    was

    our

    Sunday

    School Christmas

    program.

Because of invi ta t ions

    from

Tokyo, we f ina l ly

    decided

    to have

    it

    on the

    18th ins tead

    of

    th e 25th , and then s ta r ted prac t ic ing

    songs

    and f lash-card s to r ie s ,

    baking cookies, and

    gett ing

nervous. Sachiko thought about 30 kids would come; I

    f igured 50,

    since we

    had

invi ted various c lasses and community kids . Praise the

    Lord,

    there

    were 74 He dragged in

    extra

    chairs ,

    put

    people on

    top

    of each other,

    watered down the Kool-aid,

    s pre ad o ut

    the

    cookies,

    and

    had

    a hec t ic , bu t marvelous

    t ime. I

    r ea l i zed t ha t

    we sure

    a r e n t

    ready

    to

    handle tha t

    many

    every Sunday,

    bu t

    Sachiko and I spent a r es t fu l 10 days in

    Tokyocelebrating

    Christmas

    eve

    with

hei home congreation, a tt en di ng t he wedding of a mutual fr iend,

    vis i t ing

    various f r i ends .

    I rea l ly

enjoyed shar ing an o ld -f as hi on ed f ell owshi p d inn er

with the Tokyo-area missionar ies , and

    praying

    in the

    new

    Paul

    and

    Hark

    Isehara

    Hel l ,

    the Year of the

    Horse

    has

    brought

    not

    only our regular ac t iv i t i e s , but

    need fo r

    decis ions .

The Turners have vrri t ten t ha t they

    wants

    us

    to come

    So

    Sachiko

    and I

    are

    t rying to

    decide

vrhat we rea l ly want to

    do. Despite the

    continuing

    language studyand jus t l as t

    week, I

    found tha t

    I

    can

    get

    into

    a

    universi ty

    class

that had been completely closed to

    me

    before.

After th inking, praying, and deciding to s tick i t out, Sachiko and I have

    started

    looking

    for a room to renta

    place of ou r

    own in

    which

    to

    grow.

    Ue have

    found two marvelous possibilities,

    to

    the

    tune

    of about 1,200 do m and 225 a

    month,

    not

    counting the

    needed

    furnishings. For

    us,

    of

    course,

    this is impossible?

    b u t God is able

    Ue

    really need your

    prayersnot only for

    the

    wisdom

    of

    making the r ight

    decisions,

    but

for the strength and foresight to carry them out.

    Please

    pray that

    mi

    my

    teaching and

    study schedule will allow me

time to vis i t and

    make

    friends

    in

    the

cimmunity. Pray that Sachiico wil l

    be able

    to find

    an

outlet fo r work in psychology

or counseling, which she i s wanting very much

    to

    do.

And join with us in prais ing God in everything.

    D ear O nes,

    Right

    Dea r One s,

    Thank you so much for

    your

    continued prayers and

    encouragements.

    I hope you ve

gotten the most recent TARGETS and have prayed with us about HESAKA

    CHRISTIAN

    CENTER

How thankful we are fo r the

    used benches

    and

    desks

    from

    the Jogakuin school, and

    for

    the

    new

    things

    we

have been able to buy as

    God provides the

    funds

    To star t

    developing

    a program

    of

    English

    and

    Bible

    studies

    at

    the

    Center,

    I

began a class for high school

    students.

The class is an hour and a half weekly 50

    minutes

    of English

conversation, a 10 minute brealc and 30 minutes

    of

    Bible

    study

    in

    English.

    I had no

    idea how

    many

    students

    would

    come}

    we put inserts

    in the

    Hesaka

    newspapers and prayed. The

    f i r s t

class, there were two gir ls and two boys, and

    the

next week one boy brou^ t a fr iend.

    How

pleased I am to have some fellows in a

c la ss fo r a change And how I hope

    they wil l

    come

    to

    love Jeses.

    Hell, I m sorry

    I haven t

    written for such

    a

    long

    time,

    Since

    the new

    school

year began in April, I have been really living one day a t a t imeeach day

    there

    has

    been just

    barely enough

    time to get

    ready for

    the next

    day. Haybe I

    could have

    cau^t up a l i t t le on Fridays my day off),

    but

    by then I m so

    relieved

    not to have

to go somewhere I jus t

    absolutely have

    rebelled

    a t

    doing

    anything

    I

    ought to do.

    Summer

    vacation

    s tarted

    jus t

    today,

    so

    maybe now I

    can

    get

    cau^ t

    up.

    There

    are

    so

    many

    more

    things

    that could be

    done

    i f there

    were

    more t ime, or

    more

    money, or

    more

    people But we just keep

    hanging

    in there,

hoping that God can use the

    l i t t le

    bit

    that

    we re

    able

    to

    give Him.

Not too long ago, I went shopping a t a different grocery store. Now that

doesn t sound too exciting, but I

    ran

into Kuniko Akiyoshi, whom I haxin t seen for

quite some t ime. She seemed so happy

    to

see me, and when I to ld

    her about

    our new

    meeting place,

    she came to worship

    with

    us the

    next

    Sunday. Kuniko graduated from

    college in

    ^^axch

    and

    af te r

    tha t was

    s ick

    fo r about

    a

    month, almost

    to

    the points o f

    death.

    She thou^t

    a lot about life

    and

    death and God and now

    wants

    to study the

    Bible

    seriously

    to

    find the answers

    to

    he r ques tions.

Pray with us fo r Kuniko, for

    her

    ihysical

    and

    sp i r i tua l

hea l th and praise God

    for

    His

    Providence

    Probably

    your summer i s

    ha l f over,

    but

    ours

    i s jus t

    please

    pray
