Drydocks World signed an Agreement with Malta Oil & Gas Ltd. for building two unique new jack-up drilling rigs based on Gusto MSC CJ54-X135-A design. The Agreement was signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group by His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World and Mr. Paul Robert Thomson of Malta Oil & Gas Ltd..

The Unit has dimensions of 76m x 76m and leg length 180.6m and is intended for operation in water depths up to 450 ft. It consists of a triangular shaped hull with three open truss legs, rack and pinion type elevating systems and leg-to-hull xation systems. The rig will be capable of drilling HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) wells. It is equipped with a permanent accommodation for 150 persons, a heli-deck suitable for the use of a S61N or S92 helicopter and a retractable X-Y type cantilever carrying the drilling derrick.

Drydocks World is undertaking a strategic development in its rig business from repair & refurbishment and rehabilitation to new building. The company is taking advantage of the presence of a highly-experienced management team and the ready availability of a strong dedicated engineering team to implement changes to original basic design, which holds the key to successful delivery. In addition, the Operational Excellence cycle is adhered to at all levels of production and the rig will be constructed in accordance to the cycle. Drydocks World and Dubai Maritime City Group participated in Sea Japan conference and exhibition from April 9-11, 2014 at the Tokyo Big Sight East Hall 1&2. The Japanese market is a very important market for the Group and participation is aimed at reinforcing its reach within this market and to providing clients with an update on services and new projects being undertaken. This year Sea Japan focused on issues relating to environmental protection, advanced ocean technology, oshore exploration and maritime security. Prototypes and production examples for low-energy and environmentally friendly vessels received major attention. This is an area where the Group has undertaken some pioneering work at the global level and has manufactured a range of specialized ships, including seismic survey vessels for research to identify the best possible subsea areas to drill for oil. These vessels have the ‘green passport’ for energy, eciency and environment management. These are some of the most multi-functional oshore support vessels and generate more progress in the growth of the oil and gas industry all over the world than any other type of ships. These vessels have broken the world bollard pull record by an AHTS, at 402.4T, surpassing the previous record of 397T.

As part of this exhibition and conference, His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman & Group CEO of Drydocks World & Dubai Maritime City addressed the Sea Japan Conference on the subject of “The Big Picture - Transformation of Business in the Middle East.”

The show is a major draw among the Japanese shipping fraternity and provided a unique opportunity to network with people from various sections of the industry, like suppliers and manufacturers while providing a forum to meet existing and frequent clients and to strengthen relationships. Major vessel owners and management companies have utilized the shipyard’s facilities in the past and continue to be repeat customers. This list of customers from this very important market segment continues to grow.

Drydocks World and Maritime World participated in WETEX 2014, which was held under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance of the UAE and President of DEWA, at Dubai World Trade Centre on April 14-16, 2014. Drydocks World is the recipient of the Emirates Energy Award 2013 and RTA Sustainability Award and is re-certied to ISO 140001 by LRQA. It is an active supporter of DEWA’s Earth Hour initiative that is aimed at promoting messages related to sustainability, environmental awareness, and eco-friendly practices to conserve electricity and water consumption and minimize the impact on the environment. The Environment Management System at Drydocks World is setup to continually reduce the environmental impact in all areas. Several measures have been taken to reduce environmental impact and to recycle wherever possible. Measures such as the designing, fabrication and installation of a simple wastewater ltration system to capture pollutants from hydro-blasting operations in the dock bottom, recycling of used abrasive grit at the local cement factory hence reducing the waste to landll and modication of existing containers to reduce the impact of spills help in reducing pollution and managing the environment. Further the company is creating a global impact with world-leading projects that have contributed to environmental sustainability by advocating the use of environment friendly and sustainable technology such as NuFlow’s unique pipe rehabilitation solutions for global marine vessels and oshore construction and onshore facilities. These non-intrusive and non-destructive processes are quicker, safer, less disruptive and more cost-eective for ships. Technical experts from Drydocks World departments such as Infrastructure Maintenance & Development Department and Procurement were available at the stand to guide visitors on the projects and services oered at the facility.
