The theme of our design is the rebirth of a snake. As snakes
shed their skin when they grow, it symbolizes how our class
will gain a new start in the upcoming year. The gesture of the
snake is in the shape of the infinite symbol “∞”. It represents
how we will reach our unlimited amount of potential.
Flowers refer to fortune in the Chinese tradition. They
symbolize how we will gain an abundance of fortune in our
studies.
Flowers and windmills make up the design of
our board. Colourful flowers symbolize
spring and vitality. This means our
classmates will be full of life in the new year
and will have a colourful school life.
Windmills are auspicious, and they represent
how everything will go smoothly in the new
year despite the difficulties that we may meet.
The biggest windmill is held by the hands of
the family of 3B. Hand in hand, we will create
our miracle.
Our theme is Jubilant Golden Snake and Unity. In
order to help preserve the environment, we used old
newspaper to make our 3-D Golden Snake. The 35
students that we have drawn are standing hand in
hand, which means our hearts are connected and we
will always study in harmony. Our two class teachers,
Ms. CM Kwong and Mr. KH Man, are riding on our
Golden Snake. This means they will lead us and teach
us how to learn peacefully.
The theme of our board
is the snake. We made
“1A” using the photos
of every student in 1A
class. This means we will
build our future together
just like we worked
together to create our board.

On the Lunar New Year Celebration Day, two
students from each class participated in an exciting,
new game called “Running minutes”. This game
combined two popular TV shows - “Running Man”
and “Minute to Win it”. There were 6 check points.
The 3 teams which finished all the games in the
shortest time received prizes from the Students’
Union.
The first check point was “This Blows”.
Participants needed to inflate a balloon and then use
the balloon to blow cups away. “Loner” was the
another checkpoint, where students used marble to
crush down on a standing pencil.
Representatives from 4A, 4D, and 4E were
the were the masters of these games and won prizes
for their class!

In “Don't Blow the Joker”, students tried to
blow on a deck of playing cards until only one
card was left.
The third check point was called “Back Flip”,
where students put 2 pencils at a time on the back
of their hand, tossed them up, and finally used
their palm to catch them all.

Lastly, “Face the Potato Chips” requires
students to use the muscles on their face to
move a potato chip from their forehead to
their mouth.
In “Nose dive”, students used
their nose to transfer 5 cotton
balls between two points.

During the summer of 2012, three of my 6B classmates,
Yip Wing Shan, Wong Chung Man and Chan Mei Ling, and I
joined the Green Youth Ambassador Program held by
Footprints, which is an environmental protection organization
in Hong Kong. The program consisted of two parts: a training
camp hosted by Footprints and a green project created by us.
The best group was offered the opportunity to go on an
educational trip to Singapore.
Our project evolved into what you now know as the
‘Supergreen’ movement in Sin Tak. We started by recruiting
student helpers. We made plastic bottle caps into nice
homemade key rings and went to each S3 and S4 classroom to
tell our schoolmates about our goals. The key rings were nice
souvenirs for them.
We then decided to start a Facebook page, and we were all
In October, the Supergreen team held the ‘Freecycling Platform’. Four of us
tidied up our bedrooms. Then, we selected things that we no longer wanted,
asked others to do the same, and booked a room for students to exchange their
things. The two-day-event attracted more than 160 visitors, including students,
teachers and janitors. A message was conveyed: sharing will avoid wasting.
We tried something more exciting in November. We planned an activity
called “City Hunt”. During this event, participants needed to take to the streets
with their environmental concerns. In December, we collected spare disposable
utensils from students and teachers. We collected around 50 forks and spoons
within two days! From now on, remember to bring your own eating utensils in
order to reduce plastic waste!
The GYA program officially came to an end after the presentation session in
November. Yet we hope the spirit of Supergreen will never fade. The green
helpers will carry on the movement once the S6 members graduate from BSTC.
We trust that BSTC will be even greener in the future.

amazed by how smoothly things went. Kong Chi Shan, one of
our green helpers, designed a fantastic logo for us. We posted
details and photos of our activities, green facts and even our
views regarding the Students Union election and Sports Day.
We know that we had successfully grabbed people’s attention
when we got 227 “likes”.
Shirley Lee Ho Ying was chosen by Footprints to go on the
Singapore trip. She has decided not to take up this offer due
to her preparation for the HKDSE. The next Green Youth
Ambassador camp will be held in the summer of 2013.

EXPLOR ING THE S KY : V I S IT ING THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY AND SPACE MUSEUM
On January 26, BSTC’s Astronomy Club organized
an informative trip to the Hong Kong Observatory and
the Hong Kong Space Museum in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Twenty-six students, along with Mr. KM Yung, Mr. KH
Yeung, Ms. WS Cheung, Ms. TM Wong, and Ms. M
Lum, spent an afternoon learning about meteorology
and the climate of Hong Kong. The participants found
out more about the formation of typhoons and the
harmful effects of climate change. Ecosystems and the
environment were the other topics of discussion.
“We were told that there is in fact no ‘Lee’s Field’
that affects the Hong Kong Observatory,” the
Chairperson of the Astronomy Club, Stephen Lee, said.
“That’s quite interesting, right?”
In addition, the students visited the Space Museum,
where they learned about the mystery of the outer
space. “We watched Tales of the Maya Skies on the
panorama screen that went almost 360-degrees around
us. However, I think the show was a little bit too
difficult to understand.”

What about Chinese chess? Chinese checkers (波子棋)? How about
Aeroplane Chess (飛行棋)?
Playing chess is about using strategies and tactics to win your
opponent within the rules of the game, so it is a great activity for
practicing logical and rational thinking. The BSTC Chess Club has been
established for 10 years. They hold monthly chess competitions to
encourage students to play chess.
In this academic year, the Chess Club will organize a BSTC Chess
Team. Our school team will participate in an upcoming annual chess
competition. Moreover, the Vice-Chairperson of the club participated in
a contest held by the HONG KONG CHILDREN’S GO
COLLEGE last month and got an impressive result!
If you are interested in exercising your critical mind, you
should join the Chess Club’s activities!

Meet the Librarian – Ms. Kwan
R – reporter
K – Ms. Kwan
R: Hi Ms. Kwan, how long have you worked in our school?
K: I have worked in BSTC for 18 years - 14 years in the general
office and 4 years in the library.
R: How do you like working in the Sin Tak library?
K: I have come into contact with more students than in the
general office, which I like. Besides restoring old books,
checking book records and labels, recording the information of
new book arrivals, I also help students make photocopies.
Students can feel free to find me for help at anytime.
Cheung Hoi Ching

R: What do you enjoy most about your work?
K: I love to interact with students, help them make
photocopies and chat with them. They're just like my boys and
girls.
R: Outside of work, what do you do in your free time?
K: I like to read the comics from the library. They always make
me burst out laughing.
