The English-Speaking Union From the Director-General: Peter Kyle OBE

15 March 2012

Dear Applicant,

Business Development Director

Thank you for your interest in the position of Business Development Director at the

English-Speaking Union. This is a new position and is being introduced at an extremely

important time of change for the ESU.

We are faced with challenging times regarding fundraising and other development

activities. Our position is strong – with over 10,000 members and alumni in England and

Wales supporting our work, we are looking to develop various areas of our business to

ensure the long-term stability and growth of the ESU. However, like most charities, we

are not immune to broader economic circumstances.

To achieve our vision for the future, it is vital that we raise further our profile within the

UK and internationally and identify and develop commercial opportunities and we are

working to enhance or change our communications strategies to engage our audiences

through both traditional and digital media.

The appointed candidate will be pivotal to the development, management and protection

of our business strategy. Forming part of the senior management team, they will work

directly with me and the other directors to take the lead in moving the ESU and its

programme of activities forward. It is an exciting prospect.

The enclosed pack includes the job description, person specification and details on how

to apply for the position.

I very much hope that you will choose to apply for this important role.

My Best Wishes,

THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION
