HOMESCHOOLING VS.

PUBLIC SCHOOLING

By Madeline Fang ~ Period 3 ~ Stafford

BACKGROUND

Public schooling is the most popular but

homeschooling is growing

Public schooling tends to get a bad wrap

On-going debate because there is no right answer

(as to whether home or public education is better),

which ever fits best should be taken

HOMESCHOOLING PROS

Free to choose curriculum and schedule

Cheaper

More one-one-one teaching

Teaches independence when making learning

choices

Safer and more comfortable environment

Less peer pressure

HOMESCHOOLING CONS

Fewer opportunities in learning, academics, arts,

etc.*

Less social interaction

Family must invest a lot of time

Teachers aren’t always qualified

Colleges sometimes have stricter admission

policies

Tend to follow in their parents footsteps *

PUBLIC SCHOOLING PROS

More curriculum opportunities

Group setting

Availability of extra-curricular activities

Diverse social education

Closer to reality

Schools are funded

PUBLIC SCHOOLING CONS

Large classes, less one-on-one learning

Scheduled learning (less independence)

School chosen curriculum

Peers based on area and not choice

Stressful

Bullying and lacks cleanliness

OUTLOOK

Continue to be a controversy because the

right answer depends on the student

The number of home schooled students is

growing greater and greater every year
