    Plans are innovators and inventors and canbe highly creative. They provide the seed andideas from which major developments spring.Usually they prefer to operate by themselves

    at some distance from other members of theteam, using their imagination and oftenworking in an unorthodox way. They tend tobe introverted and react strongly to criticismand praise. Their ideas may often be radicaland may lack practical constraint. They areindependent, clever and original and may beweak in communicating with other people ona different wave length.

    Role DefinitionsRESOURCEINVESTIGATORS Characteristics: Resource Investigators are oftenenthusiastic, quick-off-the-mark extroverts. They are

    good at communicating with people both inside andoutside the company. They are natural negotiators andare adept at exploring new opportunities anddeveloping contacts. Although not a great source of

    original ideas, the RI is effective when it comes topicking up other people's ideas and developing them.As the name suggests, they are skilled at finding outwhat is available and what can be done. They usuallyreceive a warm reception from others because of theirwarm outgoing nature. RIs have relaxed personalities

    with a strong inquisitive sense and a readiness to seethe possibilities in anything new. However, unless theyremain stimulated by others, their enthusiasm rapidlyfades.

Usually they have a highcritical thinking ability. They have agood capacity for shrewd judgementsthat take all factors into account. Agood ME is seldom wrong

    outsiders the ME may appear as dry, boringor even over-critical.     CO-ORDINATORS (CO)

    Characteristics: The distinguishingfeature of Co-ordinators is their ability

    to cause others to work towardsshared goals. Mature, trusting andconfident, they delegate readily. Ininterpersonal relations they are quickto spot individual talents and to use

    them in pursuit of group objectives.While COs are not necessarily thecleverest members of a team, theyhave a broad and worldly outlook andgenerally command respect.

    SHAPERS (SH) Characteristics: Shapers are highly motivated

    people with a lot of nervous energy and a needfor achievement. Usually they are aggressiveextroverts and possess strong drive.

    Function: SHs generally make good managersbecause they generate action and thrive underpressure. They are excellent at sparking life intoa team and are very useful in groups wherepolitical complications are apt to slow things

    down; SHs are inclined to rise above problems ofthis kind and forge ahead regardless. They arewell suited to making necessary changes and donot mind taking unpopular decisions.

    feasible and relevant.
