VOCATIONS

Jesus still speaks the invitation, “Come, follow Me!” If God is calling you to the priesthood or religious life, what is holding you back? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535. Check out “Priest of the Month” stories on our website-www.buffalovocations.org!

INVITATION TO MINISTRY All of us have been given talents to serve. Do you feel called to serve in our parish? We invite you to consider a ministry such as a greeter, welcoming people to our church. Maybe the proclamation of the Scriptures is your calling as a lector. We have sick and elderly in nursing homes and some homebound. Would you like to be a Minister of Holy Communion to them? Our parish is active in many ways. .

JUNE 26, 2016 THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY

TIME The Sunday Gospels for the remainder of this liturgical year will take place while Jesus is on the “journey to Jerusalem” that begins in today’s Gospel. He has a clear idea of who he is and where he is going. As we gather here today, perhaps our prayer can be for the grace to follow Jesus on the way, doing what he asks us to do. 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21 Elisha left everything to inherit Elijah’s prophetic role. Galatians 5:1, 13-18 A proper use of freedom includes service to others, motivated by love. Luke 9:51-62 Jesus expects us to leave everything to follow Him.

FORTNIGHT OF FREEDOM The Bishops of the United States have called all the faithful to celebrate the Fortnight of Freedom from Tuesday, June 21 to Monday, July 4, 2016. This year’s theme emphasizes the many witnesses to religious freedom, both past and present. On Tuesday, June 21st a Vigil Mass will be led at 4:00 p.m. by Fr. Robert Zilliox at the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, 335 Doat St. The Concluding Mass will be at 4:00 p.m. with Fr. Jacek Mazur at the Carmelite Monastery, 75 Carmel Rd.

JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY In certain churches around the Diocese of Buffalo, our Bishop has designated a Holy Door for the Jubilee of Mercy. As in Rome where our Holy Father has blessed certain doors, as a symbol of entering into God’s Mercy, St. Joseph’s Cathedral has a holy door for our diocese. Our Lady of Victory Basilica National Shrine also has a holy door. We will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Victory on August 28th and pray the special prayer for the Holy Year. We will visit the Museum dedicated to Father Baker, tour the Basilica with Father Paul, and visit the gift shop. Those attending can also join the group for an afternoon lunch or dinner at the Wayside Family Restaurant on South Park Ave. We will car pool. But, we would like anyone interested to sign up. Sign up sheets will be available starting next week. There is no charge, but we would like to make a donation to the Basilica for its upkeep and for the cause of Father’s Baker’s beatification. Envelopes will be made available for a donation.
