Commercialisation and hi income spin-offs

We have commercialised about 42 products that provide economic

business and social business.

We have equity in some of the products that we license.

We have generated MLabs – a public listed company based on USM R&D

Establish our own incubator and research park called sains@usm

science & arts innovation space

• sains@usm is a nexus where people, ideas, sciences, technologies, the arts, academia and industry intersect and fuse to generate new ideas, products and solutions that contribute to a sustainable tomorrow and addresses the needs of communities at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid.

• “SynergisingCreativity, Nurturing Enterprise“ encapsulates this vision of sains@usm.

STATUS OF USM’s NEW

CONSTITUTION

The drafting of the new constitution started in January 2009 and has gone through intensive scrutiny by officers from the KPT, AG Chambers and USM representatives.

The draft formally submitted to AG Chambers on 25th

March 2010 for approval before gazzette.

The draft contains: USM’s requests on autonomy and empowerment USM’s own “wish list”

The Constitution is meant to be a preliminary measure pending the enactment of an Apex University Act or an Apex University Schedule.

…the articulation of governance…towards R&D unfortunately, is still in “compliance” mode of a tick-box (based on old foundation) approach…or else…

The gap: Can a tick box approach to, or a rigid compliance with the guidelines or rules [set on old foundation] accelerate the laying of new foundation for RU? APEX?

Audititist:The Governance Gap

Governance [audit] cannot be that a single process will always be the best process for every imaginable business or business transaction in the world espR&D.

…rather is it about applying our minds as to what is the best process for the business of the organisation or for a particular transaction [eg APEX]… which can be negated by the rigidly (mindless) compliance-or-else regime.
