who are now located Calama – and the Lookout, from where you can see the colossal facilities of this mine still in operation today. Pisco Mistral vuelve a contribuir en la cartele-ra cultural nacional. En esta oportunidad en Pis-co Elqui, sede de la Destilería Pisco Mistral, en la que por sexta vez consecutiva organiza “Mis-tral en Concierto”, presentaciones musicales que han tenido como telón de fondo las estrellas de este mágico rincón de la IV región. Los invi-tados de este año son Los Jaivas y su recordado álbum “Alturas de Machu Pichu” que de manera exclusiva y gratuita, actuarán el 31 de enero con la expectativa de recibir alrededor de ocho mil asistentes que se darán cita en la cancha de fút-bol de Pisco de Elqui. Pisco Mistral continues to contribu-te to the national cultural scene. On this occassion, the event takes place in Pisco Elqui, home to the Pisco Mistral Distillery. It’s the sixth annual “Mistral en Concier-to” which features live music under the stars in this magical part of the 4th Re-gion. Musical guests this year include Los Jaivas, with their famous album “Alturas de Machu Pichu”, who on January 31st will give a free concert to a crowd of some 8,000 people at the Pisco Elqui Soccer Stadium. Hace un tiempo leí un artículo titulado “back to basics” y que hablaba de una nue-va tendencia entre los ejecutivos exitosos en todo el mundo. A esta retirada, desconocida y asombrosa bahía de aguas transparentes y azuladas pertene-ciente al Parque Tantauco, en la Isla Grande de Chiloé, sólo podemos ingresar por sen-deros de difícil acceso. Caleta Zorra les da la bienvenida a sus visitantes con un paisaje de extrema belleza y en algunas ocasiones del año, con la presencia de ballenas jorobadas y azules. La ruta sugerida para trekking es desde Chaiguata hasta cerro Pirámide, don-de existe una vía para Caleta Zorra, pasando por la laguna Emerenciana. Todo entre hu-medales, lagunas y una cordillera cubierta de bosques autóctonos.

Caleta Zorra is for those with a true adventurous spirit. This remote, little known, yet amazing bay of crystal blue water belongs to Parque Tantauco, on the main island of Chiloe. Crossing the Gulf of Chiloe is an epic expe-rience in itself, and when done Chiloe-style, it becomes a magical adventure. With this wish we board the Alba Luxury Motor Yacht. Si les pidiera describir un lugar paradi-siaco seguramente comenzarían por aguas tranquilas de un azul profundo, considera-rían también la existencia de bosques, cas-cadas, incluyendo frases como “en medio de la nada”, donde el silencio se interrumpe con el cantar de las aves, un lugar donde respirar aire puro, beber agua de vertiente, y si a todo esto sumamos aguas termales que emergen de la tierra a altas temperatu-ras llenando piscinas naturales que se pue-dan disfrutar las 24 horas del día, nuestro paraíso en la tierra sería perfecto.

INGREDIENTES:

60 cc de Pisco El Gobernador.

20 cc reducción de cítricos al Earl Grey.

2 rodajitas de pepino verde.

3 gotita de bitter preferido.

Rellenar con tónica o ginger ale.

Aceites esenciales de cáscara de limón.

PREPARACIÓN:

Refrescar una copa de cabernet con cinco cubos de hielo y eliminar el exceso del deshie-lo. Agregar la medida de Pisco El Gobernador en la copa. Incorporar la reducción de cí-tricos al Earl Grey, las láminas de pepino y revolver. Coronar con la gaseosa preferida, las 3 gotitas de bitter y rociar la cáscara de limón por los bordes de la copa y dejar caer dentro.

INGREDIENTS:

60 cc Pisco El Gobernador

20 cc Earl Grey Citrus Blend Tea

2 slices green cucumber

3 drops bitters

Fill to brim with tonic water or ginger ale

Lemon peel oil

PREPARATION:

Chill a red wine glass by adding five ice cubes and then pouring out the melted ice. Pour a portion of Pisco El Gobernador in the glass. Add the Earl Grey Citrus Blend, cucumber slices and stir. Fill with tonic water or ginger ale. Add 3 drops of bitters and rub the lemon peel along the rim of the glass, finally tossing in the peel as a garnish.
