Mars: The Red PlanetMars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in our solar system. Mars is sometimes called ‘the Red Planet’ because of its colour. The atmosphere on Mars does not have enough oxygen for us to breathe.
Did You Know…?• Mars was named after the Roman god of war.
The month of March is also named after him.
• A Mars day is called a ‘sol’.
Missions to MarsIt is important to launch a mission to Mars at the right time because Earth and Mars are always moving. Sometimes, Mars is closer to Earth than at other times. Choosing the shortest distance is a good idea because the journey will need less fuel.
Why Mars?Mars is the safest planet to travel to because:
• its soil contains a little water;
• it gets enough sunlight to use solar power;
• there is some gravity to help us to walk;
• a day on Mars is almost the same length as on Earth.
Humans want to find out if there might be life on other planets and scientists believe that Mars is the best planet for life, apart from Earth.

• search for water;
• find out whether Mars could have ever supported life.

Art Week 4 - Watercolour Planets and a story about Mousetronaut
Just Imagine… what would it be like to explore another planet? I wonder what it would look like? What could you see on it? Can we breathe on the planet?
Let’s create our own planet, but first have a look at what planet earth looks like and other planets. Jump onto Google Images and have a search. (or jump onto the next page)
Start to plan what your own planet will look like. What colours will you include? Start will a planet, rounded shape and begin to sketch the land forms.
Add colour with water colour paints. Once dry, carefully cut out your planet and stick to a black background. Think about how you will add stars in the background.
Take a photo and share your art work with your teacher.
Follow the link to read a story about an adventurous mouse going to space
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJBYgZyy21U
Can you name any of these planets?
Regular Past, Present and
Future Tense
Remember:The tense of a word tells us when an action has happened.
This is important in our writing so that it makes sense.PastThe past tense tells us that the event has already happened.
Eg. I washed the car yesterday.PresentThe present tense tells us that the event is happening now.
Eg. I am washing the car.FutureThe future tense tells us that the event will happen in the future.
Eg. I will wash the car tomorrow.
Remember a suffix is small group of letters added to the end of a
word to change the meaning of the word, in this case it changes the
tense, telling us it happened in the past.
In our first lesson we learned that when changing the tense to past we keep the ‘base word’ and add the ‘ed’ suffix.
Base word = washPast tense suffix = ed
Past Tense Word = washed.Then in our second lesson we looked at irregular past tense words.For example;
fly = flewcatch = caughtthink = thought
These words don’t add the suffix ‘ed’ but completely change to a new word.
Today we are going to continue to practise using regular verbs in the past, present and future tense. Fill in the examples.
Verb Past Present Future
walk walked walking will walk

Using the following verbs, write a sentence in the past tense.

Week 4 Dance
Let’s recap the different types of dance movements from last week.
Travel, turn, jump, gesture and balance.
Choose a large empty spot where you can twirl and move freely. Choose some music and create a dance, moving around the room.
Now critique your dance and choice of movements. What did you like? What can be improved upon? Could you add in additional dance movements to enhance the overall performance?
Irregular Past Tense
Remember:The tense of a word tells us when an action has happened.
This is important in our writing so that it makes sense.PastThe past tense tells us that the event has already happened.
Eg. I washed the car yesterday.PresentThe present tense tells us that the event is happening now.
Eg. I am washing the car.FutureThe future tense tells us that the event will happen in the future.
Eg. I will wash the car tomorrow.
In our first lesson we learned that when changing the tense to past we keep the ‘base word’ and add the ‘ed’ suffix.
Base word = washPast tense suffix = ed
Past Tense Word = washed.Then in our second lesson we looked at irregular past tense words.For example;
fly = flewcatch = caughtthink = thought
These words don’t add the suffix ‘ed’ but completely change to a new word.
Today we are going to continue to practise using irregular verbs in the past, present and future tense. Fill in the examples.

Importance of Country and Place
For the Indigenous people of
Australia, land means many different things.
The Aboriginal people are connected to the land
spiritually, physically, socially and culturally.
It is important for the Aboriginal people to manage and
care for the land as it provides shelter, health and jobs.
Aboriginal artwork tells the story about the connection
that the Aboriginal people have with their land.

Storytelling and Special Places
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people used painting and drawing on rocks
and in caves to tell others where food and water may be found, and what animals
were in the area. The paintings told stories about how the place was created and
why it was important to them.
How would you draw pictures to represent how a place is special to you?
