Dear Friends, Today, it finally feels like spring. The trees are budding, the dandelions are blooming, the sun is shining and it’s finally warm enough to leave my coat in the house! We are entering the growing season. In the church, we too are entering the season of growing which we call

Pentecost. On May 19th and 20

th, we will gather and celebrate the giving of the Holy Spirit, not

just to the disciples but to the whole church, and then throughout the rest of the summer we will be called forth to grow in our faith through the power of the Spirit. Of course, growing in or deepening our faith doesn’t happen just by accident. It takes inten-tionality. It takes finding ways to make space for God. It takes consistency. Just as we must water and nourish a flower or plant if we wish it to mature and bloom so too, must we water and nourish our faith. Making space for God takes some discipline. At first it may sound like one more thing you ‘have to do’ in your already hassled life. But as you know, it takes discipline to do anything well, and it is no different with prayer. If we want to grow in our faith, we need to find times to be with God and we need to be in prayer. If you are not sure how to pray, I would highly rec-ommend to you a little book called ‘Learning to Pray Again’ by Michael Rinehart. It’s easy to read with short chapters on different types of prayer practices. If you’d like a copy, look for the sign-up sheet in the narthex or you can download it to your e-reader. Lastly, as you think about making space for God and working on growing in your prayer and faith life this summer, be gentle with yourself. Too often we get down on ourselves when we begin something new and then fail to do it, fail in doing it or feel uncertain in how to do it. Remember, prayer takes time and practice. So be gentle. And make whatever happens a part of your conversation with God. Blessings in this season of growing, Pastor Sheryl

HOSPITALIZED? PLEASE LET US KNOW If you are hospitalized, please contact (or have a friend or family member contact) the church office and let us know so that we can visit and pray with you. Providing pastoral care is an important part of our ministry, however, we cannot visit if we don’t know, so please don’t hesitate to call or email the church office, so that we can be there for you. Thanks! Pastors Sheryl and Chris

REMODELING COMMITTEE UPDATE

The Trustees have continued to be in con-versation with the Insurance Company as well as receiving bids from contractors in regards to work on repairing the exterior of the church, fixing the boiler system, etc. We are hopefully close to repair work be-ginning. The remodeling committee con-sisting of Bill Huelle (representing the trustees), Dawn Holub, Andrea Miller, Lisa Moravec, Lou Kleager and Pastors Chris and Sheryl is at the present time focusing on the bathroom so as to get that availa-ble as soon as possible. They recom-mended to the Trustees that the bathroom be made wheelchair accessible which will entail widening the present door, eliminat-ing the wall and door between the small outer room and the bathroom and in-stalling wheelchair accessible bathroom fixtures. They are in the process of look-ing at possible sinks, cabinets and floor-ing options. They also recommended that the old cry room which had been used for the last several years by the Day Care be converted back to a cry room for use by our young parents.

SECIAL OFFERING FOR OUTSIDE

SANCTUARY DOORS

For a while now the outside front doors have been in need of replacement. The south door no longer stays shut when un-locked and we have periodically had diffi-culties even opening it when unlocked during this past winter. The north door has become increasingly difficult to unlock, with one person’s key cracking while they attempted to relock the door. The doors also do not meet current fire codes or safety standards as you cannot exit them without unlocking them first. Therefore, the Trustees have recently approved the purchase of new outside glass doors for the sanctuary at a cost of approximately $7000. While the Trustees allowed for the cost of the doors in their 2018 budget, we will be taking a special offering throughout the month of May to help pay for the cost of the new doors. Please place any donations for this spe-cial offering appeal in one of the designat-ed offering envelopes or if you give elec-tronically, use the special offering option.
