POVERTY STATISTICS

About 3 billion people (which accounts for about

half of the world population) live on less than

USD$2.50 a day.

DISASTROUS IMPACT OF POVERTY

According to UNICEF (United Nations International

Children's Emergency Fund), 22,000 children die everyday

because of poverty.

One in every 45 children in the U.S. is homeless each year

More than 1.6 million children in the U.S. are homeless

each year

Nearly a billion people entered the 21st

century unable to read a book or sign

their names.

ONE

A campaigning and advocacy organization

Organization of 3.5 million people taking action to

end extreme poverty and preventable diseases,

especially in Africa

HISTORY OF THEIR VENTURE

ONE was launched at a kick-off event in

Philadelphia in 2004 in which faith leaders, heads of

leading anti-poverty organisations, celebrities,

African activists and policymakers attended

In 2010, ONE signed up more than 2 million

members and developed to become a powerful

political force in support of better policies for

fighting poverty.

IMPACT OF THEIR VENTURE

Played a crucial role in the G8’s historic

commitment in 2005 to double funding to fight

poverty and disease in Africa

Helped secure $107 billion in debt relief for poor

countries for the past decade.

IMPACT OF THEIR VENTURE

 Helped to develop and secure funding for historic

AIDS initiatives, such as the US’s PEPFAR and the

Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria

Helped to pass legislation in the US and EU for

more transparency in the oil, gas and mining

industries to fight corruption and ensure these

resources benefit the poor.

WAYS TO HELP THE POOR

Set up homes for them

Distribute food to them

Raise funds to benefit them

Set up more schools in the poor countries
