Alan Mortiboys Presentation at Inspiring Enterprise 2011

TRANSCRIPT

Inspiring Learning, Inspiring

Teaching

‘The pace was a little slow at the start and

we were short of time at the end but

otherwise it was good, once I got into tune

with the lecturing style that seemed a little

vague and unfocussed at first.’

‘Clear structure, not too much Powerpoint,

great. Well organised and presented.

Inspirational.’

John Hattie‘s 3 attributes of expert

Challenge

Deep representation

Monitoring and feedback

How do you anticipate that meeting?

What makes it attractive/appealing?

How do you prepare?

Preparing for a teaching session is like preparing for ..

Just what are you preparing for?

‘There’s no doubt that this is a risky

approach. The sessions are tiring to

facilitate but they are extremely enjoyable.

There is a strong reliance on the adaptability

of the staff – this is not something for the

timid.’

‘It’s important to take risk. At one level it’s

invigorating but it’s also inspirational.’

Think of one question or comment that you have in relation to the content of this session so far.

Make a pair. Hear each other’s questions/ comments and decide which one you would prefer to ask/say.

Make a four. Hear each pair’s questions/ comments and decide which one you would prefer to ask/say.

Can I use the content of this session to

influence my teaching? If so, how? If not,

why not?
