Opinion differs on ‘municipal councils’ Several MPs said pressuring govt to dismiss oil minister KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: Par- liamentary opinion is divided between the launch of munici- pal councils in each governor- ate and to retain the current Municipal Council, reports Al- Rai daily. Due to ambiguity in the roadmap of the Municipal Council between continuation and cancellation, a number of MPs urged the govern- ment to delay taking any step on the Municipal Council without in- volving the council in its decision. MP Khalil Al-Abdullah says the current situation of the Municipal Council is an evidence of the govern- ment’s inability as well as the absence of a clear vision, similar to the issue related to privatization of Kuwait Air- ways. He stressed that the government does not know whether it wants the Municipal Council to continue as it is or to cancel it so that municipal coun- cils can be established in each gover- norate, adding, “Even if the government decides on the second option of launching municipal councils in each gover- norate, it would not know how to implement it”. They explained that the officials agreed on reshuffling a number of senior officials of the ministry. The affected officers will include the Di- rector of Interview and Employment Department Ahmed Al-Musa who will take up the position of deputy director of Department of Manpower Protection. The current Deputy Director of Department of Manpower Protec- tion Abdullah Al-Mutawtah will be appointed as the deputy director of the Planning and Professional Quality Authorization Depart- ment. The State Audit Bureau had earlier rejected a tender worth KD 3 million for changing and maintaining cables in Jahra Governorate, indicating the amount should be KD 1,000,000 only but it increased due to typographical error.
