FEBRUARY 2018
On Ash Wednesday 2016, I slept late [missing a service at Trinity] and drove through Starbucks. Leaving the drive thru I saw you and another person giving ashes. I stopped and received ashes. This turned out to be a very moving and thought provoking experience for me. One which I shared with several people and was encouraged to write
about. I did this. This evening as I was cleaning up my office area, I came across the bookmark also given to me at the time. I imagine you are in the throes of getting ready for Lent and wanted to let you know what a powerful ministry is being provided by your congregation. At least for me it has been power-ful. Thank you for sharing this gift! Sharon Sharon, Thank you so much for sharing your experience of Ashes to Go. Four years ago, as I was putting on vestments to go to Starbuck's, I was filled with doubts about doing something so brash and "out there". If I hadn't already enlisted the help of a parish member who was expecting me to be there, I probably would have found an excuse for backing out. God provides. The woman you saw me with was Stephanie Wingate, a nurse, spouse, and mother of three. I had mentioned doing Ashes to Go at a Worship Committee meeting and Stephanie immedi-ately loved the idea. So I have to give her the credit for making it work.

Since then, we have added more people to our little crew. Last year, we started hearing this: "I've come to expect and count on you being here each year." Something which began with such apprehension on my part ended up building a little con-gregation that gathers once a year on Ash Wednesday at Star-buck's. People tell us, as you did in your letter, how much that little moment in the parking lot means to them on a day of ob-ligation when they may not be able to get to church. We are now in the process of building another little congrega-tion at a coin laundry on Cleburne Rd. near the Fiesta grocery store. A member of our Mission and Outreach committee, Kelli Graham, found out about Laundry Love, and spearhead-ed the organization and fundraising. Laundry Love started with a simple question to a homeless person in California: "What do you need the most?" The person replied, “Clean clothes.” So, the third Saturday of each month, we take our soap table, craft table for the kids, donuts, and rolls of quarters and pay for people's laundry. Once again, we started out wondering if this was going to work. As with Ashes to Go, it started slowly. We were unsure (imagine timid Episcopalians talking to, OMG!, strangers!), the people whose laundry we were offering to pay for were unsure (What's the catch?), and the first couple of Saturdays were not very busy. Last Saturday, we were hus-tling to find an empty washer, the kids had fun doing crafts with my wife and me, and we ran out of donuts. God honors our stepping out in ways we can't even imagine. Sharon, thank you again for your thoughts and encourage-ment. May God bless you with ministry that calls you into the unsure places. Yours in Christ, Bill+

Dear St. Christopher Family,
“Who am I that you are mindful of me, that you hear me when I call? Is it true that you are think-ing of me, how you love me? It’s AMAZING! I am
a friend of God. I am a friend of God. I am a friend of God, He calls me friend.”
-Friend of God lyrics We have begun singing this song, “Friend of God.” After we finish singing the song, I like to ask the children, “How does that song make you feel?” Everyone shouts, “Good!” During the months of February and March, we ob-serve Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday, Lent, and Easter. As we observe these seasons and holi-days, we will hear Bible Stories about Jesus’ life. It is my prayer that the children will marvel (today and in the future) at Jesus’ power, words, love, and His actions. Please pray with me over the next few months for our young children to begin to grasp this AMAZING love! In Christ, Valerie Perkins, Director

Each year we truly are at a loss to find adequate words to thank you for your incredible generosity and support of the people served by The Presbyterian Night Shelter. I have determined that each of you has cleverly disguised wings under your shirts and blouses. It must be true.
Your continued involvement with our children such joy and com-fort to our residents. Providing coats for the children is a huge un-dertaking, not without stress as many of the sizes are not exact. Margaret and her volunteers somehow roll with the punches and make all of it work. I am amazed!
“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank ac-count was, the type of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
To each of you a happy, healthy 2018. Thank you, friends.
Fondly, Harriet Willis
Please convey to the congregation Brite Divinity School’s deep ap-preciation of St. Christopher’s partnership with Brite in equipping persons to lead in the ministry of Christ’s church, the academy, and public life as witnesses to God’s reconciling and transforming love and justice.
Through the Episcopal Studies program we prepare leaders for the Episcopal Church. But, this is only one of the positive outcomes of this partnership. The teaching of Assistant Professor Ed Waggoner in the Rt. Reverend Sam B. Husley Chair in Episcopal Studies and the weekly celebration of Episcopal Eucharis in Robert Carr Chapel, making better know the richness of the Episcopal tradition, signifi-cantly impact the intellectual and spiritual lives of students, faculty and staff from several denominations. Know that St. Christopher’s contributions to this vital partnership are much appreciated!

Sandwich Makers Needed In 2018 we are continuing our ministry to Tarrant County parolees
by providing 30 sack lunches on the 3rd Tuesday of each month to
men and women coming out of incarceration and attending all-day
initial orientation classes. These lunches consist of sandwiches,
chips, cookies, and a note to each recipient that we at St. Chris-
topher's are praying for their successful re-entry to the communi-
ty. Two sandwich makers are needed monthly to make 15 sand-
wiches each. The church provides the rest and an MOE Commit-
tee member delivers the lunches. Sign-up sheet is located on bulle-
tin board in the Parish Hall.
Lenten Celtic Reflections Please join Emily Williams at St. Christopher on Saturday, March
17 from 9:00 - 12:00 for a Lenten Celtic Reflections. If you have
any questions, contact Emily Williams [email protected] or
