Williams Council Member, 45th District, Brooklyn District Of*ice 4517 Avenue D Brooklyn, NY 11203 Dear Councilmember Williams: It is with our sincerest gratitude, that we thank you for contacting our school, P.S. 193, regarding the proposed amendment to the Fiscal Year 2015-2019 Five Year Capital Plan. This announcement came as a pleasant surprise during a time in which our school is thoroughly assessing what our intrinsic needs are to better serve our students in the future. Attached, you will 0ind a list of our proposed major capital repairs and upgrades. We have submitted this list to the School Construction Authority (SCA) through our Community Education Council, as well. However, we would like to take the time to expound on some of these requests in greater detail for you in an attempt to further demonstrate how bene.icial and essential our proposal is to not only our school, but all of the greater Brooklyn community, as well. Our %irst priority, in terms of major capital repairs and upgrades, is the addition of an all-inclusive STEM/Lego- Robotics/Science and Technology wing that will afford us the space and technological advances we need to serve as an even more well-developed, college and career-ready school. In addition, by adding a STEM wing equipped with an elevator, we will increase our on-site resources immensely and will enhance education through exposure to technology, Common Core alignment, rigorous research opportunities, and equal mobility access to students of all ability levels. The proposed wing would also encompass a true, full-size gymnasium (which we currently do not have), space for more technologically-advanced Pre-K classrooms, and the building-wide electrical and low voltage system upgrades necessary for the wing to successfully interact with the remainder of the school building. As you may deduce from the description above, P.S. 193 is dedicated to “educating the whole child” – both inside and outside of the classroom. This credo has not only inspired this proposal, but also the various extracurricular activities we have implemented for our students including trips to Carnegie Hall, Broadway musical experiences, and an empowering motivational speaker series. Essentially, we want our students to aspire to greatness they might have never imagined by heightening exposures and experiences. We know that doing so will enable our students to become leaders of not only our school community, but also the greater Brooklyn community, now and in the future, as well.
