Estados Unidos, campeón de la Copa Panamericana
Santo Domingo, 14 de julio, 2012.- La selección de Estados Unidos derrotó a la de Argentina en
sets corridos para conquistar la medalla de oro y darle a su país el quinto triunfo en la Copa
Panamericana de Hombres, cuya séptima versión concluyó esta noche en el Palacio del
Voleibol Ricardo Arias de aquí.
Los campeones solo tuvieron contratiempos en el primer parcial, no obstante lo ganaron para
no perder nunca el franco dominio de las acciones en un choque que concluyó con parciales de
29-27, 25-20 y 25-11. Ambos equipos llegaron invictos a la fecha del cierre, la cual para los
sudamericanos resultó su segunda medalla y de plata precisamente en este torneo.
Carson Clark fue el máximo anotador del juego con 19 puntos y su compañero Taylor Sander
agregó 10, en tanto por sus adversarios ninguno superó los doble dígitos, Gonzalo Quiroga y
Mariano Giustiniano fueron los que más aportaron y se quedaron en seis cada uno.
Patchell Shawn, director técnico de Estados Unidos, elogió al equipo argentino, “con el cual
tenemos fogueo entre sí y de ellos hemos aprendido el enfoque y la velocidad, y lo mejor de
mis jugadores es que pudieron progresar a medida que avanzó el torneo”.
Por su parte, Fabián Muraco, preparador argentino, indicó que “Estados Unidos es un rival que
siempre propone un juego muy difícil por su alto nivel y esperemos poder copiar muchas cosas
que ellos hacen muy bien, mientras que para nosotros eran más las expectativas que teníamos
que las posibilidades, fue lo que nos traicionó cuando no pudimos llevar nuestro juego”.
Kawika Shoji, capitán ganador, felicitó a la NORCECA y a la sede por organizar un gran evento,
“y estoy muy contento con este resultado, especialmente por la actuación de cada uno de mis
compañeros, quienes hicieron un gran esfuerzo para conquistar el oro, son muy jóvenes y esto
demuestra su avance”.
Entre tanto Mariano Giustiniano, líder albiceleste, expresó su insatisfacción “porque
hubiéramos querido hacer un mejor cierre, pero estamos muy contentos, somos un equipo
juvenil que venimos a buscar experiencia y estar en la final ya de hecho lo fue y grande”.
Después de Estados Unidos y Argentina se ubicaron República Dominicana, Brasil, México,
Canadá, Venezuela y Trinidad y Tobago.
Dominicana bronce tras memorable actuación frente a Brasil
Santo Domingo, 14 de julio, 2012.- La selección dominicana alcanzó su cuarta medalla en Copas
Panamericanas de Hombres y con el aliciente de vencer por el bronce 3-2 a Brasil, país al que todo rival
sueña derrotar.
Muy decididos salieron a la cancha, incisivos en el saque para desestabilizar a un conjunto plagado de
jugadores de un futuro promisorio, para triunfar con parciales de 28-26, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26 y 15-11 en
2 horas y 14 minutos.
Otra vez el capitán dominicano, José Miguel Cáceres (27) lideró la ofensiva con efectivo apoyo de Elvis
Contreras (17) y Elnis Palomino (14), en tanto por los auriverdes destacaron Mauricio Borges (19),
Gustavo Bonatto (16), Alan Ferreira Souza (13) y Otávio Rodríguez (11).
“Salimos ambos conjuntos a ganar y mis hombres cumplieron con la indicado, soy muy feliz porque
vencer a una selección brasileña siempre es algo grande con lo que se completan seis partidos muy
intensos”, manifestó el cubano Osiel Vásquez.
Su capitán, Cáceres, tampoco disimuló su emoción. “Es muy emotivo ganarle a Brasil, no pudimos
cuando nos enfrentamos en la Copa América que nos superaron 3-0. Tuvimos nuestras altas y bajas,
pero fue un encuentro de muy alta calidad”.
El líder de los sudamericanos, Raphael Vieira de Oliveira, tercer colocador más importante de su nación,
felicitó a sus rivales por la gran labor, “pero estamos tristes porque no pudimos estar entre los
medallistas, aunque es bueno jugar junto a jóvenes que seguro darán mucha alegría a Brasil”.
Leonardo Carvalho, preparador de los auriverdes, reconoció que “para enfrentar a Dominicana y
Estados Unidos, únicos contra los que perdimos, hay que hacer una preparación con más calidad,
nosotros vinimos solo con una semana, así que nos vamos con un sabor amargo porque de todas formas
sabíamos que podíamos llegar a la final”.
México se despidió quinto y con la mirada en Veracruz
Santo Domingo, 14 de julio, 2012.- El equipo de México fue más resistente hoy que Canadá en cinco sets
y se despidió de esta ciudad en el quinto escalón de la Copa Panamericana masculina y con la mirada
puesta en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de Veracruz 2014.
En un tú a tú transcurrió el partido en casi dos horas y con parciales de 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 18-25 y 15-
13, lo que también hubiera podido ser un éxito de los canadienses como casi siempre ocurre en los
enfrentamientos entre ambos países.
El opuesto Daniel Vargas encabezó la ofensiva azteca con 18 puntos, seguido de los puntas Marco
Macías (17) Leonardo Manzo, y el central Ismael Guerrero, estos últimos con 12 tantos cada uno.
El máximo anotador del juego resultó el canadiense Dane Pischke con productiva labor de 27 puntos,
mientras su compañero James Marshall agregó 15 en juego en el que los contendientes terminaron
empatados en bloqueos (11) y servicios (4), y Canadá con ventaja en ataque (65-49).
Pedro Rangel, capitán de los vencedores, evidentemente exhausto dijo que “fue un partido complicado
que esperábamos no fuera tan lejos, el cansancio y los dolores ya empezaban a molestar, la mayoría del
equipo está un poco con falta de preparación”.
Su entrenador Jorge Miguel Azair no piensa igual, “lo mejor fue que ellos jugaron cinco sets y cansados,
y lo más importante, a pesar de ello lucharon con todo eso en busca del triunfo, Canadá también tuvo
un gran torneo”.
Agregó que “se cumplió el objetivo de observar a quienes promoverán a la selección principal con miras
a los premundiales y los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de Veracruz 2014”.
Lawrence Mckay, preparador de los canadienses, al opinar del partido fue absoluto “la recepción de
Canadá estuvo muy pobre, y el servicio de México muy bueno, eso ocasionó problemas, pero los set que
ganamos fueron bien ganados y con pocos errores, lo que nuestros rivales jugaron mejor, no obstante
considero que mi equipo peleó hasta el final “.
Maxwell Burt, capitán de los ocupantes del sexto puesto, señaló que perdieron porque “los mexicanos
mantuvieron su estrategia, fueron muy resistentes y pelearon hasta el final pero nos sentimos
orgullosos de cómo los enfrentamos”.
Venezuela, séptimo en Copa Panamericana de Hombres
Santo Domingo, 14 de julio, 2012.- Venezuela aseguro el séptimo lugar de la VII Copa Panamericana de
Hombres no sin antes enfrentar dura resistencia del equipo de Trinidad y Tobago, cuyo accionar
extendió el juego a cinco sets en el Palacio del Voleibol de aquí.
Ninguno de los dos conjuntos querían quedar en el sótano y ambos protagonizaron su mejor
rendimiento durante el torneo, aunque en tie break los sudamericanos se llevaron el éxito con parciales
de 27-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-27 y 15-13.
Por los ganadores Héctor Salermo tributó 17, Jhoser Contreras 16 y Kervin Pinerua 15, aunque el
máximo anotador fue el central Marc Honore (23), con otros tres con doble dígitos: Nolan Tash y Ryan
Stewart (18) y Sean Morrison (11).
Precisamente el cubano Roberto García, director técnico de Venezuela, destacó el talento de Honore de
manera individual, así como lo que caracteriza a los equipos trinitarios “y es la manera como salen a
ganar cada tanto, los conozco bien desde que pasaban temporadas entrenando en mi país y sabía que
no era un rival fácil”.
El capitán sudamericano, Pinerua, se refirió a lo positivo de este torneo “para adquirir la experiencia que
nos falta a los menores de 23 años con vistas a la Copa Panamericana de esa categoría y a ellos de
preparación para el torneo de mayores de CAZOVA”.
Nolan Tash, el líder trinitario y uno de los jugadores más veteranos de esa zona caribeña, manifestó su
satisfacción por la importancia de asistir a estos certámenes, “especialmente a nosotros para defender
el título de mayores en CAZOVA y felicito a nuestros rivales porque su consistencia le dio la victoria”.
Gideon Dickson, DT de los trinitarios, dijo que “Venezuela supo en el primero y quinto sets anotar los
puntos críticos, evidenciando su concentración, y a la vez nos obligó a jugar lo mejor de estas jornadas
como creo que también así pasó con nuestros adversarios”.
U.S. champion of the VII Pan American Cup for senior men
