THE HEROES JOURNEY
The Hunger Games Trilogy vs. Ender’s Game!
• Andrew Wiggins (Ender) is a third, an outsider. Because his older and sister were unable to meet the Governments standards, he was born. He spends much of his time being picked on by his older brother Peter for being an outsider. Ender’s older sister, Valentine, tries to protect him from the scary behavior of his brother but can only do so much for him.
• Katniss Everdeen lives in a world that is constantly controlled by the Capitol. They control there 12 districts by forcing them to reap two children, one boy and one girl, that will enter a game that is fought to the death. Only one is allowed to survive. Katniss silently denies the capitol by crossing into forbidden land to hunt and keep her family alive with Gale Hawthorne.
THE ORDINARY WORLD
The Hunger Games
Ender’s Game
• General Graff comes to Ender’s house one day offering him a chance at Battle School, a school up in space where they teach children how to battle and command fleets against the enemies, the Buggers.
• When Katniss’s little sister, Prim, gets picked Katniss steps forward and volunteers to take Prim’s place as tribute and compete in the games. This is the beginning for what is soon to come for Katniss.
THE CALL TO ADVENTURE
The Hunger Games Ender’s Game
• Ender is unsure on whether to take the offer and risk not seeing his family till he is sixteen. He wonders if he can survive without his family, or if they can survive without them. Ender begins to second guess himself not knowing what to do.
• As Katniss is taken away she gets to minutes with her closest loved ones. In that two minutes she admits to Gale the impossibility of her coming back. Katniss is unsure on whether she can do it or not.
REFUSAL OF THE CALL

• When Graff first comes with the offer is when Ender will meet his mentor. Graff ends up following Ender’s every move making sure that everything plays out exactly the way it should. He will follow Ender through the whole book, very close to Ender at all times.
• Haymitch Abernathy, a drunken washed out tribute is supposed to mentor Peeta and Katniss through the Games. After Peeta’s anger gets the best of him and he slaps the alcohol out of his hand and Katniss stabs a knife into the table centimeters from Haymitch’s pinky. Haymitch realizes that he might actually have some fighters and he promises to coach them as long as they will listen.
MEETING THE MENTOR

• After making his decision Ender is then flown into space on a rocket towards Battle School. It is a whole different world up there. Winning the games up there mean everything. You gain respect, rank, and experience if you win, and if you lose utter shame.
• Ender has entered a game that is made of games!
• After Katniss is whisked away on a train to the Capitol she enters the world of the Games. She meets the spoiled self center residents of the Capitol who dress in strange ways, have way to many resources for their own good, and find a cruel joy in the games.
CROSSING THE THRESHOLD

• Katniss is faced with many challenges through out the three books. First off the other tributes in the arena. In book one her biggest competition in Cato when he threatens to kill Peeta and has already attempted to kill her several, but unsuccessful, times in the arena. In the second book she faces the biggest test of having to go back into the arena, but this time it is against experienced tributes who have played ‘the killing game’ before. Another huge test is she has to find a way to convince the Capitol that all her actions were done because she loved Peeta. In the last book Katniss must face another controlling community but this time not the capitol, but the rebels who want to use her as a pawn.
TEST, ALLIES, ENEMIES
The Hunger Games
Katniss also finds many allies along the way. In book one it is Rue the silent , almost bird like tribute from district 11. In book two her allies come from the tributes inside the arena who’s plan is to get her out alive even if it means risking themselves. In book 3 her allies are slim but are her little sister Prim.
Katniss’s biggest enemies are the two people who tried to control her, President Snow and President Coin. Sure there were all those tributes that tried to murder her along the way but definitely those two top the list.
• Ender is faced with many challenges through out the book. People, games such as head to head battle in the battle room and game simulations, and isolation from everyone else. Other tests come from within himself, when Ender is at his breaking point.
TEST, ALLIES, AND ENEMIES
Enders Game Ender’s allies are his closest friends, people who he met along the way become his ultimate saviors in the end when they help him through the toughest battle in life himself versus the bugger world.
Then Ender finds an ally in the enemy after he destroys what seems to be the bugger world he finds a larva that he has the power to release.
Ender’s most common enemies were the boys who tried to beat up on him: Stiltson and Bonzo. Another one of Ender’s biggest enemies is Peter, the one he could never defeat.
• After Ender has created quite a mess at Battle School, he is sent to Command School to learn how to command his own fleet.
• He is drilled night and day by his new teacher, Major Rackam, and slowly works his way towards the biggest obstacle yet that he must complete to graduate from the school.
• After surviving against all odds Katniss knows there is one more obstacle she must defeat, President Snow. The one who was constantly controlling the games and turned her life upside down.
When war breaks loose between the rebels and the Capitol it’s only a matter of time before she must face him. After rescuing Peeta she sets out on a mission to get to Snow.
APPROACH
The Hunger Games Ender’s Game
• Ender survives his training, and is face with the final challenge, a game simulation he must succeed in to pass….
• Katniss, after the rebels win the war, is given a bow and arrow and given a clear shot at President Snow. They finally stand face to face…..
THE ORDEAL
The Hunger Games Ender’s Game
• Ender goes completely suicidal mission, or so it seems. A bunch of buggers surround the planet. He slowly and painfully makes his way towards the planet losing men constantly. Then as he gets close he blows the planet up destroying the buggers.
• When Katniss is given the bow and arrow she faces Snow. He can smell the poison on his breath and the horrible stench of the roses, then she turns and shoots President Coin in the heart.
THE REWARD
The Hunger GamesEnder’s Game
• After Ender finds out that the challenge he had completed was not a simulator but an actual battle; that he killed hundreds of men but thousands of buggers he tries to cope with the idea but begins to go insane because of the realization of what his actions caused.
• Ender feels he is worse than Peter, he doesn’t make threats he actually kills.
• Katniss is then locked into a room, and she knows that death is around the corner for her treason act.
• So she decides to try to commit suicide figuring it wont make a difference whether she walks out of that room alive, or not.
RESURRECTION
The Hunger Games Ender’s Game
• Ender then heads to a planet further out in space and out of the way of time. He makes the journey with Valentine. Ender begins to try to build a new life and forget the one he had.
• Katniss is sent back home to District 12. Bombed remains and ash surround her but she slowly tries to get back to herself by hunting in the woods trying to find something that can be consistent in her life.
THE ROAD BACK
The Hunger Games Ender’s Game
• While wondering around one day Ender finds a park that looks exactly like it did in the game he played at Battle School. He goes to the mirror where he knows something is hiding and finds the larva of a bugger queen.
• Ender now has the power to rebuild something he has no idea he was destroying and the answer he holds in his very hands!
• Katniss ends up saving the boy with the bread or he saves her. They both seem to balance each others insanity just enough to find a peace together in a grave yard that used to be there home.
• Fifteen years later they both watch as the world is beginning to rebuild its self and their two kids seem to enjoy it, too.
