Chef Rod would like to take some space and thank Calvary’s most capable culinary staff: Chef Neil Milburn, Chef PJ Davis, Chef Gordon Herman, Gary Feerick, Tom Dewey, and Scott Smith, the “back of the house” crew. The “front of the house” staff includes Fran Chertos, Bev Smits, Sue Zeil, Hildegard Krusch, Joyce Herman, Thelma Hoogewind, Donna Tiesenga, Adele Ripley, Linda Rossman, and Barb Haan.

These good folks are here, or on call, every Wednesday to serve the average of 425 guests at Wednesday Fellowship Dinner. They volunteer their time, drive to church in all types of weather, sunny or snowy, and serve with warm hearts and

smiles. Chef Rod say’s “the WFD volunteers are the best folks I have ever known, and the best friends I’ve had, thank God for them.”

Chef would further like to thank you, the diners, for your patronage and invite you all back in the fall for some great new menus and more fellow-ship and fun. Or maybe, you might like to become a part of Calvary’s Culinary Team.

WFD features “in house” prepared meals with endless tossed salad and fountain drinks. Come and enjoy a diverse fare of savory proteins and delicious sides, Calvary’s home baked petit pan loaves, and satisfying desserts. For the children, we offer the “heroes” meal, featuring a hot slice of Chef PJ’s homemade pizza squares, or a hot dog and mac-n-cheese for $3. For the “Super Hero” in all of us, we feature an upgrade to two pizza squares or two hot dogs for only $5.

The cost is low: $5 for the featured meal, $3 for the children’s “Hero Meal”, $5 for the “Super Hero Meal” or $15 for family meal (two adult and three hero meals). If children are served the featured meal or the Super Hero meal, the cost is an ad-ditional $2 each.

Calvary’s Library CornerRECOMMENDED READING - Favorite Books From Our Senior Pastor Jim Samra

Same Kind of Different as MeBy: Ron Hall and Denver MooreA dangerous, homeless drifter who grew up picking cotton in virtual slavery, and an upscale art dealer accustomed to the world of Armani and Chanel meet a gutsy woman with a stubborn dream. Gritty with pain and betrayal and brutality, it also shines with an unexpected, life-changing love. (From Jim: fantastic true story about Jesus uniting two very diverse people. Guaranteed to make you cry at the end.)

Evidence Not Seen By: Darlene Deibler RoseNewlywed American missionary Darlene Deibler Rose survived four years in a notorious Japanese prison camp set deep in the jungles of New Guinea. Thinking she was never to see her husband again, Darlene Rose was forced to sign a false confession and face the executioner’s sword, only to be miraculously spared. (From Jim: Amazing true story of missionaries in World War II.)

Turning Points By: Mark A. NollWhat do the destruction of Jerusalem, the Diet of

Worms, the French Revolution, and the Edinburgh Missionary Confer-ence all have in common? According to the leading evangelical histo-rian Mark Noll, they are among a select number of pivotal events in the two-thousand-year history of Christianity. (From Jim: A fantastic read about church history.)

Other Favorites:With Christ in the School of Prayer by Andrew Murray(From Jim: One of the best books on prayer ever written)

The Story of Christianity by Justo Gonzales(From Jim: Great read on church history.)

Living by the Book by Howard Hendricks(From Jim: Best introduction on how to study the Bible. Loved it.)

The Color of Water by James McBride(From Jim: Powerful true story about a black man and his white mother.)

Christian Theology by Millard Erickson(From Jim: I loved reading this theology book.)

Bringing Up Boys by James Dobson(From Jim: Great book for raising boys.)

The Library is located across from Fellowship Hall on the lower level. Our hours are: Sunday 9:15–11:15am and 5:15–5:45pm, Wednesday 9:15–9:45am and 6:00–7:30pm, Saturday 7:00 – 7:30pm. Also visit us on the web at [email protected] and email us your requests.

On behalf of Calvary Church and our community pantry, we send our gratitude to all those who participated in our food drive last month. Your generosity will keep our shelves full over the next few months. What a blessing it was to receive so much and be able to help feed so many. It doesn’t stop here; please remember to continue giving in the months ahead. Thank you!

We’ll meet in May to discuss highlights of the year, look at our upcoming summer planning, hear from you as parents, and spend time together with other parents. We expect this meeting to last no longer than an hour, and will have some snacks to tie you over until lunch.

It is very common for teens to experience a variety of conflicting emotions during this time. The Gathering PlaceNext fall, Women’s Min-istry will launch a new Bible Study format, The Gathering Place. In The Gathering Place, all the participants of Tuesday morning Bible Study will gather for community and the study of God’s word.

The Gathering Place study will provide new ways for

women at Calvary to fellowship and grow together in God’s Word. Within the large group meeting we will have quality time to catch up with friends and make new ones, be inspired by thought provoking speakers, drama, music and testimonies.

We’ll then break into small groups where we will ac-tively discuss and study God’s word. Next fall we will be studying the book of Matthew, the first book of the New Testament.

We look forward to watching God continue to work in the lives of women at Calvary Church through The Gathering Place; as we journey together in commu-nity, faithfully study God’s word, and glorify God in our lives.

While every group that is a part of The Gathering Place will study the same book of the Bible, each woman will be able to choose the type of small group she would like to be a part of. Registration forms are available at the Information Center and at the reception desk. Contact Elaine Meredith ([email protected]) at ext. 5186 for more information.

Wednesday Morning Bible StudyPlease join Tom Couch as he teaches from Genesis 1-11. Refreshments are served from 9:30-9:50am, and the study begins promptly at 10:00am. This se-ries will end on Wednesday, May 25 for the summer.

News flash! There are no discount character stores! Courage, disci-pline, confidence, patience, endur-ance and contentment are qualities that take a lifetime to acquire. But, God can develop these qualities within us – He has the power to change us. Join us for this exciting time together. Watch God reclaim

these endangered character traits! They are not won in any lottery, but are valuable beyond compare! Registration forms are available at the Information Center and at the reception desk. Contact Elaine Meredith ([email protected]) at ext. 5186 for more information.

REDEEM THE SUMMERCollege Life Format Changing For May & June

College students, in the months of May and June, we will be changing our normal Thursday night format. Instead of meeting together in the Chapel at 7:00pm for teaching and worship, we will be meeting at church in small groups from 7:30-8:30pm.

We will spend time in small groups discussing the previous week’s sermon, looking deeper into the passage, the main points from the message, and how it all applies to our lives. We will also take some time to share about what is happening in our lives and enjoy each other’s company. So come join us in room 121 at 7:30pm on Thursday nights. Contact Andrew ([email protected]) to join a group

College LunchCollege students, join us for lunch on Sunday morn-ings in Room 121 after the third service. Enjoy great food, meet other students, and be encouraged by a devotional and some discussion about the ser-mon. Friends and family are welcome to come as well. See you there!

Merge Book ClubSunday, May 22, 12:45pm, Yellow House

This month Merge will gather at the Yellow House to discuss the book Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream by David Platt. In Radical, David Platt challenges us to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our

cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actu-ally said about being His disciple--then invites us to believe and obey what you have heard. Join us for an encouraging discussion lead by Bruce Huseby. Sign up on Sundays, books are $8.00.

FoundationsFoundations is a community of young married couples (ages 22-32) that meets on Sunday mornings at 11:15am in Room 125. We have a mix of sermon-based discus-sions, specific teachings on marriage issues, and general topics for our Christian lives.

The Stories You Didn't Hear in Sunday SchoolJoin us this Spring on Sunday mornings as we contin-ue studying some of the most difficult stories the Bible has to offer, including: Jonah’s hatred of other nations, David’s mistake which killed 70,000 men, how Moses disqualified himself from the promised land, and others.

Sunday Lunch, Sunday, May 1, 12:30, Room 125Join other young married couples for conversation and great food. If you’re interested in contributing to the meal, catch the sign-up sheet on Sunday mornings or contact JP Gaylord ([email protected]).

Young Couples Community GroupsThese groups meet bi-weekly in homes throughout the Grand Rapids area. Be transformed in community with others through prayer and discussion of important top-ics. Contact JP Gaylord ([email protected]) to find the right group for you. Groups meet throughout the week.

WEDNESDAY TOPICS

Confident CaregiversConfident Caregivers of West Michigan is a monthly sup-port group for sharing needs, questions, answers and en-couragement. Each month, we invite a knowledgeable person on a related subject to be our facilitator. Please join us on May 16, for “Stress Reduction and the Joy of Caregiving” presented by Holland Home. The meetings are held in room 123 from 11:30am-1:00pm. R.S.V.P. by May 12 to Regina ([email protected]) at 956-9377, ext. 3672.

Mental Illness Family Support Group In March, we saw the video "Open Spaces" showing sev-eral local "consumers" who have progressed in regaining control of their lives. Recovery, where you are in control of your illness and life, is becoming more common. The new-er medications, and perhaps more important, the newer approach to therapy, is helping many persons achieve this. We will talk about these approaches on Tuesday, May 24, at 7:00pm in room 114. Contact John or Betty Walker at 956-6141.

CheraPlease join us for a special time of fellowship with the Calvary Board Members at our Chera Spring Brunch on Saturday, May 21. Our special guest speaker will be Patty McGinnis and we will also enjoy music by Men of Faith. Chera is a sup-port group designed to reach out with the com-fort found in Jesus Christ to those who have lost spouses.

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

2 Corinthians 8:9

People give for lots of reasons: a worthy cause, an emotional appeal, the good ex-ample of someone else, peer pressure, tax benefits, a guilty conscience, public recog-nition, seasons tickets to college athletic events, a DVD recording of Celtic music, or maybe even a compelling sermon. But the greatest motivation for giving is simply Jesus. We learn four important principles from his generous act of grace.

Grace Giving Proves Your LovePaul starts his appeal by making an un-comfortable comparison, “i want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others” (2 Corin-thians 8:8). When Jesus dined with simon the Pharisee, a sinful women came and washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, anointed his head with oil, and poured perfumed on his feet. simon was appalled at her expression of love. But Jesus responded with the parable of the two debtors — one

who owed a little and one who owed a lot. simon clearly understood the parable. The one who had the bigger debt canceled would love the master more. he had been stingy with Jesus, but the woman’s generos-ity demonstrated her deep love for Christ (Luke 7:36-50). our generosity, or lack thereof, reflects how much we love Jesus.

Grace Giving Puts True Wealth in PerspectiveWe don’t often think of Jesus as rich. in-stead, we remember his humble birth, the fact that he had no place to lay his head, or that he was buried in a borrowed tomb. But before the manger, Jesus enjoyed the riches of heaven as he dwelled with the Father in perfect equality and unity. We read about the streets of gold, the walls decorated with precious stones, and his throne surrounded by a rainbow. and yet, he willingly laid aside all his privileges because he valued us more. if we view our wealth from an eternal perspective, we will value people more than things.

Grace Giving Requires SacrificeWhen David wanted to purchase the threshing floor for the new temple, the owner pleaded with him to take the land as a gift. But David responded, “no, i insist on paying the full price. i will not take for the LorD what is yours, or sacrifice a

burnt offering that costs me nothing.” (1 Chronicles 21:24). it’s easy to give away someone else’s money, but God asks us give our hearts first and then what we have. Jesus is the ultimate example of personal sacrifice. Christ made him-self nothing. “he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:8). a gift without sacrifice is really no gift at all.

Grace Giving Produces Eternal ResultsJesus gave up the riches of heaven so that we could become rich beyond measure — not monetarily, but spiritually. Paul de-scribes this gift as “the incomparable riches of his grace” (Ephesians 2:7), and “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8). he sacrificed his life for our eternal benefit. We follow Christ’s example of generosity when we give so that others can hear the message of grace. in a sense, our sacrifice to “become poor,” enables others to become “rich” with the Gospel.

What do you value more? riches now, or eternal riches?

We are heading out to serve our community by going to the David’s House Ministry. We will help them get ready for the summer by doing their landscap-ing (planting flowers, spreading wood chips, spreading mulch, etc). We’ll end the morning by eating lunch with their community members. It’s a fun day for all and a great way to serve.

*This service project is open to all high schools students but is a requirement for those headed to Marvell or Poland.

Special Needs MinistryI am often asked, “What is the biggest need of the Special Needs Ministry at Calvary Church?”

My answer is always the same “TRANSPORTATION.” Our Special Needs Ministry serves adults who have very limited options to get from here to there. This people group is dependent on public transportation (when avail-able, if it services their area and if they can afford it), their private group home transportation (if it exists), or a service like Hope Network (if avail-able and if they qualify).

Usually transportation is provided to the Special Needs community for only basic needs: to work and back or a doctor visit. Transportation is based only on basic needs, and usually has nothing to do with what an individual wants or would like to do. Can you imagine a life that restricted your mobil-ity to home, work, and doctor? I cannot! That is why we at Calvary invest in providing transportation to our special needs community so that they can come to church. We provide limited transportation to a few on Sunday morning through a contract with Hope Network, and we purchase a supply of tickets for public transportation on the Go Bus. We also provide transpor-tation through Hope Network on an “as needed basis” for those in the special needs community who desire to come to our monthly Praise and Worship service the third Saturday of every month. But the funding and resources for this are limited.

But there is more to the story than just creating an option for people to “get out of the house!” Our Sunday morning Special Needs adult class (Go-Getters for Jesus) recently completed a mini-series of lessons focusing on the ordinances of communion and baptism. We also discussed church membership. Twenty-six members of the class have come forward indicating the desire to pursue baptism and membership! Many in the class desire to be more obedient and seek further the kingdom of God. I take this as a testimony to the desire of this people group to come to church if they could just get here. A section of verses in Romans 10 comes to mind when I think on the response of our class to hearing the word when they have the opportunity to be present in order to hear! These verses speak of the need for laborers and the blessed feet of those who go. For the

Special Needs Adult Ministry I would add this thought to these verses and say, “How can they hear if they cannot be present? How can they be present if they have no means to come?”

Would you please join me in presenting praise to God for those we have been able to reach, and to seek His guid-ance in how we can expand our outreach to the others in our Special Needs community who desire to become a part of the body of believers? - Marv Snedeker, Director of Special Needs Ministry

Calvary Church’s commitment to missions and outreach is more than a pro-

gram; it reflects the heart of God to see His glory declared among all people

- here in our community and around the world.

The world continues to change rapidly, and the nations are now coming to

our community. In this way, we now have access to people groups we never

thought possible. At the same time, the vast majority of the unreached

world has closed the door to traditional missionary work. However, the

truth of the Gospel has not changed. This requires that we consider new

and different ways to carry out his mandate “to go and make disciples.”

This year’s missions’ conference, “Planting Seeds,” is about you and about

me. It is an opportunity for us all to better understand how we can use our

skills, abilities, and desires to engage in sharing the truth of the Gospel in

different settings — both locally and globally.

I encourage you to be praying for God to use this event to challenge each

one of us to become more engaged in God’s mission. Check out the en-

closed schedule and consider which events God might be prompting you

to attend. Our prayer is for everyone at Calvary to see how God has called

them to be planting seeds for His kingdom.

Serving Him together with you,

Jim Samra, Senior Pastor

Mission:Youserving God with the skills you already have

You are skilled at something. May-be it’s art. Or teaching. Or business. Whatever it is, you could very well think that it doesn’t have anything to do with missions. Think again.

Join us for a panel discussion (Sunday, March 20) and workshops (Tuesday, March 22) with profes-sionals from various walks of life who are using their vocations to impact the world for Christ.

You have what it takes to plant seeds for Christ. Find out how to put it into action.

See the schedule on pages D-E for more details.

Sunday Morning Guest Speaker: Paul BorthwickPaul Borthwick serves on the staff of Development Associates International (www.daintl.org), a training group dedicated to the character and ministry development of leaders in the under-resourced world (www.daintl.org). Celebrating the Seeds That Were Plantedat our Missions ConferenceOur Missions Conference this year left us with many challenges – to pray for the nations and people of the world; and to go, using the skills and experiences God has given us. If you are looking for ways to get involved, please consider the following suggestions.

Operation WorldThis exhaustive reference book is available through the Missions and Outreach Department to provide a systematic and informed plan to pray for the people of the world. Contact Chris ([email protected]) at ext. 5022 to reserve your copy today.

Third Monday Missionary PrayerEvery third Monday of the month a group meets to uphold our supported workers in prayer. Bring a sack lunch and join us for fellowship at 11:30am in room 207, then stay as we bring these servants before the Lord from 12:00-1:00pm. Come and get better acquainted with our missionaries through updates on their work and family, and be a blessing to them through the power of prayer.

Short-Term MissionsIf the Lord has been tugging at your heart to join one of Calvary’s short term missions trips, now may be the time. There are several trips this summer and fall going to Mozambique, Ukraine, Central Asia, and Poland. Contact the Missions Office, or visit Calvary’s website (calvarygr.org) for more information.

Things I Wish I Knew When I Graduated From High SchoolI wish I knew the importance of Christian community. I started off at a secular school and quickly found out how very important it is to have Christian accountability and com-munity. Because I didn't recognize this initially, I found myself struggling with some sin, and God graciously convicted me of this need, result-ing in me transferring to a Christian school. So please, please get involved in a campus ministry, accountabil-ity group, or Bible Study and find a church!Kelly BoprieHigh School Small Group Leader

I wish I knew how to pump gas... I never wanted to do it and so I didn't have to learn until college... I should have learned earlier :) hehe.Jen HughesHigh School Small Group Leader

Use deodorant and get out of your parents hair. They have had enough of you. Seriously, I graduated from high school 40 years ago this year. Wow, I still remember the two emo-tions that swelled up as I graduated. joy and happiness. For me life truly began after high school. God pro-vided a group of incredible Christian friends at my college who mentored me, loved me and modeled Christ-likeness. Because of them, I realized how much God loved me and set me on a path that I need to love and model Christ to others.

My advice whether you go to college or enter the work force would be to passionately pursue a core of godly friends to lift Jesus high and love you enough to challenge you to live out your faith. As the saying goes; “show me your friends, I’ll show you your future.”Bruce HusebyHigh School Small Group Leader

The importance of being involved in the Church right after High School. I was involved in the High School Youth Group at Calvary Church. However, once I graduated from High School and started going to college, I still attended the Church service, but never got involved in anything beyond that (i.e. Bible study, Sunday School class, college group, serving opportu-nities, etc.). I feel like I wasted several years of my life where God could have been using me.Rodney VeltingHigh School Small Group Leader

That college classes cost a lot of money… no actually I’m glad I didn’t know that, I might not have gone. That flunking college classes and hav-ing to take them over does cost actual money. Yep I do wish I knew that one…That although you can take a nap everyday, you probably shouldn’t.That finding a church and committing to it while in college makes a huge dif-ference in your life. That washing your bedding should be done more than once a semester. That “Friends are friends forever, if the Lord’s the Lord of them” is mostly true. That working at Burger King was bet-ter than working at McDonalds. That deliberately serving others was one of the best things I could do with some of my free time. That in college I would have more free time than any other point in my life. That caring about my relationship with God was more important than anything else I did during my entire college experience.Toran ScottPastor of Students

As we move into Spring, you will soon notice changes on our property along the East Beltline and our front entrance. After two years of meeting with the lead-ership of the church as well as commissions, committees and contractors, we are set to begin construction on a new sign and message center this month.

Our purpose is to better reach the 54,000+ people who drive by Calvary each day with the love of Christ and to

create an inviting and welcoming entrance. We are asking God to use this to help us reach the people He wants us to reach, as Christ’s Church in this place. Due to current regulations, we are no longer able to adver-tise at our front entrance. A message center would enable us to regain this opportunity.

Our approval from the city Planning Commission, for this project, ends in August. Without this approval, our ability to construct the type of sign we hope to construct will be prohibited. We want to make sure we complete the project within this timing.

Funding for this project is made possible through reserves that were set aside for capital improvements. We are grateful that these funds are available and that God has graciously prepared us for this time.

You will start to notice construction in May as we build a temporary mainte-nance shed at the back of the property and clear unwanted trees along the East Beltline frontage. The two residential houses currently on the East Beltline frontage will be removed because they are in bad shape and falling down. This will also make way for new land-scaping work. Construction is expected to continue throughout the summer months.

The new sign (pictured above left) is much larger than our current sign and its message center will allow for three lines of text. This gives us the ability to share Scripture, event details and other information with the many cars that travel past our entrance each day.

For more information on this project, contact [email protected].

For our May “Face to Face” feature, we are sitting down with Shelly Lamport, High School Facilitator, at Calvary Church.

Q: Can you explain what your role as High School Facilitator involves?A: As the High School Facilitator, I have the privilege of working under the leadership of Toran and Jordan. My main focus is

working with all of the high school girls and female leaders. I also help students get involved through serving at Calvary and organize service projects for HSM. My role also involves helping to plan and organize events. In addition, I have mastered shopping in bulk at Sam’s Club for our trips and retreats. I also work closely with Bethann, our Administrative Assistant, helping her when needed. And pretty much anything else I am asked to do.

Q: What does a day in your life look like?A: I really have 2 different types of days. The days I work and the days I am home.

Working in the high school department, no day looks the same. My favorite time of year is the summer when the students are out of school. Then my days are filled with the girls’ summer Bible study and summer events. During the school year I spend a great deal of my time in the office planning events and doing office work and hanging out with students after school. When I am at home my main focus is taking care of my husband, my kids, and our home. We spend many hours of the day playing princess and introducing my two girls so they can “put on a show!”

Name: Shelly Lamport

Hometown: Port Huron, Michigan

Education: Cornerstone University, BS in Psychology and Family Studies

Married: 7 amazing years to Aaron

Children: Gweneth (3), Addison (2), Wyatt (3 months)

Favorite Outdoor Activity: Going to the beach

Favorite Indoor Activity:

Playing games with Aaron, playing with our kids and relaxing on the couch!

Favorite Meal: I recently had to go on a strict Gluten Free diet. Since then I have become very passionate about what I eat. Enjoying it to the fullest! My favorite meal would start with a salad topped with really good runny ranch, a juicy steak with salt and A-1, garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli and it would end with the chocolate thunder from down under from Outback and a fountain coke from McDonalds! Yum!

Perfect Day: On my perfect day my whole family would sleep all night with no interruptions and sleep in until 9:00am. I would make a huge breakfast with lots of bacon (mainly for Aaron and Gwen). Then we would spend the day at the beach playing in the sand, swimming and soaking up the sun. Followed with dinner with friends and family and ending the day sitting on the couch with Aaron watching TV.

Q: How has the way you were raised affected who you are as a Christ-follower today?

A: I am very blessed to have been brought up in a Christian home. My dad was the pastor of our church for the majority of our childhood. We lived in the church parsonage through junior high, which was in the backyard of the church. My siblings and I were always at the church either participating in activities, running through the halls or cleaning! My parents were very influential in my spiritual journey. They instilled in me strong Christian values, taught me the importance of going to church and being a part of the body of Christ all while encouraging me to own my faith. My mom and dad remain wonderful Christian role models in my life today.

Q: Who in particular has had a profound impact on your life?

A: It is difficult to choose one person who has profoundly impacted my life. While attending Cornerstone, I was blessed to have a woman on staff mentor me. Here at Calvary, God has surrounded me with a group of women who have taught me so much about what it looks like to be a Godly wife, mom, and servant of God. However, my husband, Aaron, has impacted my life the most. He is always there to encourage me, believe in me when I don’t believe in myself. Most importantly, Aaron is the spiritual leader in our family always leading me to be more like Christ.

Q: When was a time in your life where you felt like you grew the most?

A: When I think about a time I grew the most three different times come to mind.

The first is my time at Cornerstone. College is a special time of gaining some independence while still being under the care of your parents. During my time at college I really grew into who I was as a person. Owning my faith, learning why I believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior, taking a stance on certain topics, and becoming passionate about things that really touched me.

The second is when Aaron and I got married. Through different opportunities growing up I was able to practice loving others as myself. Once I was married, God really started teaching me what it looks like to love others as I love myself. Learning that every decision, purchase, friendship, etc… now affected not only myself, but also Aaron. Through putting each others needs and desire above our own, I grew tremendously.

The third time I feel like I grew the most is becoming a mom. I remember the first time I held Gweneth I begin to truly understand how much God loves me through the instant and unconditional (as humanly possible) love I felt for my daughter.

Q: How have you grown during your time at Calvary?

A: Four years ago God called me to come work at Calvary Church in the High School Department. I remember talking on the phone to Toran and Jordan about the possibility of me working in HSM. I was so excited, but at the same time overwhelmed and nervous. Ever since I can remember I have been shy. The thought of working in a large youth group was not comforting. However, throughout my time at Calvary, God has shown me that when I am weak, He is strong. God has taught me that if I allow Him to work through me He can do amazing things. Things I would have never done out of fear. God has shown me firsthand how He equips those who are not equipped.

Q: What encourages you most as you look around Calvary Church?

A: When I look around Calvary Church I am encouraged by the numerous ways God has blessed Calvary Church. I am most encouraged by the men and women who God has called to be leaders here at the church. We are blessed with leaders who truly want to be more like Christ, do His work and seek Him in every decision.

I also have had the opportunity to co-lead a high school small group for the past four years. There is nothing more encouraging than being able to watch God shape and mold young girls into Godly young women. This has been one of the greatest blessing while working at the church.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with the congregation?

A: I am so honored that God has called me to take part in helping point the youth of Calvary Church towards Christ. If you are in high school or a parent of a high school student and you do not attend United on Sunday nights. Please come check us out (6:00pm in Room 108)!
