Satisfying client needs requires providing fast service, the best quality printing and strong support. These are the main reasons that led Artecomp to recently purchase the EFI™ VUTEk® GS3250lx Pro printer with 7 picolitre UltraDrop™ Technology, equipped with cardboard print module and HDR for heavy duty printing using rolls of up to 3.2 metres. Gema Rivas, Client Development Manager for Artecomp, explains that the investment is making the business grow. Quino Rivas, the company’s Technical Director, confi rms that both quality and production speed have increased threefold with this new printer, which brings with it numerous benefi ts.

Their conclusion is that buying the printer was the right decision. The brother and sister team are worthy successors to Joaquin Rivas, the company’s founder who, together with other partners, set up Artecomp in 1981. His entrepreneurial vision allowed him to manage the business for many years until he passed the baton to his children. He made sure they were well trained to ensure continued quality. Gema, a graduate in Administration and Business Management, and Quino, a specialist in prepress and colour management, are the perfect team to ensure Artecomp features among the most reputable companies in the sector.

Artecomp off ers a complete visual communication service using materials as varied as foam, Forex, Dibond, methacrylate, tiles and textiles, which is why big multinational brands entrust the company with their large format digital printing jobs, to be distributed throughout Spain. The company can also provide any other graphic design element the client may need, such as fl yers, invitations, labels etc.

Wide range of products

The secret of the wide and diversifi ed range of products the company off ers is due to the fact that it recently purchased the EFI VUTEk GS3250lx Pro printer. This versatile, effi cient, aff ordable, and environmentally

Adding new technology that increases

friendly printer uses LED curing and UltraDrop Technology, and can handle both rigid and flexible media, as well as single-pass multilayer white ink printing. All these features allow more jobs to be completed, they increase the range of applications with more substrates, and they reduce operating costs with big energy savings.

The EFI VUTEk GS3250lx Pro printer arrived at Artecomp to replace another EFI machine, the VUTEk GS2000, which had been in service for 7 years. For Gema, it was the right time to invest and make a quantum leap, focusing on the short-term future and gaining more clients. “Our father taught us that the only way to move forward is to remain current... Therefore, one of our cornerstones is to invest in new equipment every four years. We are always open to trying new things, but after the positive experience we’ve had with EFI over the years, we decided to stick with them. This is due to both the equipment being outstanding (and their technical support even more so), and their expert staff, who know the equipment inside out and are diligent and committed.”

Gema Rivas is satisfied with Artecomp’s investment in the EFI VUTEk GS3250lx Pro printer. “It can handle eight colours, plus it has a white ink multilayer printing capacity and greyscale technology that allow us to use multiple applications and perform jobs in methacrylate, for example, or use selective white for a light box. On top of that, we benefit from the printer’s speed: We have gone from 20 m²/hr. to 70 m²/hr. of high-quality production and the benefits speak for themselves.”

Initially focused on photocomposition, Artecomp was set up in 1981 by graphic design professionals. Currently offering comprehensive printing and digital printing services, the company comprises a team of 15 people and it benefits from using the most advanced equipment in prepress, digital printing and large-format signage.

Artecomp offers consulting services to its clients and provides solutions that add value. The company provides maximum market quality using the best materials for the job, and managing every step of the process through quality control systems that guarantee an excellent job, completed in record time. It is no coincidence that the company motto is “The best quality in record time.”

Quino adds: “The LED technology is also really important, because the lamps, which operate at a low temperature, mean we can work with many substrates with no distortion, as well as save energy. Equally as important is the UltraDrop 7 picolitre technology, which means we can print HD images, or print continuously on rigid media using rolls of up to 3.2 metres. There is no doubt that this is a very complete printer.”

Benefits and savings

Francisco Javier Martinez, EFI’s Inkjet Sales Manager for Spain, explains that, “UltraDrop Technology offers smaller drop sizes and more precise control thanks to the 7-pL native variable drop print heads. Being able to use different drop sizes means the printer adapts according to the colour and image, which gives the printing a look that is closer to continuous tone. This printer is the only one on the market at the industrial high speed level that has 7-pL, variable-drop print heads.”

“Thanks to this technology, we can take on small-format printing with good, sharp resolution for four point text in both standard and reverse, with fewer satellites and better clarity in all printing modes. This also means we can achieve an exceptional level of uniformity for shadows, gradients, and transitions,” confirms Quino.

“With the EFI VUTEk GS3250lx Pro at Artecomp, we also save on operating costs, thanks to reduced energy use, fewer replacement parts, and the reduction of residual costs thanks to uniform colour distribution and easy operation. And the printer is environmentally friendly thanks to the fact that it is virtually free of volatile organic compounds,” says Martinez.

Future plans

These improvements mean orders are up, and the company needs to keep thinking about new investments in both hardware and staff. “The next step will be investing in post-production so as not to create

bottlenecks and to employ a few more staff members to increase output,” says Gema. “It is clear that machines are essential, but at Artecomp, we are also convinced that people are the foundation of the company. We have 15 staff members who dedicate their entire professional lives to us. They make sacrifices wherever necessary by working off hours. That is only possible when you have really dedicated staff.”

Gema sees this as the company’s real value, which is then passed on to the client. “We don’t limit ourselves to just printing. We get really involved with the client’s work, make assessments and, where possible, suggest improvements. This means that we are not only viewed as purveyors of quality, but also as consultants. This is exactly what we want, to establish a relationship with the client that means that as well as providing all our standard services, we can also solve their problems.”

Gema concludes: “Using the EFI VUTEk GS3250lx Pro printer has been a dream come true because, since day one, it has been evident that it is the ideal printer for our company’s objectives. Now we need to capitalise on all the machine’s potential and get the most from it. To do this, we are diversifying. For example we are moving into decoration, where we can produce spectacular effects on various different materials. And this is only the beginning.”
