###

Assemblyman Dan Stec (R,C,I-Queensbury) talks with highway superintendents and local leaders from his district at a press conference Wednesday.

Assemblyman Dan Stec (R,C,I-Queensbury), along with town and county highway superintendents, attended a press conference Wednesday held by Sen. Tom OMara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) to support local infrastructure by pushing for an increase in funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS). Legislators and local officials are seeking an additional $200 million in CHIPS funding in this years budget as well as $500 million to fund a new, five-year State Aid to Local Roads, Bridges and Culverts Program that would be partially funded by the states settlement surplus.

CHIPS is especially important to localities in my district, Stec said. Colder Adirondack temperatures take their toll on roads and bridges and cause severe ice wedging around the four counties I represent. Our families will travel with much better peace of mind if they know we have the resources to quickly repair roads and bridges when they become damaged. As a longtime town supervisor, I know the fiscal stress placed on our municipalities to repair faulty infrastructure. Increased state funding will take the burden off our already-stretched town budgets.###
