    INTRODUCTIONA copperore samplewas obtained rom Network 1 Copperof Vancouver,BritishColumbia for copperextraction n the Mackie Vat Leachbenchscale ig-columntest apparatus.Two boxesof 4 ore weighing20 kg and25 kg respectivelywerecrushed o 100% passing0.263 inchesusing the laboratoryscale aws and rollscrusher. Subsequently, lab extraction tests and 2 full jig-column tests wereundertaken t ORTRCH during the period from July 30 - September 0, 1997. Atotal recovered mshedore weight of 65.65kg was riffled down to 10.0kg, 10.15kg, 12.60kg and 32.20kg batches.The sm aller12.60kg riffled batchwas furtherriffled down to -250 kg for s izecharacterization ndcopperheadanalysis.

    OBJECTIVESThe principal objectiveof testwork undertaken n the Network 1 copperore wasto determine opper each ate and otal copperextractionattainable n the MackieVat LeachingJig (MVLJ) by simulation eaching n the ig-column apparatus.

    5.2 Bench ScaleTest #2Due to poor copper dissolution ates in Test #l, a secondbench scale test wasundertaken n a samplecrusheddown from minus I,& to 100%minus 10 mesh.From the original 12.60kg minus ! split, the entire samp lewas further ro llscrushed o 100%minus 10 mesh. Table4 shows he size characterization f theNetwork 1 copperore passing10mesh.For Test #2,232.1g of feed materialwas combinedwith 550 ml of distilled waterand concentratedHsSO4at pH = 1.5-2.0. Leachingcontinued or 167.5hourswith regularcoppersampling.Refer to Table5 for datacollectedduring Test#2.After the initial 167.5hour leachingperiod; the minus 10 mesh esiduewas acidandwater washed. The combined iltrate was assayedor copperand total copperextraction was calculated. The wet residuewas continued eachingwith freshpH = 1.5-2.0 HsSO4 eachant. An additional 115 hours of copper dissolutioncontinuedwith regularcoppersolutionsampling.Solution-basedopperextraction esultsareshown n Table6.Jn comparisonwith Test #l extractiondata, minus 10 mesh.feedmaterial eachesthe soluble copper dissolution limit in 100.5 hours versus 217.5 hours. An

    7. RECOMMENDATIONS. For the Network 1 copperore provided, he acid digestable opper (CuO,CusO) shouldbe accuratelydetermined. Additionally, x-ray diffractionshouldbe used o establish oppersulphide oncentrationsn the ore.

    . To maximize copper sulphidemineral recovery, Network 1 copper oreshould be ground to minus 200 mesh. Then, bench scale flotationtestwork would be undertaken or sulphidemineral collection. Flotationtailings would then be acid eachedn the Mackie Jig-columnapparatus.
