BSBPA Employs Social Media to Expand Reach

The most effective pro-motion is still through word of mouth adver-tisement and technol-ogy, more specifically social media, has put it in hyper-drive. With this in mind, the BSBPA will be ramping up its online presence by util-izing Facebook. Please take a moment and ‘like’ the BSBPA Facebook Fan Page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/BSBPA.

Facebook is one of the most widely used social media websites and platforms throughout the world and yet it retains the ability to promote local organizations, businesses and initiatives. The BSBPA Facebook Fan Page will be a place where people can get the latest information on all our events, volunteer opportunities, new business openings, specials and other items. Going forward the marketing and promotions plan can seamlessly integrate and easily promote the BSBPA’s Facebook Fan Page. It’s important that we make this as interactive and social as possible. So all members, including our committees are en-couraged to send photos, videos and links for possible content. If you have any ideas or items to share please send them to [email protected]; this way we can ensure a cohesive and quality experience for our members and visitors. Best Wishes, Bernadette VanDeinse Editor’s note: Bernadette Van Deinse is a BSBPA resident member who is sharing her skills to help the Association better promote our com-munity, events and businesses through social media. Recently, she has been working to enhance the BSBPA’s presence on Facebook.

Member ItemsMember ItemsMember Items Ballston Spa National Bank has donated $10,000 to help Brook-side Museum offer programs and services in 2012. “From caring for and preserving the county’s historic artifacts and memories to providing educational programs for thousands of local school chil-dren each year, the Brook-side Museum is a tremendous resource to the Village of Ballston Spa and greater Saratoga region,” states Christopher R. Dowd, BSNB President and CEO. “In making this contribution, we at BSNB hope to enable Brookside to further their educational programs and mission.” Like other museums in New York State, Brookside has suffered from funding cuts. The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) has annually reduced funding for cul-tural institutions for the past few years. Saratoga County reduced support by more than half for 2012, and have suggested that funding in 2013 and beyond will be cut alto-gether. Despite the funding cuts, Brookside continues to serve nearly 12,000 people each year through education programs, exhibits, and research services. "This donation from BSNB will help us continue preserving and sharing Saratoga County's unique history. Ballston Spa National Bank has been a won-derful community partner and we are very thankful for their on-going generous support, " said Jeanne Obermayer, President of Brook-side's Board of Trustees.

BSNB is completing renovations at their Main Office location at 87 Front Street. The construction pro-ject is expected to last for the first two to three months of 2012 and your patience is appreciated during this period. There will be a brief period between Feb. 20th– 24th where the lobby will have only lim-ited access due to safety considera-tions. While this may cause some disruption of service, for your con-venience, the drive-thru, walk-up tellers and ATM will continue to provide service during normal branch and ATM hours. In addition to this location, nearby branch of-fices at 344 Rowland Street (Milton Crest) and 990 State Route 67 (Corporate Branch) are also open and available to assist you. For con-struction updates and information, please visit us at www.bsnb.com or at www.facebook.com/YourBSNB. Ballston Spa School District news: A Financial Aid Workshop will be held at Ballston Spa High School on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the library. The Ballston Spa Guidance Department will be hosting the hands-on work-shop for families of 12th grade stu-dents that need to complete the FAFSA forms. A financial aid repre-sentative from Hudson Valley Com-munity College will also be available to assist students and parents with filing the FAFSA electronically (please bring documents). For more information, please contact the Ballston Spa High School Guidance Office at 884-7150 ext. 2362. The annual Kindergarten Parent Infor-mation Evening will be held on February 16, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the Wood Road / Milton Terrace North Cafetorium. This meeting is an op-portunity to discover what the Kin-

dergarten program is all about and it is designed just for parents. A sec-ond event held later in the spring is the actual Kindergarten screening and registration for all incoming students. More information, includ-ing when to meet with the school nurse, will be sent directly from the elementary buildings to parents during the winter months. Anyone with an incoming Kindergarten stu-dent who is not already in contact with the school is asked to call the Central Registration Office at 602-0256. The Board of the Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra (SSYO) is holding a “call to action” meeting for all stakeholders and persons interested in the continua-tion of the Orchestra. The SSYO is a small “select” youth orchestra com-prised of high school/college stu-dents (15 -25 years) from Saratoga County and throughout the Capital Region dedicated to quality music performances of a unique repertoire of rare European classical music pieces. Under the musical direction and mentoring of a world class pro-fessional musician and conductor, Maestro Gioacchino Longo-bardi, young musicians are given the opportunity to develop a true pride of music, and a desire for ex-cellence as part of a group orches-tral experience and as an individual musician. SSYO did not have an orchestra season last year due to a lack of sufficient, high level student musicians. There is a renewed com-mitment to bring back the orchestra this year. Efforts to recruit student musicians are being developed and new opportunities to reconnect to the community are also needed. The SSYO Board is ac-tively looking to add local stake-

The 16 year old Ballston Spa High School student wants to build a covered stage area in historic Iron Spring Park on the west end of Front Street, across from Brookside Museum. Wiswall Park is currently used for many events, including the BSBPA’s Concerts in the Park. Although the concert series itself would most likely remain at Wiswall, the Iron Spring Park stage would add yet another venue for public performance to the village. Tyler has worked with Patrick Ferlo, a theatrical stage de-signer from SUNY Albany, to come up with a design that would be conducive to the park’s layout. After presenting his idea to the mayor and village trustees and to the BSBPA Board, he hopes to work with local businesses and organiza-tions to attain materials and volunteers to bring the project to fruition.
