Welcome to1st Grade!

Things you can do to help your child this year.

• Send your child with a backpack daily.• Look in your child’s backpack daily.• Help your child with their homework

daily.• Read with your child 20 minutes a day.• Encourage your child to talk about

school.• Please make sure your child attends

school on time daily.

The following items are used regularly throughout the year. We greatly appreciate donations of these items at anytime.

Glue SticksTissuesLysol/Clorox wipesPaper TowelsPencilsDry Erase MarkersFine Tip dry erase markersSandwich bags (zip top)Snack bags (zip top)Gallon sized bags (zip top)Ream of white paper

Notice: The items on this list will be used during the regular school day. They may be brought from home on a voluntary basis. Otherwise, they will be furnished by the school.

There are a few things that can distract from learning in the classroom, such as pens, markers, pencil sharpeners, and toys. We appreciate your help in having your child keep these items at home.

Classroom Donations

Birthdays

Birthdays are important in first grade. We will make cards for each child on their birthday. You may send a treat if you wish, but it is not expected.

Guidelines from the Health Department mandate that any treat has to be store bought and in the original wrapping. Due to allergies, nonfood items are preferred (pencils, stickers, erasers, book donation to the class).

For the children with a birthday in the summer we will celebrate their birthday the week they are Star of the Week.

Homework

• A homework folder will come home every day. This homework should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Please make sure the homework folder comes back to school each day.

• Students should be reading 20 minutes each night. A reading log is in their homework folder for recording their minutes. Return completed log each Monday. The goal is 100 minutes a week.
