Capital Projects Update

CBE has 31 major capital projects underway: 21 New schools 3 Replacement schools 6 Major modernizations 1 Modular extension

The target date for completion of these projects is between September 2016 and September 2018.

The Board of Trustees continues to name new schools. The following schools have been named:

Eric Harvie School (Tuscany)

Hugh A. Bennett School (Saddle Ridge)

Peter Lougheed School (Saddle Ridge)

William D. Pratt School (Rocky Ridge/Royal Oak)

Marshall Springs School (Evergreen)

McKenzie Highlands School (McKenzie Towne)

Dr. Martha Cohen School (New Brighton/Copperfield)

Nelson Mandela High School (North East Calgary)

January 2014 Project Announcements

Aboriginal Learning Centre (Harold W. Riley School) Construction is currently behind schedule. Delivery of structural steel was delayed and is scheduled for delivery and erection in November. Masonry installation is 50% complete in the gym area. Slab on grade installation is 80% complete.

Christine Meikle School – Construction remains on schedule. Structural steel is complete in the south wing. Decking and installation has begun in the south wing and masonry shear walls have commenced. Basement foundation walls are complete.

January 2014 Project Announcements

Bowness HS Modernization –Foundations are complete and some concrete elements such as stairs and elevator shafts are being cast. Structural steel arrival and installation to commence in November. Construction progress is slightly behind schedule.

Jack James HS Modernization – Structural steel and metal decking to Building Trades addition are complete. Structural steel is complete, with interior partitions and mechanical and electrical progressing on the Auto body expansion and modernization. The greenhouse structural steel is in place, with interiors to be completed in early 2016. Exterior concrete and canopies to child care area are being installed. Construction remains on schedule.

February 2014 Project Announcements

Site work has been slowed at Marshall Springs School and Eric Harvie School due to permitting delay issues.

Construction is currently progressing on track at: McKenzie Highlands School, Dr. Martha Cohen School, Buffalo Rubbing Stone School and Auburn Bay Elementary, where it is slightly behind schedule.

Capital Projects Update (#19 & #20)

June 2013 Flood

Elbow Park School – The historic wall restraint work, together with all mass demolition activities has been completed. New foundations and concrete work have commenced. Construction is proceeding with a revised schedule to accommodate delays experienced in restraining the north wall foundations.

Rideau Park School – Flood Mitigation Options have been assessed and it is anticipated that the first phase of construction will commence in the first quarter of 2016.

September 22, 2014 Project Announcements

Site grading and piling is complete and deep service installation is underway at West Springs/Cougar Ridge Middle School and Cranston Middle School. Both projects are on schedule.

Hugh A. Bennett School and Dr. Roberta Bondar School – Construction has commenced and is slightly behind schedule on both projects.

September 22, 2014 Project Announcements

A schematic design concept has been developed for the Southeast Calgary High School

A pre-application development permit meeting has been arranged prior to submitting the development permit application to the City

The Provincial Government has approved the full design development and construction of the school which is expected to open in September 2018

October 8, 2014 Project Announcements

Steering committees have been set up and design development will commence immediately for Lord Beaverbrook High School and James Fowler High School with an expected phased completion date for both schools by December 2017.
