Waste Disposal

• Ask your teacher where/how to dispose of waste.

• Never pour anything down the drain unless you are told to do so.

Reasons for proper waste disposal

• Hazardous chemicals down the drain can lead to pollution of ground water, lakes, rivers, etc.

• Plants and animals will die if they are exposed to hazardous chemical waste.

• Serious health problems will become present in people if hazardous waste finds its way into drinking water.

1. Wear safety goggles when handling chemicals, glassware, or sharp objects.

2. Do not rub your eyes with your hands until you wash them.

Preventing Fires:

1. Do not light fires near flammable chemicals or material

2. Do not play with matches, lighters, or hot plates.

3. Pull hair back into ponytail

4. Do not wear loose or baggy clothing

Responding to Fires:

1. Inform the teacher immediately

2. Use the fire extinguisher to put out fires; do NOT use on humans.

3. Suffocate the fire by covering it with a non-flammable container or use the fire blanket.
