Anne FrankAnne frank was born in 1929. Her parents were Otto and Edith Frank. She also had a sister named Margot that was a few years older than her. She would loved her diary so much she named it Kitty. When the Holocaust was over she wanted to make it into a novel, but she wasn’t able to do that. Her dad was the one who had to tell her story.

Miep Gies

Miep was born in Vienna in 1909. Her parents sent her to the Netherlands to recuperate from tuberculosis and malnutrition. Miep worked at Opekta and helped the Frank family while in hiding. After the frank family was captured Miep found Anne’s diary. When Otto came back to live with Miep and her husband, she gave Otto the diary. Miep died in January 2010 at the age of 100.

Otto Frank

Otto Frank was Anne Franks father. He was the only one to survive the Holocaust. He fought in world war one on the German side. This was ironic because the Germans were the one who killed his family. Otto worked for a company called the Dutch Opekta Company. Later on they sold sausages and spice mixtures.

The Secret annexThe secret annex was located in the attic. This is the place where Anne and her family hid from the Germans. Hermann and Auguste van Pels with their son Peter, and Fritz Pfeffer also hid with the Franks. They hid in the secret annex for more than two years starting in 1942. Miep Gies, Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler and Bep Voskuijl were four helpers at the Frank family house. While they were in hiding the helpers would talk to the men, women, and children.

The CaptureEverybody that was in the hiding with

the Frank family all got captured. On Saturday September 2, 1944, 1019 peoples named were called to go to Camp Auschwitz. 8 of the 1019 names were the 8 people that hid in the secret annex. Then in 1945 Anne and her sister were moved to Bergen-Belsen.

The diaryAnne received her diary on her 13th birthday.

She named her diary Kitty. The diary is important because she writes everything that happens in it. She also practices her writing in it. Anne intended to have her diary published one day because she wants to be a writer. After the holocaust Anne Frank’s father published her diary on June 25, 1947. Anne Frank’s diary has been published in 28 languages and over 31 million copies have been sold.

pictures I was very disgusted. I could not believe what I was seeing with my eyes. I was felling so sad for them and what they went through. I could never imagine. From looking at all the holocaust pictures people can tell that they did not have colored cameras back then because all of the pictures were in black and white.

Tale of a sprinter , in the Winter of 1938THE PAST -

I am an athlete from Berlin,my feet are fast and swift.I can run faster than anyone!Truly, this is the Lord's gift!

Any race I participate in,I always come in first,for I tell myself, "I HAVE to win";it is like a great thirst.

Even if someone, somehow passes me,I put on an extra burst of speedand run past him, leaving him behind;thus, I take the lead.

I once thought, "If I keep running this way,I might be in the Olympics, some day..."

THE PRESENT -

But now the year is nineteen-thirty-eightAnd for my dreams, it's just too late.

My running days are all gone,I'm not going to see tomorrow's dawn.

Yes, it is truethat I can run very fast;But it is also truethat I am a Jew...There's no running, from the Holocaust.

Poetry answers1. The name of the is Tale of a sprinter, in the winter of 1938 by

Sudeep Pagedar.2. This poem struck me because it was expressing how the

person talking was trying so hard to get away from the holocaust, but as hard as they tried he/she would not be able to. Also because they compared it to running, and I am a fast runner.

3. I imagined a guy/girl trying to run as fast as they could, but how hard they tried they would get no where. I felt sad while reading the poem for the person trying to get away from the holocaust because they couldn’t get away from the torture.

4. The most moving line is “There's no running, from the Holocaust.”

5. My overall reaction was sad that the person could not get away from the holocaust.

GenocideGenocide means the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. The Rwandan genocide began in 1994. it was where men would rape girls, and if they refused then they would be killed. Most of the girls that were rapped would catch HIV and would die. The genocide in Sudan was very similar. Young girls, as young as seven, would be raped in front of their families to destroy the dignity of their people.
