    Dear Fr iends ,

    o

Pra ise t he Lord, we have been able to move on from Jeremiah to Isaiah: Theythat wait upon th e Lord shall renew the ir strength, and shall mount up with wingsas eagles. Thanks to God's great grace and your faithful prayers. His workingsamong us here in Hiroshima have become evident, and our strength has been renewed.

Perhaps yo u saw news in the Chris t ian Standard o r th e Turners newsle t te rabout our evengelistic meeting l as t November, and of th e baptism of a fine youngcouple. P rep ar at ion s fo r th e meeting were entered into over the objections ofSachiko and myselfwe were already to o busy fo r t h a t kind o f extra e f f o r t i Bu twe f e l t th e need, and so when the Ono church s ta f f drew up plans for us , we jus tprayed for th e extra energy and resources to follow them. We prayed together withour Bible classes and se t goals for finances, attendance, and decisionsand Godsupplied what, fo r us, was impossible. We had an attendance averaging 30 fo r thethree nights; 12 made decisions to learn more about Jesus or to become disciples.ReZko and Kimltaka Mlgamoto hadn t even been able to come Friday night, butcalled on Saturday af ternoon saying, We want to be baptized; what do we do?So we told them, and on Sunday, Dec.l, in the large bath of the dormitory of theschool where I taught , they were born again in to New Life in Jesus 1 After ourlas t service on Sunday evening, 10 of us who had worked hard for th e meetingshared together in praise and prayer. As I prayed, truly I f e l t as i f I had a tlas t been released from a tiny cage, and was free to run and dance, even to flyl

I wanted to write to you r igh t away about a l l those blessings, but we had tos t a r t r ight away on Christmas ac t iv i t i es . This year we rented a meeting hal l , andou r J r . High Bible class did a puppet play on the nat iv i ty. . The ladies Bibleclass helped bake cookies; High School and college kids helped with decorationsand clean-up. We were able to share th e GOOD NEWSof Jesus birth to 75 grade-school kids, and 25 of assorted other ages. On Christmas night we had a quietcandle service for th e adults, and praised God for th e Light He has given us .

Most of the holidays Sachiko and I spent t rying to throw o ff colds and sorethroats , a t which we were largely unsuccessful. I had had pos t -card gree t ingsprinted so I could send them to th e States for Christmas and in Japan for NewYears; finally got some of f in Japan, but most of you will have to wait unt i lnext year for yours (Sor ry about tha t ) . And, t he w in te r holidays ended withth e now-famous ref ra in , Well, I can do a l l tha t during Spring vacation. . . .

Now spring vacation has come and gone, but a t la s t some accomplishmentshave been made. Our colds seem to be gone. I had an zyz cAecfe-up Zn Jaywavvy,no pAobZms, 6o now ja Z a yojoJity c/iecfe-up.
