Opinion differs on ‘municipal councils’Several MPs said pressuring govt to dismiss oil minister

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: Par-liamentary opinion is divided between the launch of munici-pal councils in each governor-ate and to retain the current Municipal Council, reports Al-Rai daily.

Due to ambiguity in the roadmap of the Municipal Council between continuation and cancellation, a number of MPs urged the govern-ment to delay taking any step on the Municipal Council without in-volving the council in its decision.

MP Khalil Al-Abdullah says the current situation of the Municipal Council is an evidence of the govern-ment’s inability as well as the absence of a clear vision, similar to the issue related to privatization of Kuwait Air-ways.

He stressed that the government does not know whether it wants the Municipal Council to continue as it is or to cancel it so that municipal coun-cils can be established in each gover-norate, adding,

“Even if the government decides on the second option of launching municipal councils in each gover-norate, it would not know how to implement it”.

Also, MP Saadoun Hammad said he is in support of the continuation of the current Municipal Council, indicat-ing that he had presented a proposal to amend some provisions of the law

MoSAL to ‘reshuffle’ number of top officialsKUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: A meet-ing among the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Min-ister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh, her consultant Abdullah Al-Hajji and the Acting Director of Public Authority for Manpower Mubarak Al-Jafour was held re-cently, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources from Public Au-thority for Manpower.

They explained that the officials agreed on reshuffling a number of senior officials of the ministry. The

affected officers will include the Di-rector of Interview and Employment Department Ahmed Al-Musa who will take up the position of deputy director of Department of Manpower Protection.

The current Deputy Director of Department of Manpower Protec-tion Abdullah Al-Mutawtah will be appointed as the deputy director of the Planning and Professional Quality Authorization Depart-ment.

The lawmaker explained that his proposal aims at dividing the con-stituencies into six in the six gover-norates.

The representa-tion is in accor-dance with the population of each constituency. The proposal will en-sure the most ap-propriate representation of the prov-inces in the Municipal Council and will work to include all the residential cities in the electoral tables unlike the

status quo, which deprived some ar-eas from voting in the municipal elec-tions.

Meanwhile, several MPs are put-ting pressure on the Government to dismiss the Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Essam Al-Marzouq, and to separate Oil portfolio from Electricity and Water for a member of the National Assembly to manage, reports Anna-har daily.

For his part, Al-Marzouq com-mented on the allegations of ap-pointments and alleged packages offered to oil sector retirees, stress-

ing the retirees are not reappointed while the previous system of pack-ages was canceled since 2013.

He reaffirmed that Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) and the marketing sector are 100 percent managed by Kuwaiti experts. He also said the company has formed a neu-tral investigative committee to review and resolve the complaints of workers in the marketing sector.

Al-Marzouq reiterated that ex-change of executive positions in EQUATE is in line with agreement between the two main partners — the Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) and Dow Chemical, on condi-tion that PIC takes the Chairman of the Board of Directors post.

KD 12,670,000 projects in AugKUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: Changes in orders related to a number of projects being carried out by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Ministry of Health, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Kuwait University, Ministry of Public Works and Ministry of Electricity in August amount-ed to KD 12,670,000, reports Al-Shahid daily.

The State Audit Bureau had earlier rejected a tender worth KD 3 million for changing and maintaining cables in Jahra Governorate, indicating the amount should be KD 1,000,000 only but it increased due to typographical error.
