JUNE 2015 Bring People to Jesus to know Him and make Him known Hi there! Wasn’t the Devotion great today?! HAPPY JUNE, 2015! I really hope you are gearing up for an extra great summer! Thanks for all you do to help us focus all our resolve and resources on “Bringing People to Jesus to Know Him and Make Him Known!” through all our people, programs and property! Thanks for helping us push aside every “lesser thing” so we can bring the full-force of Indian River City to his GREATER THING! I hope you have an extra great experience with Jesus today! WWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLL...we’re already at the half-way point in 2015! Can you believe it?! Amazing! It’s also a great time to do a little check-up to see where we are and how we’re doing! Maureen often reminds me that my daily running uses the muscles I have today and that I need to be intentionally practicing the exercises that builds muscles for tomorrow! In the same way, I learned early on in my Christian life that a lot of what you and I do in church week after week uses faith we already have and that we must practice exercises designed to build the faith needed for tomorrow! We all want our faith to be primed and positive when God calls us to live, give and serve into the future! BBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUTTTTTTTT...our faith can get pretty weak and worn-out if we are not continuing to develop it! We don’t build the kind of faith needed for tomorrow automatically or accidentally! We do it by practic- ing faith-building exercises! Here are three great exercises that have really helped me develop the faith I have needed to face the challenges of tomorrow today...I believe they can help you too! 1. HAVE A DAILY DEVOTION The Bible says, “This is the reason we never lose heart. Our body does suffer wear and tear, but every day the inward man receives fresh strength” (2 Corinthians 4:16) Spiritually we can be renewed every day by spending time individually with God. Let’s go to THE UPPER ROOM every day, read the Bible, ponder it, lean into the personal story and talk with God about what’s happening! 2. GROW IN A SMALLER GROUP The Bible says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…!” (Hebrews 10:25) A Christian outside a smaller group of peo- ple is an orphan! E-Mail Dawn at [email protected] for info about our Smaller Group opportunities. There are lots of Sunday School, Bible Studies and Ministry & Mission TEAMS that are great Smaller Groups! 3. WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC The Bible says, “I will sing about your strength, my God, and I will celebrate because of your love!” (Psalm 59:16) The weekly music time at Indian River City isn’t just a warm-up act; it plays a really HUGE part in building our faith by helping us focus on God! Don’t miss it this weekend! For us to become more like Jesus we must “resolve to know nothing except Jesus Christ while we’re here!” (1 Corinthians 2:2) Let’s continue to focus ourselves on that one thing! We can more easily identify all the “lesser things” that are stealing our time, talent and treasure from God’s GREATER THINGS! Let’s give all we are and all we have to “Bring People to Jesus to Know Him and Make Him Known!” Now that’s...RADICAL! Bill

Bring People to Jesus

to know Him and make Him known

Hi there! Wasn’t the Devotion great today?! HAPPY JUNE, 2015! I really hope you are gearing up for an

extra great summer! Thanks for all you do to help us focus all our resolve and resources on “Bringing People

to Jesus to Know Him and Make Him Known!” through all our people, programs and property! Thanks for

helping us push aside every “lesser thing” so we can bring the full-force of Indian River City to his GREATER

THING! I hope you have an extra great experience with Jesus today!

WWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLL...we’re already at the half-way point in 2015! Can you

believe it?! Amazing! It’s also a great time to do a little check-up to see where we are and how we’re

doing! Maureen often reminds me that my daily running uses the muscles I have today and that I need to

be intentionally practicing the exercises that builds muscles for tomorrow! In the same way, I learned early

on in my Christian life that a lot of what you and I do in church week after week uses faith we already have

and that we must practice exercises designed to build the faith needed for tomorrow!

We all want our faith to be primed and positive when God calls us to live, give and serve into the future!

BBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUTTTTTTTT...our faith can get pretty weak and worn-out if we are not continuing to develop

it! We don’t build the kind of faith needed for tomorrow automatically or accidentally! We do it by practic-

ing faith-building exercises! Here are three great exercises that have really helped me develop the faith I

have needed to face the challenges of tomorrow today...I believe they can help you too!

1. HAVE A DAILY DEVOTION The Bible says, “This is the reason we never lose heart. Our body does suffer wear

and tear, but every day the inward man receives fresh strength” (2 Corinthians 4:16) Spiritually we can be

renewed every day by spending time individually with God. Let’s go to THE UPPER ROOM every day, read

the Bible, ponder it, lean into the personal story and talk with God about what’s happening!

2. GROW IN A SMALLER GROUP The Bible says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit

of doing, but let us encourage one another…!” (Hebrews 10:25) A Christian outside a smaller group of peo-

ple is an orphan! E-Mail Dawn at [email protected] for info about our Smaller Group opportunities.

There are lots of Sunday School, Bible Studies and Ministry & Mission TEAMS that are great Smaller Groups!

3. WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC The Bible says, “I will sing about your strength, my God, and I will celebrate

because of your love!” (Psalm 59:16) The weekly music time at Indian River City isn’t just a warm-up act; it

plays a really HUGE part in building our faith by helping us focus on God! Don’t miss it this weekend!

For us to become more like Jesus we must “resolve to know nothing except Jesus Christ while we’re here!”

(1 Corinthians 2:2) Let’s continue to focus ourselves on that one thing! We can more easily identify all the

“lesser things” that are stealing our time, talent and treasure from God’s GREATER THINGS! Let’s give all

we are and all we have to “Bring People to Jesus to Know Him and Make Him Known!”

Now that’s...RADICAL!

Library News Hello everyone! Read any good books lately? Would you like to share with others what you have read? Why ask this question is simple, really. How do you find a good restaurant, surfing spot, Bible study, church or pre-school? Personal recommendations from those you trust. What better way to find a good book than through a recommendations of a friend.

Recommendation from Lowell Gray: Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus: A Devout Muslim Encounters Christianity by Nabeel Qureshi.

Recommendation from Linda Stuck: As Waters Gone By by Cynthia Ruchti (this is a New Arrival)

Recommendation from numerous readers: The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron

******NEW ARRIVALS******

You'll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Your Turbulent Times by Max Lucado (Non-fiction) Max encourages readers through sharing the Biblical story of Joseph. The story of Joseph's life didn't end in the pit and neither does yours. How to Forgive When You Don't Feel Like It by June Hunt (Non-fiction - Harvest House Publishers) Combining biblical truth with heartfelt compassion, the author encourages you to follow Jesus' example and experience the freedom and spiritual growth that come with healing past hurts and broken relation-ships. Shadow of the Mountain: Exodus by Cliff Graham (Fiction – Bethany House) Two men were brave enough to tell the truth about what awaited the Hebrews in Canaan. This is their sto-ry. From the slave pits of Egypt to the efforts of an eighty-five-year-old Caleb as he drives out the last of the giants, Shadow of the Mountain is a vivid portrait of two of God's chosen champions, and a meditation on masculine mentorship and the blessings of growing older. (Reviewers say the men/guys will like this one...intense battles.) The Crimson Cord, Daughters of the Promised Land Series #1 by Jill Eileen Smith (Fiction – Revell) Reviewers give this 4.7* out of 5. What a powerful rendition of the story of one of the Bible's most famous women. The Crimson Cord is all about forgiveness and mercy.

BOOK CHAT...JUNE 19TH @ 11AM - Noon

Everyone is invited for discussion of Anna's Crossing by Suzanne Fisher Woods. This book was on the ECPA April fiction bestseller list. It is a story of the first Amish who crossed the Atlantic in 1737. If they meet these requirements, they earn a college scholarship. Mentors partner with a non-profit organization that’s behind them all the way. Space Coast High School needs 6 female and 2 male mentors. Ti-tusville High needs 4 female and 1 male mentor. All mentoring is school based during school hours and events (none during the summer). Being Jesus with Skin On

Since November 2014, Stan & Lois Stookey’s Home Group has one Saturday a month, pur-chased, prepared, and served breakfast at First UMC to the people from the neighbor-hoods in the downtown Titusville area. This has been a great connection with a sister Methodist Church and a way for their group to participate in outreach that brings Jesus to people through a meal and fellowship. JUNE 2015 INDIAN RIVER CITY UMC NEWS

Hello Indian River City UMC! First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. You have truly made me feel at home as I begin my journey here at Indian River City UMC. Please forgive me if ask for your name multiple times. I will remember faces, but it takes me a little longer to connect the names with the faces. God has led me here to serve in the financial ministry of this church. I have been serving in financial ministry for more years than I want to think about (it makes me sound older than I feel). This is the 6th Methodist church I have been called be in this role, and it is a role I love. Numbers, budgets, and anything financial are confusing, and even intimidating, to a lot of people. I feel that my role is not only to keep us financially straight, but also to help others understand what those num-bers mean. On a personal note, I have been married for 25 years to my husband Bill. We have a daughter Melissa who lives in Jacksonville with her husband, her two boys, her two step-daughters and her step grand-daughter. Our two young men, John (23) and Matt (21) still live with us in Port St. John as they figure out the path for the rest of their lives. We are members at First United Methodist Church in Port St. John where I am Treasurer, and a member of the Praise Team. Though we will still continue to serve at Port St. John, I am sure Indian River City will become a second church home for us. I am looking forward to our journey together. In His Service, Laurie
