“Presidential” ObservationsPresident Jan – reminded us about the five 5 club social at the Rotary Field House on April 11th.

Rotary MinuteRalph researched the history and significance of ‘invocations’ within Rotary. Messaging is a club and collective members’ decision. If you cannot make your duty, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – MAY 3RD

The major beneficiary will be the Island Crisis Care Society – for their operation of Samaritan House which provides services for women in crisis.

Because we are bit earlier this year, Fairwinds has given us a bit of a deal on the green fees, $700 off the normal cost.

Sponsorship and Registration Forms were e-mailed to all members on February 14th, as were letters you can use to ask for a sponsorship and/or a prize.

Sheila & Rachel are tracking registrations. Randy is tracking sponsors. If you give him a

good lead, he will follow up. Dave E is tracking prizes – which you bring in

from our supporters. “Good” prizes, please. Jodie will be coordinating volunteers. We will

need some Rotarians to help with set-up in the AM and out on the course during the event.

Next planning meeting is April 4th.

Nanaimo Community Kitchens…

Is a non-profit society offering several “Cooking Together to Create a Healthy Community” programmes in Nanaimo for the past 28 years.

Run by a volunteer board, with one paid member, in 2017 they produced over 3,000 meals for 1300 people in weekly group cooking sessions.

The principle objective of the Society is to provide access to economical, nutritious food for families and individuals living on a restricted income. Secondary goals are to help participants build skills, knowledge, friendships and self-esteem.

Including in-kind donations, annual operating costs are approximately $ 80,000. Funding support comes from several government agencies, local business, service clubs and churches.

Canada Food Guide

Anita Smith introduced us to the new Canada Food Guide. As consumers, we need to remember that food companies want to make money. Healthy eating is our responsibility and it is more than the foods we eat. It is also about where, when, why and how we eat. We need to eat a variety of healthy foods every day, limit highly processed foods, make water our drink of choice and read food labels.
