ABOUT

THEMEAIESEC for Asia Pacific: Mobilising Young

People to Achieve the SDGs

In September this year, the United Nations adopted the new global agenda for sustainable development in New

York. The UN member states, governments, business, experts and leaders committed to address 17 sustainable

development goals in the next 15 years for a better world.

Currently, almost 50% of the world’s population is under 25 years old. Moreover, today’s generation of youth is the largest one in history. If together we invest in them now,

we are ensuring that young people are becoming key players today and top leaders of tomorrow who can utilise

the enormous potential to make the goals happen and build a better world.

In order for them to be ready, together we need to ensure that young people are aware, engaged and acting upon

the sustainable development agenda.

TOPICSSustainable Development Goals

When choosing the topics to complement the theme of this year’s Global Youth Speak Forum, we took different criteria into account such as results of the YouthSpeak Survey about which issue young people care about the most, external context and reality of each region and many others.

Based on all the criteria above, the following topics emerged as predominant: •Quality Education •No poverty •Zero Hunger •Reduced inequalities •Climate Action
