She sat alone in her room

A small cupboard and a broom

The only things besides the bed

There wasnt a calendar on the wall

    Neither a clock nor picture

    Only a mirror

In it she had seen herself

    A child, a girl, a woman

She was born in the darkness

To a mother banished from light

She was the daughter of darkness

And in it she had grown

There was neither day nor night

    Only customers

    And darkness, darkness that

    Spread itself to every part

    Of the old house

And tracheid down, into the souls of all

    And yet her soul yearned

    The warmth of light

To bask in it, and spread it wide

    Alas she was of darkness

And that was all she had

    She waited like the bud

    For the sun

In the end, she wont wore her coat

    So much so

She cut the darkness with a shard of mirror

    And felt the warmth

A ray of light touched her soul

    Death had come for her

    1. ASIMO

It would be impossible to make a list of impressive androids without mentioning ASIMO, the first android to capture peoples imaginations, and the first to introduce the idea of practical, humanoid robots to the popular consciousness. ASIMO, whose name stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is a three-foot-tall robot that resembles a cross between a space suit and an iPod.

On the hardware side, the platform features a number of sensors, an operating time of several hours on one charge, and a full 57 degrees of freedom (including thirteen in each hand). ASIMO can walk up and down stairs, pick up and manipulate objects, and was the first robot to demonstrate the ability to run (albeit at a sedate, waddling pace of 3.7 miles per hour).

    2.PETMAN

PETMAN (Protection Ensemble Test MANnequin), is the product of Boston

Dynamics, a former DARPA contractor that was recently bought by Google.

PETMAN was designed to test hazmat suits for the military, making it probably one

of the best examples of feature creep in human history. It takes a special kind of

government contractor to go from testing hazmat suits to deciding to build a

Terminator instead. PETMAN is impressive in many ways. While the machine lacks

many of ASIMOs features (like hands, vision, and skin) it does have impressive legs

and extraordinary balance, allowing it to walk in a very human-like way across uneven

terrain. The human stride is essentially a series of controlled falls, and PETMAN

    emulates it excellently.

    3.NAO

NAO is a 58-cm tall humanoid robot. He is small, cute and round. You can't help but

love him! NAO is intended to be a friendly companion around the house. He moves,

recognizes you, hears you and even talks to you!

Since his birth in 2006, he has been constantly evolving to please, amuse, understand

and love you. In short, to one day become your friend.

Aldebaran created NAO to be a true daily companion. He is the little creature who

helps you be your best. His humanoid form and extreme interactivity make him really

    endearing and loveable.

While waiting to be ready for home use, NAO became a star in the world of

education. In more than 70 countries, he was used in computer and science classes,

from primary school through to university. Thanks to NAO, students can learn

programming in a fun and practical way. They can program him to walk, catch small

    objects and even dance!

He then conquered communities of developers, who recognised him as a powerful

and incredibly expressive medium for creating applications. Imagine all the things you

can do with NAO! A new world of applications has been opened, and the next step is

to make him available to everyone.

    4. MARTIN KELLYS FACE

ASIMO, NAO, and PETMAN are all very impressive, but none of these

robots look much like people. ASIMO and NAO are both the wrong size and

proportion. PETMAN looks like a T-800 wearing track shoes. These past failures

make Martin Kellys example that much more impressive. The eyes seem alive, and

the face moves naturally into a variety of convincing expressions. It almost seems like

the robot knows something that we dont. This is made all the more impressive by

the relatively simple robotic rig that articulates the face. If you couldnt see the table

through the back of its open mouth, it would almost seem alive. As it turns out,

building and animating a plausible human face is more a question of artistic

limitations than technological ones, and, as a result, turning artists with technical skill

loose on the problem works much better than simply allowing robotics grad students

to mess around with rubber and motors in a lab, which is presumably how the

uncanny valley girl came into existence.

    5.ATLAS

Atlas is a high mobility, humanoid robot designed to negotiate outdoor, rough

terrain. Atlas can walk bipedally leaving the upper limbs free to lift, carry, and

manipulate the environment. In extremely challenging terrain, Atlas is strong and

coordinated enough to climb using hands and feet, to pick its way through congested

spaces. Articulated, sensate hands will enable Atlas to use tools designed for human

use. Atlas includes 28 hydraulically-actuated degrees of freedom, two hands, arms,

legs, feet and a torso. An articulated sensor head includes stereo cameras and a laser

range finder. Atlas is powered from an off-board, electric power supply via a flexible

tether. Several copies of the Atlas robot are being provided as Government Furnished

Equipment for the DARPA Robotics Challenge program with delivery scheduled in

    the summer of 2013.

Made in India thats what made every Indian abroad smile inside when he sees

that on a tin can or a fabric in the best shopping results. The name itself had its quality.

But gone are the days when Made in India was the punch line that lend to give an

edge to those Indian made consumer products from all the other advanced foreign

good-just because it instilled a feeling of patriotism.

Time changed, technology changed, economy changed and so did India. We are

now part of a country that can deliver the best of services or goods at its command

and stand out on its own just because it had that old familiar things of patriotic luring,

people by India stuff because its good enough. We have indeed come a long way, we

can make in India, anything. Not just packed honey or cashews anything.

This is what instilled the thought of why not make everything in India, than even

Indian companies having to depend on their manufacturing units located offshore. And

sure enough, the brain whiz panel of Narendra Modi was quick enough to seize the

moment the right, blown-red hot time to market and ride on this wave of promoting

    manufacturing in India

Make in India became the flag ship mantra of the new government. Something

what the nation waited for after those stagnant 10 years of practical inactivity by the

UPA in terms of newer policies encouraging our economy. It gave a feeling this was

going to be the replication of the Gujarat model development that every nation envied

from barren lands to the property rich Gujarat. It did catch the thoughts of

entrepreneurs as well as Aim Admi.

  • BITS AND

    BYTES

    16 ECSA

Nevertheless did it stop the name sake promo. The idea led to easing of policy

to help manufacturing in India, new guidelines came. The promo lived up to its

expectation Indian companies as well as foreign giants pooled in right from BMW

settling up its Tamilnadu plant to Mahindra publishing full page advertisements of make

    India.

At a time when even small startup companies dream of offshore tax free heavens

and better futility shores, this wave did make a difference bringing back companies to

India. This was what analysts called reverse brain drain. Where companies including

home grown ones were loved to come back to India.

Though this idea was banked on make in India, what went unnoticed was the

fuel that it actually was make for India newer companies in India, soil would mean

newer jobs, never employment and in the long run prosperity to a country where the

major issue after poverty is unemployment and education the newer schemes would

guarantee jobs to the million left out with job

And indeed this was make for India. These communities helped power India.

Instead of the general notion of letting Indian companies run offshore and convince

yourself that they are making for India from a far off land which is supposed to reach

India in terms of taxes, this proved to be move practical

A little India of make in India by Modi but it fewer its brand value and sure

enough its market among companies and foreign level. Like Atal Bihari Vajpayees

controversial tagline of 2000s, India is shining, once again. The best we can do is ride

along the wave, try to do mere of our activities in India, however small it may be and

deep down that would actually be make for India. Something like what you call 2

    birds in one shot.

How many days has it been? Mira has no idea how long she had been

held captive. She was scared for her life. It has been days since she had been

locked in this hell. A small dark room, smelling of mould barely allowing

light through the tainted glass of the small window at the corner of the room.

Her prisoner brought her food seldom. Every time she felt footstep outside

the door, her skin crawled, her heart beating wildly in her throat. She knew

one day she would end up with being sold to the highest bidder.

Why? Why me? Why this life? She begged god for a way out. She

bargained. She cursed. Please, god, please, help me escape out of this hell on

earth. Tears rolled one after the other and in the deadly silence, there come

    no reply.

If way maybe a few hours or minutes (Mira wasnt sure) when the

divine intervened. At one end of the room, something shone faintly on the

ground. Mira felt about and grasped the tiny subject. She had a needle in her

hand. What use could this needle give her? She didnt know how to pick a

lock. Despaired she went back to her corner. Thats when she heard his

footsteps. She quickly laydown as if she were unconscious. He entered. She

sucked in her breath. She could fell him nearing her. He shook her as if to

wake her up. She did not respond. He shook again, more violently this time,

cursing. As quick as she could she plunged the needle into what felt like his

face. He let out a cry in pain. Taking her chance she ran out the door. She

ran through the corridor only at the end to be grabbed another man in white.

She screamed, kicked and clawed at him. He shouted out Mira! Mira! Calm

down. Get me two milligrams of diazaphem stat! Nurse where are you damn

it? Mira its me Dr. Kabeer. You are in hospital. You need to snap act of it.

Mira looked around, suddenly she was in a large hallway. Nurses all

around her. She felt a sharp pinch on her arm. The nurse pushed in the

muscle relaxers. Mira felt a warmth spread through her body. She calmed

down. Her eyes rolled back and she lost consciousness.

When she woke up she was chained to a bed. Whats real and whats

not, she didnt know she made a fist. Something pricked her palm. The

needle of hope still in her hand.

This year there were many movies which were huge commercial

hits or were show the talents of great actors and makers. But here I am

not talking about any such silver screen venture. But about two movies

which created by students, especially electronics and communication

students. They were the first directional ventures of Kannan Saju, our

class mate. The associates and actors were also our batch mates.

    KANAAKAZHCHAKAL

Kanakazhchakal is a micro movie which is about a length of 3

minutes and 18 seconds. Which describes 3 minutes in the life of a

blind girl, who listen to commentary of a boy near her about children

playing with ball. But at last brother of the girl comes and we find out

that, she were sitting in a bus stop not in a park then we realize that

the boy too was blind and he was describing the last thing he saw in

    his life.

The movie shows many clippings of small children who play in

a park. Which please our hearts. The visual effect which transform the

park into the busstop was very nice. The narrative of blind boy will

create a picture of the park in our mind. This movie teach us to find

    happiness in small things.

Krishnendu, Karthik, Kannan and Vishnu done an awesome

performance in front of the camera. And the camera team done a great

    2ND CHANCE

Second chance or Randamoozham is a short film by the same

Kannan Saju, which not only an entertainer but also gives a message

against smoking. The 8 minute 22 seconds gives us the charm of

college and strength of friendship. This movie got a lot of twists and

    turns.

The movie deals with the bad effects of smoking. The

protagonist of the movie is Sam Alex, played by Muhammad Amar.

Sam is a chain smoker, who spend most of his life with cigarette. All

his friends advice him not to do so, but he didnt care. One day he

came into class but nobody cares him. He greet his friends but nobody

treat him back. He become confused. Then he know news about his

death from his friends. That shook him. Suddenly Sam wake ups from

his sleep and realize that was a nightmare. He took the packet of

cigarette but drops it down. The movie ends with the scene Sam

deciding to quit smoking and living a good life.

Amar excelled in his role of Sam Alex. Muhammed Thaskeem,

Anfas, Leo Alexander done a wonderful performance. The whole class

took an effort to make this film a grant success. This movies shows

the whole class fighting against tobacco. Which gives an clear cut idea

about hazards of smoking. Kannan and his crew took a great effort to

spread the message for Stop Smoking campaign.

I congratulate Kannan for his great effort in making these 2

movies. And releasing it on YouTube and Facebook. Within a one

week time these two movies obtained more than a thousand views.

The making of these movies also became viral on Facebook and

whatsapp. I wish Kannan and everyone take part in this venture a very

fabulous future. These movies take the first positions in my favorite
