Tiger Woods and Golf Tournaments

2014 has proven to be another difficult year for Tiger Woods. The former World Number 1 has

struggled with injury and his results from the few starts he has made in various Golf Tours around

the world have left him and his millions of followers disappointed. A return to the form that Woods

once displayed is growing less likely with each passing year and his quest to eclipse Ja k Ni klaus’ record of 18 majors seems to be fading fast.

The demise of Tiger is disappointing for many reasons. Since he burst onto the Golfing scene with

victory in the 1997 US Masters, he has not only been the most recognisable golfer in the world, but

arguably the most recognised sportsman. He also put the game of golf back into the imaginations of

many past and aspiring players and the Tiger effect has always been a positive for the game.

On the other hand, the man that many people have long predicted to take over from Tiger as the

biggest name in golf, has had a stellar year. Rory M Ilroy’s Ope Cha pio ship, USPGA Championship and more than $8M in prize money from these and other victories around the world,

mean he has the stats and the game, to be quite obviously the best golfer on the planet. 2015

pro ises to e e e igger for Rory ith the year’s first ajor, The US Masters, the o ly ajor he needs to join legends of the game such as Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead, Gary Player and Tiger Woods as

the only men to win all four major championships in their careers.

With M Ilroy’s ajesti play ofte aki g a o kery of e e the toughest layouts, it is also pleasi g to see the A eri a Bu a Watso featuri g i the i er’s ir le. The left ha ders a ility to tame

courses with his superb shot making and huge drives make him one of the most followed players

anywhere on tour. Wearing his heart on his sleeve and never afraid to let people know what he is

thinking has Watson standing out as one of the great characters of the game. With so many

professional sportsmen now seemingly stale, Bubba is just the type of personality the game of golf

needs.
