Taught by certified teachers, the program will be offered as a service to the community. Camp H.O.P.E. (Healthy Options for Play and Educa-tion) will target children who are go-ing into grades two through five. En-titled "Enjoy a Splash of Reading," the theme of the week will be water. Using games, songs, stories, poetry, and instruction, the program will en-courage and promote a love for and enjoyment of reading, provide chil-dren with an opportunity to practice previously learned reading skills, pro-vide opportunities for learning through peer interaction and physical activities, foster confidence and a positive attitude in the children about the coming school year. Call Hope Church at 885-7442. Ballston Spa Elks Lodge will be having its All You Can Eat breakfast buffet on Sunday June 10th from 8 to 11:30 am. Food and en-tertainment are provided by the kindness of the parents and local community businesses and resi-dents. Some of the thrill is the final raffle event when many prizes are awarded such as refrigerators and other items for school, home or per-sonal use. Larry Rutland has resigned as Acting Director of the National Bottle Museum, and from the Board of Trustees. He will con-tinue as an instructor at Museum Glassworks, the museum’s teaching facility. Lisa Daigle has been named Director of Museum Glassworks, the museum’s hot-glass teaching studio. Evelyn Kramer, current President of the Board of Trustees, has re-signed. Meg Stevens has joined the Board as its new President. William Hewitt, who longtime Ball-ston Spa residents may remember played Santa Claus for many years, passed away in May. An active member of the community, Wil-liam was involved with St. Mary's Parish and Boy Scouts. Our condo-lences to his family. Sincere condolences also to the Pompa family on the passing of Daniel Pompa on May 6. Daniel had been one of the owner/operators of the family business, Pompa Brothers, Inc.

Congratula-tions to them and the entire Ballston Spa High School Class of 2012! Brookside Nursery reminders for this month: be on the lookout for insect pests on your plants. We have had many homeowners come in with pine sawfly (eating their mugho pines) , aphids in their perennials and others. One munching caterpil-lar you may want to allow to eat is the monarch butterfly-it is green and yellow striped around its body and loves dill, caraway, and parsley. Japanese beetles will be joining the ranks later this month; be ready with your beetle bags! As always, if you see a bug in the yard that appears to be doing damage, find out what it is before you spray anything . There are still emerald ash borers and Asian beetles to worry about. Shannon Allitt is the owner of a new business in Ballston Spa. Berrylicious Bouquets is located within the Deca-dent Diva Chocolate Shop at 241 Milton Ave. Shannon rents kitchen space at Decadent Diva to make her deli-cious Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Bouquets. Shannon is a transplant to upstate NY, originally from the Philadelphia area. As a stay at home mom for the last 10 years, she has had plenty of time to perfect her product. Although never a very good baker, Shannon has always loved to entertain. Dinner was fabulous, but dessert was another story, until she started dipping strawberries in chocolate and began to receive rave re-views from her guests. Over the years she used different types of chocolate (Dark, Milk, White) and added different accents (Sprinkles, Sugar Dust, Coconut, Nuts). As the bouquets became more elaborate, and her children got older and went off to grade school, Shannon decided to take the plunge and try to make something out of her hobby. Berrylicious Bouquets takes orders for chocolate covered strawberry bouquets by phone and online at www.berryliciousbouquets.com. They offer 5 different bouquet sizes, ranging from 12 berries in a Sweet Dozen up
to 70 berries in a Big Bash. Smaller bouquets are perfect for birthday, thank you, get well and anniversary gifts; larger bouquets are great for weddings, parties, showers, etc. Berrylicious Bouquets also delivers from the Lake George region down to Albany. Shan-non is thrilled to have an exciting new business in Ballston Spa and is looking forward to meeting lots of new friends!
planted your veggies yet, fear not-you still have time to get those toma-toes, peppers, eggplant, squashes and more in the ground. Generally, if you get it done by Father's Day, you should still have a healthy crop. Don't forget to plant your herbs- those veggies will need some season-ing! Ballston Spa House & Garden Club news: A $100 scholarship has been given to BSHS senior Colette McDonald. The annual award is given by the club to a deserving stu-dent who has been involved in horti-culture or a related field. In addi-tion, a scholarship to Camp Colby has been awarded to Ballston Spa middle school student Bryn Giam-bona. She was selected by school administrators and will attend the Lake Colby Environmental Educa-tion Camp in Saranac Lake for one week this summer. Both of these awards are funded by the club's spring sale of geraniums. The House & Garden Club and District IV of the Federated Garden Clubs of NYS are sponsoring a trip to the New York Botanical Garden on Tues.,
June 12. Cost of $85 includes bus transportation, admittance, and a return dinner at Cosimo's Restaurant in Newburgh. Please call 587-3085 to book a seat. Club members held a pear tree planting on April 28 at the Guardian House for Women Veter-ans. This was the 6th annual Arbor Day tree planting sponsored by the club. Local horticultural expert Larry Woolbright has agreed to assist club members in planning the conversion of the upper Jim Tedisco Trail Garden to an all-NY native spe-cies garden. Club members continue to plant and maintain the "Pink Gar-den" at the front of the Ballston Spa Public Library. The garden honors those in the community who have dealt with breast cancer. The club will sponsor its annual National Gar-den Week children's program at the Ballston Spa Public Library on June 7th at 10AM. The club donates a children's picture book that talks about gardening, and club members read the book out loud to the chil-dren and do a related craft pro-ject.

Summer Lunch Program The First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa (FBC) will once again be implementing a Summer Lunch Program to supplement the 150 or more Ballston Spa school chil-dren and pre-schoolers who had breakfasts and lunches provided at no cost or reduced cost during the school year. This assistance stops when school stops in June. Their families will try to shoulder this additional bur-den but many times, children will go hungry. Summer Lunch Program volunteers will go to work making and delivering healthy, nutritious lunches to needy children during July and August. Last year 50 lunches were pro-vided twice a week. This year, the goal is to deliver 200 lunches five days a week!
The summer lunch program is your neighbors, your local businesses and your friends donating elbow grease, supplies and money (all volunteer-no govern-ment funds). Please join us! If you would like to do-nate some money or donate supplies, make lunches, deliver food or help in any way, please contact FBC at 885-8361 or [email protected]. No child should face a summer day hungry. Together, we can do our part to make sure that our children are fed. Thank you for your support!
