Stations of the Cross Fridays during Lent in the Church

6:00 p.m. in English and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish Respond to the Lenten call for prayer, fasting and alms giving by joining us on Fridays during Lent for Stations of the Cross and afterwards for our Lenten Soup Nights.

Friday Evening Lenten Soup Dinners! Every Friday during Lent, at 6:30pm!

Our theme is “Eat Simply, So Others May Simply Eat!”

Sharing a simple meal of bread and soup is a demonstra-tion of our response to the Lenten call of prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving. We invite you to join us by offering the cost of a meal as donation to help feed the needy in our community. THE THEME TODAY IS: GIVE GOD THE GLORY Our gospel reading shows us that Jesus carried his public ministry according to the pattern that Saint Paul describes in our Second Reading. He was do-ing it for the glory of God: not for his own benefit, but for the benefit of all. Paul would later write in his let-ter to the Philippians that Jesus “humbled” himself to become like us. And we see this humility at work in today’s healing of the leper. Jesus is revealing the presence of God’s reign among the people, not so that he himself might receive the glory, but so that God would be glorified through him. Imitating this pattern, which Paul encourages the Jewish and Greek Christian factions in Corinth to do, still serves us well today. Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46. The leper will dwell apart, making an abode outside the camp. 1 Corinthians 10:31 - 11:1. Do everything for the glory of God; be imitators of Christ. Mark 1:40-45. The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. EL TEMA DE HOY ES: A DIOS TODA LA GLORIA La lectura del Evangelio hoy nos muestra que Jesús llevó a cabo su ministerio público de la forma en que describe San Pablo en la Segunda Lectura. Lo estaba haciendo por la gloria de Dios: no para beneficio propio sino para beneficio de todos. Pablo después escribiría en su carta a los filipenses que Jesús “se rebajó a sí mismo” para parecerse a nosotros. Y vemos cómo esta humildad se pone en práctica hoy en la curación del leproso. Jesús está intentando revelar la presencia del Reino de Dios entre las personas, no para recibir gloria sino para que Dios fuera glorificado por él. Imitar esta forma de obrar, lo cual Pablo sugiere que hagan las facciones judías y griegas cristianas de Corintio, todavía nos resulta muy útil hoy. Levítico 13:1-2, 44-46. El leproso habitará solo, fue-ra del campamento. 1 Corintios 10:31 -11. Haz todo por la gloria de Dios; sean imitadores de Cristo. Marcos 1:40-45. FROM MY HEART (not from my desk) Many thanks to the parents and other volunteers who pre-pared and sold food last weekend on behalf of the Third Grade class of our school. The food was delicious; as al-ways, Café San José was a good way to promote a sense of community; and this food sale reminded us of the impor-tance of our parish school, which is truly one of the great apostolates of our parish. Secondly, thanks to the 189 families who have pledged in our Pastoral Services Appeal. You already know how much your support helps the Church! Of course, we have many more than 189 families in our parish, so I call on all remain-ing families to turn in a pledge envelope. Your pledge or contribution, whatever the size, shows our gratitude to the diocese for all the assistance it gives to our parish. Our final thanks this week goes to our administrator, Fr. Efrain. Many people, when they heard he was going to Spain, might have assumed that he was taking a well-deserved vacation. I hope he had some rest during that time, but I know that the main reason for his trip was to do hard work at the Pontifical University of Salamanca to ob-tain his Licentiate in Canon Law. This degree will make it possible for him to help the Church in even more ways than he already does. Thank you, Fr. Efrain, for all you do for the Church! Welcome home! La comida fue sabrosa; como siempre, Café San José fue una manera excelente de promover un sentido de comuni-dad; y esta venda de comida nos recordó la importancia de nuestra escuela parroquial, que es verdaderamente uno de los grandes apostolados de nuestra parroquia. En segundo lugar, gracias a los 189 familias que entregaron sus promesas para nuestra Campaña para los Servicios Pastorales. ¡Ya saben cómo su apoyo ayuda a la Iglesia! De hecho, tenemos más de 189 familias en nuestra parro-quia; entonces, yo pido a todas las otras familias para que nos entreguen un sobre con su promesa. Su promesa o contribución, cualquier que sea la cantidad, muestra nues-tra gratitud a la diócesis por toda la asistencia que da a nuestra parroquia. Dirigimos nuestra última expresión de gratitud esta semana a nuestro administrador, el P. Efraín. Muchas personas, oyendo que él fuera a España, posiblemente pensaron que tomaría una vacación bien merecida.
