AAA Word From the Pastor

Next weekend, June 10-11, , the second collection is a special one-time collection to help with the completion of the Trinity Dome at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immacu-late Conception, Washington, D.C. The Bishops of the United States approved this collec-tion for the Dome which will complete Mary's Shrine in Washington, D.C., and serve as a lasting legacy for generations to come. The completed Shrine will be a living monument to our Catholic faith and heritage. For more information, please consult www.trinitydome, or www.notionalshrine.org. Please consider giving a gift or making a pledge (to be paid over the next six months) to the 2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal. We're gradually making our way to our parish goal - we've reached about 93% of our goal. Thank you to all who have responded to date. Re-member, no gift is too small and every gift makes a difference. A gift of $5 can buy two galls of gasoline for a vehicle which helps to deliver meals through the Meals on Wheels program. Can YOU suggest the name of a parishioner whom you think God might be calling to Priest-hood, Religious Life or the Diaconate? I'm sure you met or know such a person. Father Joe Fitzgerald, the Diocesan Director of Vocations, is sponsoring a Vocations Summer Camp experience open to high school age women and men. The experience will take place at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington and runs from Monday morning through Friday evening. For more information and/or registration, go to QuoVadisLongIs-land.org. If you know someone but don't want to ask the question, tell me their name and I'll ask them the question. Sunday, June 18 is Father's Day and once again, our parish will have a Father's Day No-vena of nine Masses offered for those enrolled in the Novena. If you wish to enroll your fa-ther, grandfather, brother, uncle, anyone in the Novena, please complete and return the en-rollment envelope. If you did not receive one, blank enrollment envelopes are available at the doors of the Church. If you wish to present a card announcing their enrollment, Spiritual Bouquet Mass cards are also available at the doors of the Church. About one and one half weeks ago, parishioners were informed by mail of our Annual Spring Raffle. The drawing will take place on June 26. There are three prizes of $1000 ea. Chances are $10 each or 6 for $50. Additional sheets of tickets are available in the vestibule of Church. Chances can be returned to the rectory Office via the collection basket, by drop-ping them at the Office or by mail. I hope you will support the Annual Raffle which is one of our most important fund raising events. As you know, the proceeds help to offset the operat-ing expenses of the parish.

FOCUS: Today is Pentecost, the 50th day since we

celebrated Easter. We, like the disciples are in an

upper room, a sanctuary, together. Jesus tells us that

“whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven.” We

lift up those sins– however light, however heavy– in

expectation of that promise. In the first reading, Peter preaches the Gospel on the first Pentecost. His message

reaches people from every land. In the second reading, Paul marvels at all the gifts God has given to the

community of faith; yet all belong to the one body of Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus appears to his disciples, grants them his peace, and commissions them with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Published by Franciscan Media
